We don't have a bona fide forward on the list other than a damaged dixon

We don't have a pacey small crumbing forward at the feet of our talls

We have a slow plodding midfield with terrible foot skills

Whose slow plodding in midfield ?

Hardly comparable against SANFL opponents vs AFL

It was a SANFL side against another SANFL side.

Still, isn't our 1997 season an evidence against your argument? Our SANFL players hold their own against the AFL opposition then, and it was almost two decades later.

We were playing a 10 man backline when Bass was in charg
Slopball does not equal a good defense. We were putrid, just because we turned every game into absolute low scoring defensive bores to artificially enhance a few numbers. Doesn't mean we had a good defense. We need a clean out.. Bass should be first out the door.

We do have crumbling pacey small forwards, Butters and woodcock. Get them both in the team playing together

Mike Sheehan has unloaded on Big Charlie labeling him, 'the most over rated player in the AFL'. Sheehan has produced Charlie's goal return to support his argument and made the point that Charlie has never kicked 50 goals in a season.

Understandably team mate Robbie Gray has leapt to Charlie's defence citing injury and personal issues as mitigating factors in Charlie's fall from grace. Unfortunately Sheehan is not just talking about 2019 but Charlie's past three seasons.

To be honest I am not sure where I stand on this because to me Charlie Dixon has been a disappointment considering the price we paid to get him to Alberton and the reputed $700k per annum we are forking out. I take Robbie Gray's point that Charlie has had some set backs and personal issues but he has also had plenty of time, specialist support and a healthy pay packet to help him during his time in crisis. Many young people do not have those advantages.

That said I do not want to kick a guy when he is down and hopefully Big Charlie can turn it around next year. If he can't we look at alternatives. Maybe starting to get some of those alternatives into place in the remainder of 2019 should be a priority?

Sheehan also has a dig at Taylor Walker although his comments were not as pointed.

If Charlie had the kind of delivery that, for arguments sake, Riewoldt, Cox or Cameron gets, we wouldn't be having this discussion. It's so disheartening seeing him contest and win the ball on centre wing and have absolutely no disposal options.

Dropping him just cements the view that we just don't have a place in our team for a pure forward. The six goals a game we score these days is a consequence of that.

* Mike Sheehan. He's borderline illiterate, innumerate, and a below average journo that everyone in the football media treats like a Make a Wish kid because they feel bad for teasing him about having a tongue that's too big for his mouth.

Sheehan might be right but any journo taking potshots at our players and not at the coach has entirely lost the plot

Poor, put-upon Ken Hinkley, who keeps drafting/recruiting overrated, disappointing and mentally absent players who can’t or don’t want to perform.

So unlucky.
