three in a row. i havent looked at every teams recent records but i tnink consecutive wins go something like

15 essendon
9 carlton
3 POWER

is thgis right

does this mean we are now the third best team in the comp

POWER TO WIN

no you are not the 3rd best team in the comp- you are the 2nd worst.

HOWEVER- I think the coming game vs the bombers is a danger game for us. We arnt playing well at all, Port is playing great, its IN adelaide- and we are missing hird.

If I can get a good price ill be laying some $$$$ on Port, to console myself if we DO lose.

We need to get back into form FAST !!!!!

If you win every match from now on you will be,,,,,,,,,,, still nowhere.

Might be a blessing in disguise losing Hirdy for a couple of weeks. By that I meen guys like Mercs, Misiti, Lloyd and Lucas will have to step up a bit and not watch Hirdy do all the match winning stuff. It won't do Hirdy any harm having a breather anyway.

Cheers

BOMBER BLITZ IN 2000!

sorry to turn your port thread into a bomber one but we tend to do that alot.hehehe.

Ricey- actually ive changed my mind- i dont think we need to find form fast- it might be good to have a bit of a lull before the "August Storm". Thats when we can kick back into gear and start whoopin some serious arse.......well thats when it will actually matter anyway.

I agree Arch, it's much better to be playing slightly below your best now, then in 2 months time.This is what occurred last year; we were killing everyone then struggled to beat Melbourne in round 22, put in a laclustre performance against Sydney, which meant we faced Carlton having not played a good game of football in a month. As a result we weren't ready for an important game, played poorly and missed a place in the grand final.

You don't win premierships in June!!!!

lacklustre performance against sydney ???
we beat 'em by 60 odd and Mercs played like a man possessed.

He went missing two weeks later though- maybe it was the week off which buggered our form up ?????

Arch,

Considering the way we started that game (Q. Final v Sydney) and the way Sydney performed, the winning margin should have been well in excess of 69 points. Our performance after 1/4 time was pretty slack and reminded me a little of the North game a few weeks ago. We really should have won by more then we did on that occassion as well!!!I won't labour the point, I just think we were going stale toward the end of last year and it reminded me of how we are playing at the moment. Having said that, I wouldn't go as far as betting on a Port Adelaide upset. We should win quite comfortably, even without Hird. Port's recent form in comparison to Sydney and WCE should guard against slackness...I hope!!!

I don't think we were fading towards the end of last year at all.

We entered the prelim with 8 straight wins.

We had a good win over the Dees in Round 22. They beat us in Round 8, remember. And, because it was Round 22, it was their Grand Final.

I was hoping Melbourne would be "fired-up", as they were playing their last game of the season, and they were. I was hoping for a good hit out, and we got it. We needed a good close hard fought game before the finals.

You can talk all you want about the game against Sydney, but a 69 point win is good form. You can't really talk that much about the last three quarters, because the game was over.

It's a bit like talking about the last three quarters of our match against the Roos this year.

And anyway, an interesting stat that I've mentioned on here before that you might be interested to know is this :

In Round 16 1999, we beat Carlton by 76 points. We had 31 scoring shots to 25 (23.8 to 9.16)

In the preliminary final, we had 33 scoring shots to 24 !!!!! That's right, we had MORE scoring shots than we did when we beat them by 76 points. And amazingly, we kept them to one less scoring shot.

I don't really think a one-point loss is bad form.

Fair point Dan, I guess i would've preferred a "tougher" match against the swans, then the walk-over we received.. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.
On the prelim. final, I know a few people who've made the same point you made and you're right, 33 scoring shots to 24 doesn't suggest they chocked, as many have termed it.Having said that, they had Carlton on the ropes in the third quarter and didn't bury them due to poor kicking. That shouldn't have happened and Sheedy said as much himself.
J2!!

I hate to admitt it but Port have done us a favour in the last 2 weeks, beating west Coast & Richmond. In fact, I almost wanted them to win against west coast. ALMOST.

The good thing is now they wont get the 1st draft pick & I think they should have won enough games to miss out on a priority pick as well. That should make it even harder for them to recruit some talent.

why do you guys always spoil the other threads with your essendon chest beating

i really just posted this to get the topic back to the top and keep it up there haha

Sorry Dan, but round 8 was a victory to the mighty saints against the bombers.

I think we have only had about 4 wins since that day, so I remember it like yesterday.

If you played them round 22, I would expect the match against Melbourne would have been in round 7.

Sorry Sainter.

Can't believe I got that wrong. I'm ashamed at myself. I HATE being corrected with stats. I normally pride myslef on getting the stats and figures right.

Oh well, thanks anyway.

Arch you wonder idiot (hehe) what are you talking about the only regular eagles fans on this site are EF Go Eagles and myself theres probably more but i cant remember there names cos guess what there not regular enough for me to remember idiot.

2000 the year of the eagle

By the way on the topic good for port looks like there picking up some form good luck for this weekend and for the rest of the season, but you guys couldnt have picked a worse time to beat us heh

jod, your written comprehension skills are abysmal. I think I've deciphered what you mean, but surely you mean couldn't have picked a *better* time for Port to beat the Eagles - on a number of levels:

Eagles decimated by injury;

First ever win over the Eagles;

Brayden Lyle's 100th, against his old club;

Coming from 38 points down, in the wet, away from home;

To give their fans something to cheer about in an otherwise abysmal season.

PS - it would be handy if there was some way of flagging a topic which has gone way off track. Maybe if the board showed who was the last person to post to a topic instead of the topic starter - that way you could just avoid any topics with 'certain people' as the most recent poster

Gravedanger your starting to remind me of Arch, you obviously have an IQ of about 10.
I dont know what your trying to decipher but you've got it all wrong.
Port couldnt have picked a WORSE time to beat us you idiot, we needed that win badly going into games against the dons and roos, that game was detrimental to us making the 8 and if we would have won we would still be in the top 8 so i dont know what your blabbering on about but its obviously nothing intelligent. I get the feeling you think im a Power fan but i thought my sign off would give you a hint that im actually an Eagles fan.

Grave Danger was the nickname of a sniper who played for Port Magpies in the late 70's early 80's named Dave Granger.

Played CHF & had some talent but is mostly remembered as a thug. King of the king hit.

Has had some recent publicity due to a drug bust & been on radio saying the coach told him to go out & thump people.

i am not proud of david granger. i was a kid when he was thumping people. i hated him even though he played for my team. i am glad he has come a croper in later years.
