Port Magpies - Greatest club in Aust ?

In the paper yesterday it said that Port will declare itself the greatest club in Australian Football at a dinner and will name 22 players as the greatest team of the greatest club in Australia. Pretty interesting but its hard to argue with the fact if you look at their history.

It claims the Port Adelaide football club and their 33 premierships that set their path into the AFL...

The Port Adelaide Magpies Football club are honouring Port Adelaide Football clubs greatest team of the greatest club....

It is about Port Adelaide Football Club...now in the AFL...

I would have thought just about any AFL/VFL club would have had the success of Port Adelaide in the SANFL. If they win heaps of flags in the AFL, they will be the greatest. At the moment the greatest are Carlton and Essendon. The most premierships in the best league of all.

I would like to see the best Port side against the best Carlton, Essendon, Richmond side for example. To qualify I think the players should have played at least a couple of seasons for the clubs. Maybe one day they can play the game in heaven and I'll get to se it.

I read today that they were having trouble deciding on their best CHF. THree of the guys I didn't see play, and then Darren Smith. It's hard to leave out anyone who was part of one of their best eras 79-80 but it's happened in the case of this position anyway. While Smith had his critics he has the medals. As for whether they are the greatest, the record speaks for itself.

Who cares! I wish people at Port Adelaide would decide who is who and what is what. One minute they go on about only being around for 5 minutes and if they get flogged in the AFL then its only because they don't have any tradition then when the have a great win its because of the Port Adelaide tradition thats been around for 120 odd years. One word to describe it, CONVENIENCE. They dribble on something cronic. Port Adelaide Football Club has won 34 premierships and the Port Adelaide Magpies have won only two (1998 and 1999). Lets show some consistency, you can't have it both ways. They are separate legal entities and if you can't understand those facts then one is a dead set w***er...

so easty how do u measure success? as the saying goes your only as good as the team u are against port is the equvilent to carlton in the vfl had the money to have the best players available.success is measured by who u are up against and while we cant deny port has a great record and history u also cant deny carlton and essendon that those 2 sides would easly have better claims to being the most successful sides in aussie rules history due to the very fact the standard they have come up against compared to the safnl which for many many years has been dominated by the one club.

So Victorians aren't allowed to comment on a South Australian team [Port Adelaide],yet you can comment on a Victorian team [Esssssendon].
