No excuses- a somewhat depleted Collingwood against a Port side with a (now) moderate injury list.
We welcome back the holy trinity. They have at least 2 debutants. In fact, their team sheet reads like the role call at the witness protection program.
When I say no excuses, I mean no excuses for not crushing them. A dry deck. An impressive array of tall options at both ends of the ground. The holy trinity gives us some run and class. Wines is in beast mode and although I don’t know half their team (isn’t Ruscoe a big serving US tennis player from the 1980s?), the Wobbles have no one to stop him.
Motivation cannot be an issue. Today we play for Travis Boak
- a legitimate club legend. We owe him big time for sticking with us even after Chris Scott
, Joel Selwood and the Geelong Big Band secretly paraded down Rundle Mall looking to kidnap Travis. Not only did Travis stay, today he racks up 300 games and joins Kane Cornes
as club AFL games record holder- only about 150 games to go to get the club games record.
If we cannot honour Travis with a win in style today, a Royal Commission should be called.
We are superior in all facets of the game except ruck and we are more than capable there too. Who would you rather have up forward? Mihocek or Dixon. On the wing? Amon or Daicos. In the guts? Wines or AdamS. Down back? Aliir or Roughead.
The result is vital but not enough. We are running out of time to find top gear. This is a perfect chance to beat up on a second class opposition. That won’t silence the critics that will trot out our record against the contenders, but we will know. We need to come out of this game with comments like:
”That’s more like it” and
”Did Travis proud” and not
”Did enough”.
Today, enough is not enough.
The push to a flag starts here.
