Brazil are exempt from criticism in this case - a loss and they finished second.

From about the 70th minute is was obvious IC weren't going to score the 8 goals they needed.

So surely this would encourage Portugal to come out and attack?
Nah - they just stuck every single player except Ronaldo behind the ball - as they do in each and every match in which they play.

They had nothing to lose - win and you finish top - concede and you still finish second.

Apparently the 0-0 was all they wanted. There is no acceptable reason for not pursuing the win. Brazil were passing it around at the back but Portugal had every single player except for Ronaldo behind the ball and Brazil didn't need to win. Kind of hope Spain finish top of their group now. It's all Portugal deserve for that.

Very average team who participate in very average matches.

Last World Cup they threw everyone behind the ball against England for 120 minutes. Even when England went down to 10 they were scared to commit men forward.

This World Cup - threw everybody behind the ball against IC. Conceded possession and were just boring.

The Brazil game.

Many of their qualifiers.

And that 0-0 friendly draw against that former colony of theirs.

They are without a doubt the worst national team to watch in the world. Please. Whoever is drawn against Portugal in the next round please knock the boring wankers out.

Was a shame that Bosnia couldn't knock them over in their playoff games. I think a lot of people would have enjoyed watching Bosnia play. Me in particular, because I have a vested interest in Pjanic and Dzeko.

Yep. Bosnia are a talented young side. But mate - lets be honest most sides struggle against any team who defends with nearly every player behind the ball. It's a weak tactic - and something the less talented teams do. Aren't Portugal meant to be good?

You're new to following football, aren't you?

I would say in every single position the Spanish have someone better than the Portugese. Ronaldo basically plays up front for Portugal and in that position he's inferior to Villa and Torres. As I say, in every single position the Spanish have someone better.

Maybe Iniesta could do himself up with tatts and become shit. Then we could call him the next Raul Mereles - ey?

Portugal look like they may have a relatively easier route to the semi-final.

Also find it funny that Portgual in made it further in the last world cup than Spain have in their entire history. Which would you rather AC?

What does last WC have to do with this one?

And the constant from last time was obviously that Portugal were still a very boring team. They are terrible to watch, you have to admit that?

Watch some of their qualifiers, or even meaningless friendlies. Nothing changes.

If Spain finish top - as expected Portugal are ****ed and their downfall will be enjoyable.

It doesn't have anything to do with this wc directly, but I'm just saying that if Spain don't finish top, then there's a very good chance that Portugal will make it through to the semis for two cups in a row, all whilst playing this 'boring' style of football. Unless Spain make the semis this wc, that's twice in a row Portugal advances to a round that Spain has never made in its history. I don't think Portuguese fans would particularly care about Spanish sledges should this eventuate.

I don't mind Portugal myself, but as for Portugal vs Spain I don't really care. Would probably prefer Portugal to go through, then again would probaby prefer Spain to go through as it's a higher chance of knocking out Brazil.

Both teams went hard in the first half and picked up way too many yellows from the super eager ref.

Both teams needed to put the game on ice.

It was frozen solid well before 90mins was up.

Portugal are just keeping their powder dry for the Round of 16.

They've already played some of the best football in this tournament against North Korea so I don't know how you can say they're a disgrace.

I'm still backing Portugal to win it.:thumbsu:

Riewoldt has more chance of playing a dive-free game than portugal do winning the WC.

Yeah, its not like its hard to look like the best team out there against North Korea.

New Zealand would have looked an attacking master-class against North Korea.

Good question as even IC smashed Korea. My guess is that this Brazilian team is based on defence rather than attack and it was their first game so they were cautious.
Probably right actually, most teams were more cautious in their first games. The difference is most of them were actually good at being cautious, unlike us.

What were we? No striker, 78969 defense mids and a defensive high line. Overly cautious with a hint of WTF.

15 mins to go..

Swiss score
Chille score

Spain out.
Yep, PK he's right. The situations couldn't be anymore different.

The last thing Spain wanted to do was concede as then they were relying on other results. Namely the Swiss not scoring and in that game both teams had numerous chances near the end as the game was very open. It would've been unbelievably dangerous for Spain to push too many men forwar as conceding an equaliser could've brought about their downfall.

Whereas Portugal needed to concede about 6 goals in 10 minutes to even have a chance of missing out.

Spain did the right thing. As did Chile because if Chile lost by 2 then they were relying on Switzerland not scoring. And as said - Switzerland could've quite easily done that. I don't blame Spain or Chile for the last 10 minutes as the group was still very much open and one goal conceded for either side would've meant their elimination if the Swiss scored.

Completely understandable non-trying. Even if it comprimises the integrity of the game.
