VFL Game Day Port Melbourne vs Essendon, North Port Oval, Saturday 04/08/18 @ 2 PM

We enter the last month of the VFL with a lo jam of teams vying for a top 8 spot, only 8 points separating 4th from 10th. Port and Essendon are part of that log jam, currently situated at 7th and 8th respectively, with this match providing the pair a big chance to sure up a spot inside the top 8. Neither side is going great guns at this point, the Borough only winning 2 of their last 5 whilst Essendon have lost their last 4 games. The two sides have been pretty even over the last few years, splitting their last 6 matches.

Port's most recent game was a comfortable 5 goal win over cellar dwellers Coburg after a slow start by the Borough, only kicking 1 goal to 3 in the first. Tom O'Sullivan and Mack Rivett were very damaging in the middle of the park, having 34 and 29 disposals respectively whilst Robin Nahas dominated inside 50, kicking 6 goals from his 10 shots on goal.

Essendon had a good first half against Collingwood but fell away with the VFL list depth of the Dons just not there this year, losing by 5 goals in the end. Sam Draper was a big positive in the ruck, having 41 hit outs whilst also collecting 16 possessions, with young midfield duo Kobe Mutch and Trent Mynott collecting 24 and 25 disposals respectively.

Another big * you to the VFL for scheduling the FIFTH clash with the AFL side. Not even the TV game either. Possible side:

Ridley - Hartley - Sheahan
Heppell - BZT - Hocking
Long - Laverde - Merrett
Houlahan - Stewart - Boyse
Younan - Leuenberger - Green
Draper - Clarke - Mutch
Hind - Mynott - Colyer - Lavender
Lazzaro

16/7 split AFL/VFL helps, but we seriously need to sort out our VFL list as well.

Why can’t they switch this to 11am start so we can watch both?
It would have to be a 10:30 start. Or better yet, schedule it for the Sunday where they only have one game on!

Well scheduled again.
Yep.

Tom O’Sullivan will be debuting as the 23rd man for Port Melbourne.

A solid inside mid to look out for in the future

Speaking of kids to look out for, for the future. foj1 boy who he has drafted the past two years is playing as 23rd man for Weribee this week against Coburg.

I think you'll find that Tom O'Sullivan has played around 75 games for Port.

Went down by a goal and Ridley finished the game in a moonboot.

The whole thing has gone to hell

Good to see Laverde racking up 28. Hopefully he can build up a midfield tank to slot in alongside Langers next yr.

Any idea why Stewart didn't play?
