I think we've seen how much NicNat papered over the midfield cracks for 2020 and 2021. This midfield peaked in 2018 and was good enough to win a flag with a brilliant set of forwards and defenders to compensate but by the standards of premiership midfields it was never strong. They've obviously declined with age and it was really only NN covering for them. Now they are being badly exposed.

This can turn around within a few seasons but we are going to have to nail at least two of the next three drafts, if not all three. Thinking positively our two worst seasons %-wise netted us Chris Judd and NicNat. As there is in any season, there's some nice prospects at the top end of this draft. We're definitely down in the bottom few teams for at least 2022 and 2023. NicNat-Shuey-Sheppard

Sadly, this is currently tracking to be our worst season ever. I don't mind being down the bottom end of the table given the cyclical nature of the league but all-time worst seasons and wooden spoons are not good for the morale - both internally and externally.

Thats the jibe I got from the supporters on the train...they don't like losing but they hate being made the fool...and that what's happening atm....there is just nothing from this playing group that gives you hope. When you consistently keep getting thrashed and the game is over at the start of 2nd quarter serious questions need to be asked

I was amazed at three quarter time seeing the supporters head for the exits...must of been at least 10000-15000 people get up and leave early....We stayed for JKs 700 the only highlight of the game.....but gee it was hard seeing our team just so pathetic

I think the playing group is broken and this is worse than 2010 and 89 ...I have seen some bad eagles teams but they had some quality coming through....this lot has nothing...lets face it the younger players are just not good and the older players lack leadership and substance for the younger group

IMO as the club is so sick you have to make changes and it starts from the top Nisbett Shuey please just f**king go

Clark looked our best and most confident mid.
Dugg consistently plays with the most intent and desire to drive the ball forward. Our best tonight.
Witho. Our whole team, including Witho was poor defensively but he is our best and most productive option out of defence
Gov. Not his great game but still plays with intent and natural footballing ability, two things lacking in the squad.
West shows flashes, but we need to get these players playing their best roles. Clark on a wing and Gaff on ball is ridiculous.
Kennedy is still our most dangerous forward
The fact Nic Nat held this shambles of a midfield together and made it look good is a miracle

The most painful part is watching the complete lack of effort, commitment, intent and endeavour. So flat, boring and safe. When we do try to apply pressure, we waste energy without affecting the play and give away free kicks.
Tackling. We have always been bad at tackling but it's beyond a joke now. We simply do not prevent opposition players from releasing the ball and allow them to exit congestion and make a fast play. It's mind-blowing to watch.
How many weeks left?

I think this is the thing im having the hardest part rationalising to myself.

Even in the Judge and end of the Woosha eras, we at least played a brand of footy. It wasnt a good brand, but there was still a recognisable structure and semblance of a gameplan in place. You could see we were trying to execute something onfield.

Whats happening on gameday this year is just.....bizarre. This is beyond covid, beyond disjointed training regimes and players being in and out of the side sporadically. No one has any f*cken idea what they are supposed to be doing - "am I supposed to contest this ball drop"? "Am I supposed to kick through the middle or look for the wings"? "Am I kicking backwards or forwards in this scenario"? "Am I supposed to be pressing up the ground or into defence"?

Its like a football game is happening around the players and they're just sort of...there?
 
I know he had a quiet game last week, but I really like how Foley attacks down the corridor, and we missed that tonight. I think Hurn should leave the distribution to Witho and Foley

We actually resisted the old bomb it long and to the right "tactic" coming out of defence

Negative

We lack the footskills and composure (or workrate up the ground) to do anything else even halfway competently. And this includes Hurn who at one stage had 100% disposal efficiency but those passes were to blokes who got tackled immediately, turnover, goal.

We used to be a reliable kick-mark team, which compensated somewhat for the piss poor contested play.

Now we can't kick or mark.

-The rucks and midfielders are a sad joke.
I left early before I started saying dumb shit to the Tigers supporters around us.
Last game I laughed, this game I got angry, don't think I've ever left a game early before.
Can't see any light at the end of the tunnel, think it's going to be a long tunnel.
Life's short and I'm running out of years, might find something else to spend my money on next year.

Shit night tonight and tough times ahead for you guys but I've got no intention of making fun. As much as I don't really like you guys, 2018 will always hold a special place in my heart. The dead silence when Sheed kicked that goal, and the literal flowing of tears from my pies mates after the game was nearly as good as one of our flags haha


And although this comes with a considerable risk of me getting banned, can I say that Darling is a flog on and off the pitch.
