Can any of the Port supporters out there PLEASE elaborate for me, on why they constantly carry on and on about the tradition and history of the club. The club is only a couple of years old for christ's sake!! Get it into you - YOU ARE NOT THE PORT ADELAIDE MAGPIES! Yes, the Port Adelaide Magpies have a ton of tradition and history, but the Power do not. They are two
completely different clubs. The Power were established as a stand alone club and nobody from the Magpies has anything to do with the Power.

Please leave the tradition of the Magpies in the trash, it has absolutely nothing to do with your club!!

What's the matter David - didn't you like the responses you got in the footy news group and thought you'd troll your daft views here instead?

Yes, the SANFL decreed that the Power and Magpies have to be separate entites, but only a fool would suggest that there is no connection between the two. Port simply would not be in the AFL if it weren't for the total dominance of the SANFL by the Magpies.

The Power's smooth and successful introduction to the AFL is due in large part to the 127 year foundation of the Port Adelaide Football Club. Compare that with the Fremantle Dockers, who with no foundation are still flailing about after 5 years and falling further behind Port Adelaide every year.

Yeah, I totally agree with you David. I can't stand many(not all) port power so called supporters going on about their so called tradition. They have only been going for three years and are just a composite team like the Crows. All that went into the AFL from port adelaide was the name, no tradition, no history, NOTHING. I also can't stand those port magpies supporters who wear power scarfes and jumpers etc to their games - get your damn games right!!

That's just the point, John - Power and Magpies supporters are the same people. That's what makes a *CLUB*. Crows supporters, if they bother to follow a SANFL club any more, are scattered among the other 8 teams, but Power supporters all support the Magpies. Why do you think that is, hmmm?

Port does have some sort of tradition.

The same filthy, dirty, sniping underhand tactics displayed by prettyboy Wanganeen every time he plays for them.

NO wonder they wanted him as captain.

The biggest prettyboy that likes hitting people when they aren't looking to lead an entire team of prettyboys that like hitting people when they aren't looking.

Pity none of them like it when the ball is around.

More crap from power mad!!!! Power supporters are NOT all magpie supporters, and not all magpie supporters are power supporters. I know many magpie supporters who absolutely HATE HATE HATE HATE the power. They infact support a more successful AFL team like ADELAIDE.

Ha ha, despite the Crows having won 2 flags, all the talk is about Port Adelaide. Face it suckers, Port Adelaide has re-assumed its rightful place as the leading football club in South Australia. Adelaide Crows? - "The Rest of South Australia" more like...

A message for mtffafl - I bet you're what, an Essendon supporter, who is dirty about Gavin going and whose opted to love James Hird instead or a Hawthorn supporter with your darling Shane Crawford and his punching up antics behind play or what, a North Melbourne supporter who worships Wayne Carey????

We must face that in these ages and as we enter the 21st century AFL football has changed and we've seen new tactics such as those of punching behind play and other sly acts but every team does this, including Port Power, I must admit, I feel disappointed when they do, but I think it is unfair and stupid to bring that up when the team that you follow does it too.

I do support Port Power, but choose to follow a different team in the SANFL but I agree that the foundations of the Port Adelaide Football Club origintated from the History of the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club (nee PAFC). You may disagree but I have the right to have my opinion and I am certain that without the PA Magpies and their successful finals history and high quality players that we wouldn't be seing Port Power in the AFL today.

Actually, I do not support any of those clubs, and agree with your views on those players.

There is nothing I hate more than pretty boys like Crawford and Wanganeen who do none of the hard work, and are really 'tough' when people aren't looking. Wayne Carey is similar in that regard.

But at least Crawford has some talent, unlike Wanganeen.

I actually support Collingwood, and am sure we have similar players (Shane Watson was like it a few years ago, except he occassionally got hit back as well, unlike Ricciuto and Worsfold etc. [2 non-footballers that are a disgrace to humanity])

I think it is a blight on the game, and I think the game would be better without the Crawfords, Careys, Watsons and more importantly Worsfolds, Ricciutos and Wanganeens of this world.

He is an absolute disgrace.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time responding to MTFFAFL's latest garbage, but when people criticise Port Adelaide I will always respond.

Wanganeen no talent? Mick Malthouse would have him in the Collingwood team ahead of ANY of their current players - Buckley included.

You are such a clueless fool you deserve to support the hopeless Collingwood Pies (I refuse to call them Magpies because they are a disgrace to the Magpie tradition, which is now only sustained by Port Adelaide).

Enjoy your back to back wooden spoons this season, loser boy!

I think the next poll will be a straight Yes/No - Will Collingwood "win" consecutive wooden spoons?

(For the uninitiated, a wooden spoon is last place.)

I'm going to confess now that I don't know the origin of the term Wooden Spoon - I'll open a new topic for that so please reply there.

John Worsfold is not an animal.
He DID have a certain 'skill' when it came to the shirt-front, (whether you like it or not, a legal part of our game), but very rarely used it on players who weren't using the same tactics on his more slight teamates. Remember Ablett's STRIKING of Pyke in the 92 GF?
I don't think you can compare him to say, Byron Pickett, who seems to be able to do nothing other than taking opposition players out.
I don't know where you come from, but John Worsfold has done more for footy in WA, than anyone in a really long time. He not only brought us home two flags and 10 consecutive finals series, but assisted in raising the profile and proffessional nature of the club. They are undoubtedly one of the best-run, most financially sound and consistantly successful sporting clubs in Australia, and a lot of that is due to our 'Animal' of a captain.

Whatever we may think of the shirtfront, (or whatever Pickett does), a physical pressence is necessary for the protection of star players. (Crawford, Cousins, Voss, Simon Black, and many others). Their careers are cut short simply because they play well, and therefore attract rough treatment.

Port's tradition is finals and premierships. When Port win the AFL premiership, just count the number of times the commentators say "this proud old club", "the tradition continues", "inevitable", "yet another flag for Port Adelaide", "Australia's most successful football club", etc, etc, etc...

So like New Zealand you find a second rate competition and dominate it and consider yourselfs champions

Irrelevant nonsense. Port didn't "find themselves a second rate competition" - the Port Adelaide legend started in South Australia and is now spreading across the land.

BTW - have you noticed that this Port Adelaide topic is the most popular one? Everyone's talking about Port!

The Port Adelaide Magpies are nothing more than a local footy club playing in a second-rate competition in a second-rate city. Most successful club in Australian Football? You have to play at the ultimate level to be considered the best.

I think the Port Adelaide Power have been a big disapointment since they came into the AFL. For all their huffing and puffing they can't even fill a 40,000 capacity stadium. The only time it's full is against the Crows.

So you go back and play in the kiddies pool with the Bulldogs and the Dockers, Power Mad, and don't come back until you're ready to play with the big boys of the AFL.

You really are a loser mate.

You know nothing about football do you? The SANFL is only "second rate" in being the second strongest competition in Australia behind the AFL. Last year the SANFL side comfortably beat the VFL at the MCG. And the Port Adelaide Magpies dominated the SANFL to the extent of winning seven premierships in the 1990's.

Port's tradition of success EARNED them promotion to the AFL. No other existing club has ever done this.

If you think Port Power have been a "big disappointment" you are a fool. So what if they don't fill Football Park? Don't forget that the Crows draw their support from the eight other SANFL clubs, but Port stands alone. That's why I like to call the Crows 'The Rest of South Australia'. And Port Adelaide has more members than all the Victorian teams and West Coast.

People who know a bit about football have watched in admiration as Port Power built a young team which is now starting to blossom, and as they develop together will become an AFL Powerhouse. Pun intended!

Actually, 8 clubs earned promotion back in 1897.

Another 3 did so in 1925.

As I said, go away little boy, come back when your little club has actually done something.

Ha ha, those clubs joined the Melbourne suburban competition, not a *national* competition.

Half the current Victorian AFL clubs would have had no hope of joining the AFL the way Port did if they weren't already part of the old VFL. They only survived as long they did thanks to the licence fees paid by non-Victorian clubs.

Port has already achieved something by being the first club promoted to the AFL and if you know anything about football you know that they are going to be one of the strongest AFL clubs real soon.

Thanks for keeping this topic going strong kids - we're on page two now, another *first* for Port! Maybe one day you could start a topic about your teams (whoever they might be) and we could see whether anyone bothers responding.

*lol* Get 'em Power Mad

I have to say that many people who go for the Power are not supporters of the Magpies - they are supporters of other SANFL clubs who do not like the Crows, and so follow Port.

Personally I'd rate Port my third fave team. I'm not going to raise the stakes by nominating my first two.

I thought I told you not to come back until Port Powder was a legitimate footy club.

West Coast have proven it.

Adelaide have proven it.

Win a premiership and I'll respect your opinions on greatness.

All you've proven is that you can't even fill a 40,000 seat stadium.

Great clubs are built on great things and the sad reality is that the Powder is on the same rung as University.

I won't be back until Sunday evening when we could resume this conversation, however, we all know you have nothing more to say.

I've always got plenty to say about *my* team - how about you and yours?

You remind me of all those supporters of the other SANFL clubs who love to bag Port in the years they don't win the flag (seldom as that is these days!), but who scuttle back under their rocks the rest of the time. Have fun while you can, because soon the rest of Australia with Port Power will see what the rest of South Australia has had to endure with the Port Magpies.

You say that you have more membership than any VIC Club, or West Coast! What about Adelaide for example? And um, you forget one thing Victoria has 11 teams, thats right 11 teams!!! Hmm, Collingwood managed to get over 32,000 members last year, now imagine, if Victoria only had 2 clubs. I think Collingwood would have something like 100,000 members at least, and imagine the money they would be raking in(hmmmm). Get off your high horse mate, you havent WON a premiership in the AFL yet maybe never will, and you still have a lot of catching up to do to be the BEST AFL team! You are right in saying you are the best SANFL team bat we got give a rats ass about your petty Local competition. I mean you south Australian, thay alone makes me laugh!!!!!
