Positive Mindset

Get rid of the Midfielder that's stinking up our whole team, Priddis the Elephant in the Team, and we're 50% there.

Cheers
Not sure you understand the point.
It's attitude we are talking about so bringing the Priddis argument to this thread shows a lack of understanding.
But I guess you can't help yourself.

FFS ... That's coaching. No one doubts that a better coach gets more out of his players than a shit coach.

No doubt some component of that is self belief and that's achieved in different ways with different players. Some get given very simple instructions "mate just focus on these 2 things", strip the game down and make it easier. That may help their performance but it doesn't turn shit into gold.

Melbourne are in the bottom few. They are more competitive, in part, by good coaching which has produced some of the most turgid football seen in recent memory in amongst the odd good game.

None of which proves your assertion that players are all magical beings just waiting to have a master wizard extract their magical essence and carry them to greatness.

The reality us that the grand final will be fought between 2 of the best 2 or 3 teams (injury and luck plays some part). If St Kilda played in the GF with the same team they played yesterday and they played Freo they'd get killed. Because Freo would be up and about and given both teams bring at least 90% of their best "effort" Freo are a 10 goal better side, everytime, because of talent ...

No one doubts you need effort (however you define that) and that ones mental approach is significant. The reason we have "upsets" is usually when one team is off and the other "gets a sniff", as happened yesterday.

But extrapolating from that that we as a club or only where we are because of inability to extract magic from the minds of our players IS new age nonsense and is also ******* stupid.

We lack ability in certain areas. Assuming both sides come ready to play 6-8 sides are demonstrably better than us and would win almost every time. Then 2-4 sides are slightly better than us.

This isn't rocket science ... or magic

To eliminate self belief and confidence as a major part of success is very naive indeed and this is all we are referring to here and good coaching enhances this this belief.
The win by StKilda yesterday was more than just a marginal win or a competitive effort it was a major destruction of a top team in every facet of the game and this win will do more for the young players in the team than all the tanking and top draft picks one could muster.
Let this be a lesson to all those calling for a Tank when the Saints win may have cost them the number one pick and another pick in the 20's as I am sure that they all think it was worth it for their development.

Quick tell Simmo

He hasn't thought about a positive mindest to date. Tell him to flick a switch.

You are missing the point again Tracker. St Kilda are littered with young talented developing players. We are littered with Aeging stars that were passed it along time ago and young players that aren't that good. We have a stale list bought on thickhead Worsfold.

Just shows what happens when the positive thinking of wanting to put one up Ross and the respect they have for Lenny is combined.

Oh yeah, plus Dawson playing on Reiwoldt might have had something to do with it plus gut busting running from pretty much everyone out there for the Saints.

Masten etc should take note that of this match.

Another tangential post Tracker.

Do once try and stay on topic. St Kilda have previously "tanked" by getting rid of a number of club stars for draft picks ...

You support us doing that?

On topic, nowhere did I "eliminate self belief and confidence as a major part of success". You appear a sneaky, devious lying ass at times when you simply make up what the other person said and you should either learn how to argue with some integrity or you should just piss off.

I hope that's clear enough you sad little man?

He would if he could but he's too buggered trying to cover Ploddus's player as well as his own.

Well you are an angry young man.
Maybe you are a year too early in making that claim about our young list not having any developing players.
Even Pavlich said on TV this morning that footy was played above the shoulders and for you to eliminate attitude and mental application as a required ingredient in success it indeed missing the message.

Yes he does support it!

3 months ago hi said this clubs aim was to make the finals no matter what. Anything else would amount to tanking.

2 weeks ago he backflipped and said we should testing players in different positions.

So yes, he fully endorses the tank.

And you keep bringing up this outside trash to back yourself up.

And here we are 7 years on, entrenched in the bottom of the table. Your comments hold no weight buddy. Meaningless dribble like always.

Can always tell when you are not comfortable in a debate.
You always resort to attacking the poster and it is not a good trait to be labeled with.
Maybe you need to come to grips with the fact that you may not always be right and add some constructive comment rather than rant and angst.

Terrific post .
Forget the angst and get into a positive mindset.

Some would say it's sticking your head in the sand?

Has the thought entered your mind that some of the games this year we have had a great positive mindset (against Collingwood as an example) but ultimately we just aren't that good?

So you can pretend there's no problem while others know this team needs changes.

Maybe we need to stay in games for longer periods.
This would be a start and we will need to supplement our developing list with a bit of new blood over the next couple of seasons. We need to get a handle on the new game plan and meld as a team and all this is enhanced by a positive mindset. I am sure this is what the club us aiming for.

I fear you may actual believe some of the content of your post.

I've made various considered and constructive posts in this very thread. You've gone with fairies and magic. When you tried to respond you didn't address what I said but rather made up a strawman and attacked that.

You are disingenuous and, let's be honest, not that clever. We all know that.

It's only when you misrepresent what I say that I get testy. The rest of the time is a mix of incredulity and pity :)

So now you're combining Simmo and Nisbetts last couple of press conferences with a light sprinkle of Royal Eagles report on his weekend chat with Simmo.

You can almost see the hamsters running on the wheel Tracker. "Repeat what the coach and GM say and I'll look clever."

I thought it was all about magically extracting the X factor from between the ears, like the Saints?

Well E87 I acknowledge that you do add some debatable commentary in your posts being negative in the most part but an interesting perspective to say the least.
What I don't get is your Negative response to having a positive mindset which in itself is a desired state in football.
To link it to some mythical or magic beast is beyond belief.
Your commentary mostly is accompanied by barbs and arrows and while I don't like this I like most realise that it is your style and something we accept as part of our football debate.
However in this instant I think you are arguing just for arguments sake.

I am still trying to work out why Simpson doesn't know about this magical fix.
Do the other coaches apart from roos know about it?
Maybe the saints discovered this fairy dust last night .
Please tell Simpson tracker because we can still win the premiership with this gold dust.

What magical fix are you referring to Smotie?
Or do you think a positive mental approach to our footy is magical.
I think you would be on your lonesome on that point.
It seems that the only dust here is that coming from you and we all know what type that is.

You refer to latent talent within and tapping into it through self belief and a positive mindset releasing confidence.
That we don't need to search for the mythical player that we are missing.

There is your fairy dust.

In fact this is totally opposite to your posts where you have said we don't have the talent on the outside. Only priddis is talented and the others are to blame for our midfield woes.
You have changed your story.

Look I get it. You watched the saints and had an epiphany for our team.
What you missed is the fact that they have talented youngsters ans some talented senior players like rewoldt who were inspired by one of their greats retiring and were passionate enough that it all clicked against a flat Fremantle who showed up expecting an easy win.

No magical formula there. No positive thinking new age meditation unearth the new greater you powers.

If you interpreted my thread to read this you are delusional.
In simplistic terms it is referring to getting the best out of ones self and having a positive attitude and never giving in. Hard work, aptitude and self belief and confidence, If you can conjure up any magical connection there you are truly the ñext David Copperfield. No illusion, no tricks just belief and hard work very simple.
St Kilda have publicly stated that this is the new bench mark they have set for themselves and their next challenge is to match this new found confidence in themselves with the belief that if they bring this intensity to the table week by week they can beat anybody.

But confidence and belief in your own ability and as a team more so can move mountains. So this leads us to the point that maybe the building blocks are there and we just have to concentrate on how they all go together rather than searching for that mythical player that when introduced will turn our fortunes around. Maybe it has to come from within because it lies latent in everyone as we witnessed yesterday.

If you interpreted my thread to read this you are delusional.

Where have I misquoted your OP which is titled "Positive Mindset"?

You do like to deflect even when it is your own thread.o_O

But they can't and they won't. And unless you are with the fairies at the end of the garden you know this ...

The reality is if Saint Kilda bring every last bit of everything they have together and, say, Sydney do on the same day who wins?

You are trying to assert something that isn't true. You have clearly insinuated that this is a big part of the solution at our club, in the OP.

You have then back-pedalled and rationalised after you nonsense was exposed.

Everyone who has ever followed sport understands the importance of self-belief. If this has just occurred to you or you've suddenly seen a light as a result of yesterday's game well, frankly you're an idiot. Assuming you aren't an idiot, if you're sole point was we could be better if everyone just believed in themselves a bit more - awesome. Wow.

But that lead you to conclude we don't need the talent injection most believe we do. We just need more belief

Which brings us back to fairies and magic.

So what EXACTLY was the point of your OP?

with the saints win over the dockers, we are now the ONLY team not to have taken a "scalp".

we have not had one single against the odds, stirring, inspiring win when going in as underdogs. every other team has had at least one such win.

there is a real stench around our club at the moment. the coach has a lot answer for in that regard. simpson has not been able to get the most out of what was a highly rated list at the start of the season.

That stench you talk about is not Simpsons fault right now, it is the smell you smell when you walk into a toilet after someone else has just taken a dump.
Worsfold left it there.
