Random thought.
Petrucelle cannot use his pace well. There's no point having wheels if you're skills aren't calibrated to function at top pace.
Example: Lewis Jetta can pick up a ball one handed at top speed. Petch can't.
Same goes with receiving a handball or collecting a bouncing ball(how many times has he raced into open space but been caught because he's slow to collect the ball?), he fails at top speed. Without improving this area his speed isn't much of an asset. Sill young though, so no reason he won't get better.
We were saying last night he had so many chances to burst away and tried weird snap kicks or horrid handbalks where if he put the foot down he'd have extra space to settle.

He seems to get caught quite often for someone who's main strength is his speed...

Tigers look the goods, run in packs, rarely lose a one on one, their forwards play in front and spread, and their small forwards are always at the fall of the ball.
Compare that to how we play............

Glad I wasn’t alone in having a s**tty sleep..
The fwdline goal kicking was terrible and left us struggling to build some swagger and confidence..Everything was a struggle which created the b grade skills like Duggan dropping a ******* chest mark which Hawks goalless off ..

Every single wce supporter thank whoever you pray too we played Collingwood last year in the GF. We managed to jag that one. If we played Richmond we'd have been r@ped.

No positives to come from that pea hearted performance with top 4 on the line.

Straight sets exit on the cards.

Simmo has credits in the bank. Needs to develop a plan B and C. Cannot just back the system all the time and then wonder why it comes unstuck against top tier coaches and players.

Gov and barrass need to learn one on one footy again.

Need a speedy classy outside mid.

Kennedy plays at home only next year.

Fk Richmond and Fk the AFL for gifting 7 straight home games to finish the season.

See yas next year.

But would the AFL give Wce the last 7 games at Optus stadium to build confidence and momentum..

I didnt realise Richmond and their home games. That just sucks. Imagine if the eagles got to play 7 straight games at optus stadium to finish off the season. And if Richmond win today, that's 3 or 4 straight mcg games to the premiership. So they would have played 10 straight games. It's a miracle any non Melbourne team wins a premiership. Also it shows how underperforming Richmond have been to take 37 years to win again.

I noticed tonight that Darling would refuse to go for ground balls and would sorta back out of ground ball contests to wait for someone to give it to him even if it meant we were outnumbered. Was the corkie still hampering him and affecting his ability to get low?
Honestly reminded of our first game against Hawthorn in 2017 after we lost the GF to them in 2016. Everyone was expecting us to come out breathing fire and instead we had one of the most meek, fumbling and insipid displays in recent memory. We played that game with fear.

And for some reason we played last night with fear. Honestly we probably should of lost the earlier game against the Hawks but they didn't take their chances and last night they did.

I honestly don't know why the players are so scared.
I think it starts at the top as IMO Simmo seems to lack confidence when coaching against his old boss, Clarkson. Probably something to do with the fact he (the Hawks) have touched us up so many times. It's like Simmo is in awe of him. For the same reason (having been touched up by the Hawks on so many occasions) although in 2015 when we were on fire did touch up the Hawks at Subi. Did notice the fear factor though - surprising all things considered as it's not as though we are a bottom 4 side.

We have this sense of nervousness that seems to transcend ladder position or form.

It's totally bizarre.

Going into last night, we'd beaten hawks last two times away. In 2016 we smashed them at home but lost away, in 2017 we lost the only game away. I don't think Simmo is scared of Clarko, more like Clarko is just a good coach.

That's kind of my point though. The commentators always rave about his speed, but he is regularly getting caught. He is not adapted to perform complex footy tasks at top/high speed.

Say he is running to an open goal, as he goes to take the shot he slows down because he can't execute more complex parts of the game at his top speed. This inefficiency is what allows him to get caught.

A good contrast is Liam Ryan, someone very good at executing skill at high speed. Petch has the speed but he cannot use it well.

Yes, despite the fact we lost 3 B22 players, had to deal with a whole bunch of s**t from the media, and broke a 23 year hoodoo against someone at a ground we haven't played well at in recent years, that season was definitely a fluke.

Don't want to put it all on them because the whole team was horrible but JKs miss just before QT wouldve put us 2 goals up and Reddens set s**t in the 2nd could of put us 14 points up.

Things like that can make a young team drop their heads.

The ball dribbled its way to hawks fwd line a few times and within 5 mins hawks were 3 goals up.
