He's sharp......

Not in the Walters, ballentyne hill (hawks and freo version) league

We need outside spread speed. So we can hurt teams with our ruck dominance when we win clearances

Garlett from carton I hear wants to come home ....but I'm concerned about his consistency ...but if we got him for a bargain that would be great
Walters is not that quick but he is highly skilled and very clever in tight situations.
Speed was the knock on him in his draft year and the reason he was bypassed early in draft.
Swift on the other hand was in the top 10% for speed in his draft but it was in the skills department that he was left wanting.

We want outside speed and Pickett is the obvious choice but I for one are dubious as to whether he wants a AFL career bad enough.

I would consider brown, Sinclair, schofield ..
Again, what do you think we'd command in return?

Dangerfield wouldn't come west I think
One way to find out.

We desperately need a Walters, hill type ....someone with serious wheels
We need a top-tier midfielder. Stephen Hill certainly has the ability to partially fill that gap. Not sure about Walters.

But if you're looking at someone like Hill, you're not going to be able trade for that talent by offering some combination of Brown, Schofield and Sinclair.

This is your problem: you say that we need to be bold at the trade table and "take risks". But actually, when questioned on who you'd like us to consider trading, your answer is very conservative.

What about LeCras? Would you trade him?

Do you reckon we'd get anymore than a second rounder? Perhaps a late first rounder from a contending team. 28 year old medium forward who isn't really a midfielder...he's a quality player but I don't think he'd attract a premium.

If we were to trade with freo its probably the one trade they would have a sniff at

That said there is no fn way id trade darling or lecca

Go to the draft - rely on sheed, yeo and shuey - hope for a come home from gc or gws

Shuey is nearly there - yeo looks like he could be anything - simply amazing player to be imho

Sheed - i have high hopes for - time will tell

And of course as these guys come good we will lose ............

A bloke who can rotate through the midfield - pick up 20 touches and score a couple or more goals as a forward

Cant see anyone being interested at all

Walters is quick now .....
Swift was fifth fastest in the 20 metre sprints in his draft year with 2.89.
Walters didn't even rate in top 10 of any of the testing.
Walters looks quick with clever play, fast hands and super skilled use of the ball in tight situations.
All the testing in 2008 pointed at Swift being a first round selection.

First rounder.

The point is, if you decide to rebuild, that's the kind of trade you have to do.

Nailing this draft would go a long way is cementing our list. Get two solid B to A grade ish players with our first two picks and hope Alec slides to the third round would be an excellent result

Perhaps you could also highlight the next 5 words that further qualify that statement...

If you were a crap side, would you trade a top 10 pick for a 28 year old medium forward? I would suggest his role is usually the least of their worries.

If you were a contender you might trade for him but then you're more likely to have a late first rounder.

Still an odd question to lead with. I'd imagine half the league would be willing to give up a first rounder for LeCras.
If you read the next five words you'd see I suggested a first round pick was possible.

I edited the above post explaining my thoughts.

As I mentioned, a late first rounder at best IMO at 28 years of age.

I'm not prepared to trade LeCras, nor do I think we need to.
The point is that if people are saying we need to rebuild, that's the kind of trade they'd need to accept.

You can't bang on about the need to rebuild and then refuse to trade anyone decent. That's the point I am making. If people think we need to rebuild, they should consider what that would entail.

It's not about needing to trade LeCras - I don't know how that would ever be the case. It's about whether it would be worth it. And if people believe we're simply not capable of challenging while LeCras is a factor, then why wouldn't it be worth it?

A lot of the people advocating a trade believe we're on the brink of success if we can just snag a top mid, rather than wanting a rebuild. That's why they tie themselves into knots with 'I don't rate x; but let's trade him for gun mid y' type arguments.

The hard fact to stomach is you've got to give quality to get quality. Just sometimes it makes sense to take a hit now to get quality later or vice versa.

I actually completely with Dargie when it comes to Lecras.

We all know how good he is, but he's getting older now and he really isn't a vital part of our team anymore. He has worth and we could start rebuilding certain areas of our team (midfield) by trading out a classy forward at the right time.

And before any idiot jumps in with... "Why would you trade out a best 22 player for a draft pick who you don't know will be good?"

Because you have to trade something to get something. Lecras is a cherry on top of a forward line brimming with talent. Meanwhile, our midfield is a steaming pile of Mr Whippy, lacking severely in skill and size.

Lecras and Scooter are the most sensible trades we could do, if we were serious about adding talent to our midfield.

We'd have to trade someone like Darling (a quality young forward) to get a quality young midfielder, I don't think it's worth it , but I'm biased (I love JD). LeCras or Selwood wouldn't cut it, but if they were really were enough, I'd be ok with trading one of them.

Have you heard of Australian understatement

He's a first rounder easy
You tell me what you think we could get for him.

I suggested he might get a "last first rounder from a contender", so you're probably looking at 15+

Do you think he'd get a top 5 pick? Top 10?

To have such outrage over my post, I'm guessing you think he'd get far higher than 15? Is there much evidence suggesting a 28 year old medium forward would command such a premium?
