Mod. Notice Port Reserves Structure Q&A

Remove this Banner Ad

Keith Thomas has kindly agreed to answer questions from our posters on the new Port Adelaide reserves structure in the SANFL.

So use this thread to post your questions. I can't guarantee every question will be answered but fire away, you never know your luck in the big city or even Adelaide.

Don't worry if you repeat other poster's questions as the most frequently asked may well get priority.

A big thank you to Andrew Fuss for teeing up this opportunity with Cas Keith. :thumbsu:

Keith, how do you always present yourself so casually chic?

Keith, are you single

Keith what's ur mobile number

Okay being serious for a minute

Having experienced the frustration in dealing with the SANFL clubs over the reserves debate, do you expect the stadium deal to be just as frustrating?

Will the juniors in 2015 play for the club in a competition. Example SAAFL? WIll they also play for SANFL clubs or will they be exclusively 'ours'.

Is the annual review of the SANFL reserves structure a genuine two-way discussion, or is it the SANFL's prerogative to change the deal?

If the AFL decides to invest in its own national reserves competition, will Port Adelaide be tied to the SANFL deal for any period of time?

What are the chances of organising Magpie home games when the Power plays away?

Are the academy players completely banned from playing in the league side, or will exceptions be made in the case of extraordinary injury numbers?

Can older Power listed players play in the academy side if needed (such as needing restricted gametime after injury, or even just on form)?

The answer for this one is yes.

How much does it frustrate you that a minuscule minority of 'Magpies only diehards' and their contrarian views seem to monopolise the media's vox pops on this entire issue?

Because it gives us the shits.

What specifically are Ken Wood's concerns regarding our new Reserves structures?

What are the AFL's requirements regarding restrictions with working with under 18's? Is Port Adelaide able to effectively run junior academies whilst adhering to these requirements?

How do you see the Magpies attracting and retaining the best talent, given our 18-22's will be playing in the SANFL Reserves for at least a year before any of them can join the top up list? Do you think players might be more likely to join other SANFL clubs in the hope playing seniors with more exposure to AFL scouts and potentially higher salary?

I understand the need for the academies to retain the community links that are being lost with the dissolution of the magpies zones but do these academies offer any advantage to our AFL side? Aren't we just spending time and resources developing kids that will go through the draft like other AFL potentials while the likes of the Crows don't have this expenditure?

Additionally, what are the details behind how the father/son academy will work?

It's fine though, because they will find out pretty quickly that no one gives a s**t.

Do we have the same basis as the camries with respect to leadership player, an over 28yo player who been on the powers list will be captain?

is our SAAFL team based as an elite training group for other SANFL clubs colts/reserves draftee hopefuls, or the alternative where this will be filled with players who most likely are not up to standard of AFL or SANFL teams? in short will these players be able to train with our u18's and play elsewhere.?

do you personally believe the playing to the line clause re: SANFL doctor, will hinder the clubs managing of players in any way.

Ken Woods concerns I would have thought were irrelevant under current drafting rules I would have thought. To be drafted from SA you need to play a game in the SANFL cometition. Based on this, kids playing in the development squads and not playing SANFL cant be drafted unless they are nominated by two clubs. (IIRC)
It is ironic that non listed players are not allowed to train with clubs (other than pre-season) yet the AFL send AIS kids to AFL clubs to train with them.

Do the concerns have something to do with us thinking about fielding underage teams in the SAAFL?

If the Magpie League team on a given week has 18 AFL players available which means only 4 Magpie players are required, where do the other 11 Magpie players play?

If they feed down to the Magpie Reserves team, where do the Academy players play?

What is the feeling amongst our players and coaching group on the matter?
Will McGregor be retained as a coach and move into a dual Power Assistant/Reserves Coach role?

Dear Casual KT,

With this re-unification of Power and Magpies (where everyone at Port Adelaide plays for Port Adelaide), will we see a new logo that signifies this reunification? I suggest something like the following that I've done:

Lots of good elements to it. The design in the inner circle is from Black Diamond Corner, which is uniquely Port Adelaide...

Or even one of these that I've done:
