At least he's got a leg on him. He cleared the fence with that set shot from 50m+ easily.

For all the coaches in the world working for our organization you'd think they'd have changed his technique a bit if it's so bad.

Could be a real weapon if he could get on top of it. Plus also get the ball.

When williams can kick consistently from straight in front of goal 30 metres out i'll consider him a chance of being a forward. His goal kicking is on a level with Casboults. He doesn't get his hip in line with the goals when kicking set shots and his arm tends to go outside the line of the body. He needs a lot of work.

Speaking of XON, I thought he had a good game, and needs a run at it now in best 22. Not sure that's likely though unfortunately with the return of our stars imminent. Showed a bit on Sunday.

Having watched the replay last night, I thought the umpiring was putrid, heavily loaded in Suns favour - at least 3 goals went their way either through frees or non-free kicks to us. The huge shove in the back to the Gov which led to a goal is one that sticks in my claw.

Hurn play on for farting??
The 360degree tackle in our fwd line.
2-3 missed 50m penalties for players getting inside protected area.

But we did get a couple where I was like F-me what was that for, I'll take it though

Don't usually get caught up in the ump thing, but did seem like a lot of frees went their way, often in convenient locations? Simmo referred to it as well.
Anyone know the free kick count?

Last quarter at my rough count, we had 2, they had 8. I might've missed a couple paid late when the game was dead.

For what it’s worth I thought he had a pretty good game. Started slowly but the longer the game went the more prominent he became.
He has copped a bit of flack on here, which I think is a tad harsh.
It must be remembered that he has only really been here training with us for little over a week or two.
Coming in afresh to a new game plan and a whole bunch of new players is not an easy task…..actually it’s a huge ask.

I have high hopes for him as he has run and carry ability in his game and that’s a component that our list is short on, plus his long and accurate foot skill are something that, given time and familiarity with our structures, can be taken advantage of and could be come a point of difference weapon for us.

He certainly provides a class of depth to our list that has been missing given the spuds that we have carried as depth the past few seasons.

Long answer but I was very happy with his first hit out for us.

Could not agree more. I thought he was better than just ok. I loved how his first thought is to be attacking and look to the corridor. Big upside as far as I am concerned.
Very concerned however that he will lose his spot this week. Gee I hope not.

Well it's true that cats prefer meat to carrots

I used to have a cat who went absolutely nuts over bags of carrots. He'd purr and rub his face all over them, try and tear the bag open to get at them, you couldn't drag him away from them. He was a ginger cat so I think he must have felt a kinship with them.

I think Fatty was making a crude joke

Agree and I too am worried that he will get dropped.

From a coaching perspective I always like to have a pair of complementary wingmen.
I am sure you will get what I mean.
I see Naish and Gaff as being just that.

Liked that Naish’s first option is to look for a quick movement forward and that he runs full tilt whilst he is assessing his options.
Also he checks out the Center corridor for viable option, love that he goes no more than 50 degree on the inboard angle but doesn’t go backwards.
He plays a very distinctive Richmond style ball movement into the forward line.
As a lead up forward that’s what you die for, a distributor up ground who is accurate by foot but passes fast and low out front of you, to run onto the ball and mark.
With frequent feed like that, a good forward can capitalise and hit the scoreboard often.

Refreshing to watch - now just hope like hell he holds his spot in the team.

Nic has been our best player for the past 2 years, but our most important from about 2013 onwards and my favourite for a long time. However it's been bloody disappointing seeing him come back heavier and heavier in the gut the last two years. He's one of our leaders and our MVP I just can't take the he's had two knee recos or his Fijian descent. Surely get on a bike and diet. He looked a fair bit off the pace on Sunday.

NN has always a had difficulty with Witt’s, he has had the wood on NN over the years.
NN is bigger than most AFL ruckmen but Witts is bigger and stronger than most of his contemporaries, including NN.

Because he is big and particularly when he was younger, rather gangly, he has been underrated by most in the footballing fraternity.
Make no mistake Witt’s is a seriously good ruckman.
Whilst I agree that Nic looks out of sorts BUT it’s only week one and I for one am not writing him off just yet.

Witts first game back from ACL, he was exceptional. Tough challenge this week

Witts being given the Captaincy of GCS seems to have made him a lot more competitive , I was impressed with his game v Geelong a few weeks ago ..

I'm not under estimating Witts, he's a great player and was for a few years leading to the ACL. More disappointed in Nic tbh

What has annoyed me for a few years now is NN playing from behind at boundary throw ins. It has pissed me off. But last night I watched the replay of the sun's game, and thought came to me - maybe it's to protect his knees. Having a big ruckman crash into the back of you would put enormous pressure on the knees. I would love to see the NN of some years ago, but not to be, maybe it's all about preservation now.

For what it's worth, very proud of the effort and gallantry shown in the game; what with 11 of our best missing, it was fantastic. Only the last 5 minutes got us. Foley was terrific. Can't wait to have all of SPS, Ryan, JJ and Willie in action on field; it would be a nightmare for opposition defences. JJ and SPS impressed me last night. I didn't think Williams was as bad as many on here implied. Witts is one big dude, 209cms, and he shows up a lot of other more accomplished ruckman. I think there's still hope for Bailey.
Like others, Hough impressed me. He will be a beauty. Hurn was, unfortunately, not impressive. He might be an okay matchup for Zurharr next game, but he should have retired last year.
Feeling positive vibes on 22 after that performance.
This. And agree re Williams. Fine motor coordination can take a bit longer to develop for a lot of people his size.

Oh I know, I just felt like talking about my old weird ass cat.
Trooly rooly I wasn't trying to be rood. It's just that the second-worst thing I've ever eaten was a carrot concoction that a vegan used to try and convert several carnivores. I didn't work. As for cats, my brother had one called Morrie who used to sit on the edge of the bathtub and paddle the water with his paw. That looked cute. But if it was a bloke in the bath, when he got out, the cat would apply a full-claw tackle tackle and swing on it, which was pretty painful and a difficult extraction.

JK giving that bloke a cuddle from behind after being so comprehensively beaten for position and then realising his mistake was pretty funny too. Plenty of cobwebs being blown out in R1.
At the moment JK is playing like a newby. He never looks like taking a mark and looks clumsy. Doing a lot of work though so hopefully he regains some touch pretty quickly

No disrespect to Witts, but our stoppage set-ups were really, really dumb.

You can't be trying to go these cute, precise taps if your Nic Nat when they have their A team and we are playing a 4th string midfield

Case in point, the first 3 center bounces in the last quarter: Nic got first hands to all three bounces and attempted precision tapping. 1 we got, resulting in a goal. And 2 they sharked, resulting in 2 goals.

And there in lies the problem: in trying to be precise, we lost more then we gained

The instruction in that game really should have been to smashed the ball forward at every opportunity to try and remove the influence of Miller and Rowell as much as possible
