Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Brisbane

Comprehension seems to be something that you struggle with.

In your original post, that I replied to, you stated that Clubs cant draft A Grade mids unless they have single digit draft picks.

I gave you examples of cases that refuted that.

You didn't like the answer I gave, as it showed you statement to be incorrect.

Even Captain Obvious can see that the odds are greater and you are more likely to draft an A grader ( in any position ) with a single digit draft pick, I think all can acknowledge that.

But and here is the point I was originally making, that doesn't mean you CANT FIND A GRADE MIDS LATTER IN THE DRAFT.

So how the connection, you now draw between single digit draft picks and mature age draftees taken with late picks validates your original post, is both questionable and hard to understand.

By the way here is where the players in the latest post you comment on, were drafted.

Podsiadly: 2009 Rookie Draft Pick # 50 for Geelong.
Pickett: 2019 Mid Season Draft Pick # 13 for Richmond.
Smith : 2010 National Draft Pick # 19 for Hawthorn.

Oh and I do apologies that you feel your head was bitten off weeks ago, I do hope that you are healing well. :thumbsu:

LOL, yeah look you can find an A grader with pick 62 technically if you go enough back in time. Plenty of examples and yet you were, tightly, concerned with odds of finding one. Which was exactly point I was trying to make if you go and read all of the posts I made around that time. My posts were long. I said a lot more than you quoted.

But carry on. Next time would suggest not to jump on first thing you see and ignore the remainder.

Positive
The WAFL top players have all put in a 100% effort and generally haven't looked out of their collective depths.

Negative.
The not worth drafting by any club WAFL top up players are better than our established, supposed AFL standard mids.

Why limit this to mids. Florenca was more poised, skillful and showed far more match awareness than most of our players. Simply he was a far better footballer.

Duggan is pretty frustrating in my eyes. I like him, but I had the following question running through my mind last night.

What’s his role, exactly?

He’s not a great shut down defender who regularly quells elite small forwards.

He’s not a dashing rebounding defender.

He doesn’t rack up possessions.

He doesn’t relieve midfield players with minutes through the guts.

I feel like we’ve been saying the same thing with him for 5 odd years now. He’ll end up in the middle and play well there. It isn’t happening, and all we’re left with is a bit of an inbetweener. Not a bad player, but one we really should be getting more out of.

Even his best games are basically solid efforts on a back flank. He’s a resource we need a lot more out of, and by this stage of his career he should be influencing results a lot more than he does.
Duggan does pretty good defensively. Hard to judge our defenders when the ball is coming in so easily, so often.

Duggan benefits from having been identified as a future leader from his first season. That perception has masked his lack of development.

We desperately need to address our lack of tackles inside 50m

We were again out tackled inside the 50m arc 9 to 18, and its been the theme of the season

Our forwards need to improve their defensive efforts asap to give us repeat opportunities to score
It's been an issue for a long time, but it felt like we were OK yesterday.

We had about half the I50's and half the I50 tackles, so about right.

Shouldn't be losing the overall tackle count though.

- Nick Martin won the game against the odds for the Bombers.

Nicki Martin. Remember that guy we had train with us last year and elected to not pickup who has been Essendon's best player this year and likely win the rising star?

Averaging 22 disposals, 7 score involvements and has booted 10 goals playing forward/mid.

Was this identificalion soley on BF by the fanboy consortium? He has never shown himself to be more than a C grad HBF abgaisnt good teams.

Probably heavily based on him being chosen as AFLX captain in 2018, and a lack of other clear young candidates. So it’s not going off much although I think he does have captain characteristics.

For me personally Dugg needs to focus on getting on the park and isn’t near the captaincy at the moment. He had an outstanding 2020 season, but has struggled to stay fit and consistent since. If Shuey were to hand over the captaincy I think it should go to Gov for a couple of years, then we re assess who is the better fit out of Dugg and Allen.

  • Jameson really impressed me.There was a "little" bit of Melbournes Jackson about him,Injuries plus two games into his career.Very promising.
  • Florenca was a goer.
  • Wilder definitely looks the goods.Touch of class about this kid.
  • We need to address the need for a new captain.Shuey gives his all when he plays but we need a bit more muscle as leader. Hopefully Oscar A is being pencilled in.
  • For all our talk about kids/drafts we should never forget that the best sides have the best big men.Not necessarily the most talented but goers. Lycett/Vardy was a smashing combo. Richmond have Nankervis crunching people.Melb have Gawn/Jackson.
Jameson looks like he can meet that criteria.I like Edwards on the ball because it frees him up and lets him play with a bit of freedom instead of being a young defender sitting under a barrage of forward entries. P.S. please rush that order of "nasty" pills he desperately needs.
  • Rotham seems to be at a crossroads in his career.Hes a strapping lad with speed but he plays like a f##king scaredy cat.
  • I think in the short term we need to get back to enjoying our footy.Lets go hunting.I mean really?? could we do any worse? Forget packing the backline and trying to run the ball out.Lets have faith in our defenders getting the ball out occasionally and when the mad kick comes JDs way we have somebody with him to help him instead of one guy blocking/wrestling him and the other guy running off with the crumbs.
-Get loose Simmo youve got nothing to lose.

I thought Winder well and truly held his own for a bloke playing his first game. Couldn’t help but notice however he looked absolutely gassed every time there was a close up on him. Can imagine conditioning would be a large factor in him not having played yet this year.

Rob Wiley seemed to hint at that when discussing Winder in the round 3 WAFL recap.

He's got a lot of natural ability and talent, perhaps it is that fitness/conditioning side of things that's holding him back.

John Denver is never enjoyable? Altogether strange music to be playing at a footy stadium...is it
a QLD country thang? QLD is responsible for a lot of bad stuff, goes all the way back to Paulene Hanson, Joh-Bjelke and cane toads...but lets not go there?
Each Brissy player gets to pick their music after each Goal. Charlie Picked country roass as his

My bad, hope Charlie enjoyed his toon...
(Denver just reminds me of a friend who's been singing his songs since the 70's, fifty years of James Taylor and John Denver can do your head in...)

He doesn't stack up with Shep, Hurn, Gov or Barrass.
He's not a Jetta, a Witherden, a Foley?
He's more a Cole or a Nelson...
Is he a cleaner version of West, all attack and no finish?

And he does give some run from defence. Close to the only one who does but there are just too many holes to plug as opposition players just stream through our midfield and forward line in droves

I think Duggan is a good solid player but he won't evolve much from here skills wise. However, I think the coaches can continue to get more out of him by fine tuning what exactly they want from him during a game and tinkering with the directions he is given.

It was only last week most had him as one of the best vs the Tigers, but he's not a BOG type player the way Shuey, Yeo and Kelly should be.

One thing I'd like to see is getting him into position to tackle, he's one of the few on the team that I thought was actually pretty good at wrapping people up, however he seems like he's not in positions to tackle recently, which I think is a direct consequence of our disposal and ball movement issues being so bad that teams can move it cleanly when attacking us after a turnover.

Sometimes the team is so bad it's hard to judge what players are meant to be doing.

His disposal has improved a lot since when he was first here, he had a horrible ball drop when running full tilt and was prone to these odd grubber kicks as a result, I can't recall him doing that for at least 4 years now. I don't see him blunder simple passes, but he does sometimes spray clearing balls out on the full. The lesser of the two evils as far as I am concerned.

TL;DR - We've got bigger issues than Duggan, he won't be a superstar midfielder but he can contribute, but that's not to say we shouldn't expect good service from him.

PS: Bring back the Duggan and Hurn bumps that hurt the opposition.
