It's a shame Chile have so many players out as with 11 they were the equal of Spain and looked really impressive going forward. No team can afford to miss 2 or 3 crucial first XI players against Brazil. However, I'm sure they'll cause Brazil a few problems.

Brazil vs Portugal

One gave us joga bonito , the very best that the game has to offer, the other gave us the language to express it.

But that must just about have been the untidiest game of soccer I have ever seen in my life.

It reminded me of watching the Socceroos in the 1980s.

It was the complete antithesis of joga bonito .

Another night, more nil-all draws.

This is fast becoming a world cup where 1-0 is viewed as an extremely high scoreline.

Everyone sounds so outraged. What were you expecting? This is typical of the mentality Quieroz has played with all throughout qualifying. Do exactly what you need to in order get the right scoreline and then defend, defend, defend. Oh, and throw in a liberal amount of diving from Deco and Ronaldo.

There's a reason everyone wanted Bosnia to beat them in the playoff. The North Korea game was an anomaly. Portugal hasn't played with attacking flair in years.

Spain and Portugal's best results in a World Cup are semi-finals defeats.
spain has never made the semis in the world cup

made the quarter final four times, twice in the last 20 years

expect them to at least make the semis this time around though

By far my most hated team in the world cup...can't stand the players or the way they play..hope Spain make them look stupid because the world cup will be much better off without Portugal.. And Ronaldo is the most overrated player does nothing good for Portugal and against good teams at international and club level he goes missing

you have to remember that two things. the objest is to get through to the next round and they did that and secondly they dont care whether they were entertaining.

keeping brazil to a 0-0 draw is a good result in anyones book.

THEY WERE THROUGH TO THE SECOND ROUND WIN, LOSE OR DRAW.

With 20 minutes to go it was quite clear they would definitely finish second and there was incentive to win the game as it would've meant avoiding Spain. Losing the match would've changed nothing.

Ronaldo will put two or three goals past Spain and it will be goodnight nurse. Wouldn't be surprised to see Figo make a surprise comeback either just to add the icing on the cake.

Portugal will lift the cup, you heard it here first.:thumbsu:

Italy has done that for years. Diving has been crap all through this WC. Look at the Spain-Chile game.

They have no reason to waste energy when they have an important game coming up. They walked around and had no problems with Brazil.

Ronaldo was walking 95% of the game. Funniest part was the Brazil defender getting it next to him and he turned around around to fix his sock.

So Italy is the baseline for attractive play these days? God help us.

As for simulation, Portugal is very much the gold standard these days. CRonaldo alone just about doubled the tournament count against Cote d'Ivoire. The guy was flopping all over the place, disgraceful - I counted at least four massive embellishments, if not outright dives.

Karma really, they could of gone for the win against Brazil with nothing to lose and they might of played Chile yesterday. They can only blame themselves. They are useless attacking good sides though and they urgently need a top striker to address this.

Scoreless in 3 out of 4 games and surprise surprise, it was only North Korea they could score against.

Spain must not be a good side then because Portugal opened them up and could've had three in the first half.

Spain still couldn't score without an injustice from the linesman. There was no goal so its still another clean sheet from Portugal.

Should've won the match. Spain were there for the taking

Like I said they need a top striker to come through, someone who can convert the chances they create because they havn't had one for a long long time. Its what cost them the Euro 04 final, semifinal in 06 against France and here again today.
