Positives and Negatives vs Melbourne

Brander hasn't failed every time he's had a chance. He hasn't had a chance at all. He is meant to be a forward.

Young players don't get to pick and choose their positions. The Eagles have tried to turn him into a winger because he's shown very little as a forward at both WAFL and AFL level. He looked like an outside player today, no sign of taking a contested mark or breaking a tackle, hardly key forward material.

Brander was just a little overawed playing league in a big stadium for the first time.
Good for him to have a run, he'll be a lot better next week for it.

Strongly agree on the Redden more inside, Kelly more outside sentiment.

Jarrod "staker" Brander.

Gaff also shirked a contest going back with the flight. If you're going to go back even if it means running into another player or being hit you hit the contest and affect the result, you don't pull out so the opposition can get the ball. If you get nailed from the MRP for what is a genuine football act you wear it on the chin.

Also viney is a ducking, diving lucky piece of s**t. He played a decent game but when half your game is based around free kicks it's not ideal.

Tom Hickey after todays performance you will be constantly looking over your shoulder until may 31st.

You were gifted a game today by the match committee and came up donuts.

My boy Bailey Williams is about to overtake you.......... and should have played today.

Positives:

  1. We won.
  2. Our best is very good.
  3. NN :thumbsu:
  4. TB :thumbsu:
  5. Enjoyed watching more genuine midfield options.

-------------------------

Negatives:

  1. Match Committee depriving my boy Bailey Williams of his debut.
  2. JK 🤢
  3. General laziness .
  4. Once again the inability to play 4 quarters of football.
  5. Very rusty.
  6. Our worst efforts are depressing.
  7. Thats probably the season done and dusted.

---------------------------

Kelly was OK but he wasn't great today, obviously needs more time to get the chemistry right, which is understandable.

The calls of Gaff being soft or shirking it running back with the flight are interesting.
F*** me, his teammate is out for goodness knows how long doing that, (Venables), and Polly's brain has been studied.
But Gaff is soft.:thumbsu: Good one
This x 1000

Let’s not also forget that Gaff himself was wiped out by Jonas in a very similar situation that took him quite some time to get over - didn’t miss many (if any) games at the time but with current protocols he’d have missed a few weeks at least

Free kicks conceded:

9 - Melbourne total
7 - Eliot Yeo
4 - West Coast total (excluding Yeo)

In a game where only 20 free kicks were paid, Yeo conceded 7 (35%) of them.

That’s surely something kind of record

negative, whats a nega tive.
Boys were great when it counted.
NN dominate gawn - bring oin the lesser opponents - well so not for a while
Umpires where on par twith other games and Marsh Cup. Pathetic.
We have a club that is very strong and will survive and thrive

First half was willing and Melbourne shot themselves out of the game (yet again) with appalling goal kicking early.

Positives:
- Great to see Naita dominating in the middle
- Gaff looked back to his best living on the outside
- Nelson looks like he has found his feet at the level. Very composed in traffic and played within his limits
- Mids lowered their eyes and used the smalls well i50 given Kennedy and Darling were being well held
- Sheed attempted to lay a tackle in open play
- Defence looked much better organised than the last couple of months of 2019

Negatives:
- Definite signs that we still don't work hard enough when the game isn't on our terms
- Definite signs that the guys are happy to go into cruise control once we are 4 goals up

Overall just a fair amount of apathy was evident. You can't really blame the guys given the current circumstances but it was still disappointing to see senior players like Redden just going through the motions when 4 points were on the line.

Positives:

- We won
- Barrass was back to his old form
- Gaff dominated on the wing where he belongs
- Hurn was Mr Dependable
- Ryan was our dominant forward
- Nic Nat looked fit and motivated
- Ah Chee was noticeable and had an impact
- Sheed looked good
- Cripps sets up a lot of goals

Negatives:
- Kennedy should have retired last season
- Hickey was non-existent for the vast majority of the match
- We still go into cruise mode
- Brander still looks a little lost
- That was probably the last match of the season.

Having not seen him play before, he looked as if the wing was not his spot, looks to have skills when he's got it but can he get it often enough.
Gee.

I think he looks good by foot but his handballing is a concern.

That may be just a bit of time and a few more games to sort out. Gov made far bigger and stupider mistakes but gets a free pass.
Did he? Gov was poor yesterday and was called out by numerous posters.
