Marshall and Georgiades were outmarked point blank by the same opponent on three occasions after we won clear centre square ball. They have had chances and are not hunting or flying at the ball but feeling for body contact and playing reactively. It’s a defender’s mindset to forward play and it goes against everything they should be taught to do.

Their goals are kicked by waves of players running free to goal with space all around them or one opponent to beat. We have a lot of dumb footballers. How else can you explain the way we enter our forwardline, where our forwardline players position themselves.

And they are poorly coached.

Look at our 2004 team it had hard footballers and hard and smart footballers. Look how many are AfL coaches, AFL assistants, state league ooaches and in footy administration. How many of these 22 players and another 20 who have played the last few years will end up repeating that?

Who are they leading for?

When a player just grabs the ball and boots it into your forward line how do you provide a lead? Unless you’re Nostradamus or just plain lucky that’s gonna be pretty hard before we even ask where they’re leading when more than 3/4s of both teams are inside one square 50 patch of turf.
