Didn't see this type of thing anywhere, so thought I'd start it.

Top 5 player positives
- Keane. Solid game from the youngster. Some good marks, some good tackles, and some good defensive decisions and attacking decisions. Also good footskills. Showed he is likely to develop into an AFL player in my view.
- Noble. Was the best of the youngsters in my view. Probably just locked in his attacking back pocket role for round one (against Quaynor probably). Great attacking running, good footskills, solid defensive pressure. I've got him in for round 1.
- Cameron. Clearly a positive. Good around the ground with good ruck work and marking. Good kicking for goal. Great to have another key forward / ruck prospect on the list.
- Reid. I thought he showed alot in the first half. Good contesting, some good clunks, and was always a threat. Maybe a three tall forwardline with Cox, Reid, Miho can work if we push De Goey further into the midfield (to fill Beams vacancy)
- Rantall. Only a quarter, but positive signs from Rantall showing he can get useful running around in the midfield. Will play seniors this year.

3 disappointments
- Maynard. Below average with his kicking again. He is very inconsistent with his skills, and showed it again today
- Atu. Comfortably looked out of his depth. Very unlikely to make it in my view.
- WHE. He just really isn't making an impact, same a last year. Needs to do something or will find himself in the VFL and will struggle to come back.

You really think Reid is a positive? Didn't do much of note in the half he was on and then off the ground with yet another injury. Pies should have cut their ties with him after last year.

I thought he looked the KPF (from either side) most likely to impact the game early on. Crunched a few packs, clunked some marks. With the sort of F50 delivery we had throughout the game I'm not too sure what else we should/could have been expecting.

Maybe so Jackass. I'm just conditioned to thinking Reid is past it, too slow, an unreliable mark and kick for goal.

It's just the impression I have of him. It will take a lot of consistent performances from him, and an extended injury-free run, before I will change my perception.

I just call it as I see it. History is just that. It can be a useful guide but certainly isn't a guarantee.

Maynard has had a few niggles and has only been starting to get back into it. He began a bit rusty but made up for it with a very solid second half.
Atu from what I could make out was playing as a defensive forward. All you can ask of a player is that they do their job and I thought Atu did that.
WHE was our best forward in the Carlton game. He didn't have it his own way against Richmond but Richmond have two of the best defensive backs in the competition. You take goals from anywhere and most of them came further up the field.

Thought Daicos showed a lot, some very nice clean kicks. Imo needs to be given a run of games like callum was given last year.

I'm sure he'll miraculously come good and get over his injuries after a 10 year bad run. :$

Think if the Pies want to get 2018 back, there should be FAR more competition than currently is for spots...Phillips, WHE, Thomas, Reid etc...all should be pushed out even if it hurts in the short term, end of the season it'll be far more useful to have pumped games into the new recruits, Keane etc..

I thought Atu showed real potential.

Good opening Post:

good to watch

Noble: was a revelation last year and I'm really looking forward to seeing him go on with it after a pre-season under his belt
Cameron: was (if I'm honest) a complete surprise, might be something to work with there and will keep Cox honest
Rantall: Showed he might break through in his first year
Keane: Got better as the game went on and could break his way into the side, given form and injury concerns of other key backmen

concerns

Reid: broken down in the first practice match of the season
Atu: Looks nowhere near it
Trealor: Hammy!

From the practice match on Sunday:

new surprises and positives from the players not auto selections:

  • Darcy Cameron. Seemed quite ok. Ofcourse a long way to go, but he went well.
  • mark Keane. A real revelation. Just adding to our back area stock. Nice hit out.
  • josh Daicos. I was quite surprised as he kicked both an old style Daicos dribble goal and then a loaded long bomb goal. He has skill, no doubt, has talent. Will he emerge or be that perpetual almost there depth type like Paul Tuddenham was for us. But moves nicely.
  • John Noble. He is certainly building something of a good body of work. If nothing else, he’ll keep a few in the side honest.
  • jay Rantall. The REAL HIGHLIGHT for me. Gee one quarter only but he shows a maturity and based on his known work ethic and (elite) running talent, might be a real steal from draft night. I’ll leave it there because I’ve been known to, let’s just call it unintended friendly fire, jinx a few.
now for the lesser aspects (only one practice match so with a grain of salt):

  • not sure Atu made any headway on Sunday, has work to do
  • Mrs Brown’s Boys gee they look alike, height helps ID them. Patchy games. Some ok stuff
  • not sure how Taylor found a way to get fined, when others in yellow and black seem to do same same but obviously different

Sometimes a nice spell does you good

:)
Agree, l have a week off quite often just to refresh
Haha not sure if this exchange was witty or genuine.
I initially read it as witty but now I think the two of you are beyond that level of wit.:):)

Here is how I read it.
Sv: Sometimes a good spell does you good...Having a sly dig at the fact that SR said "new you couldn't stay away" instead of "knew".

That’s beyond my pay grade, alas.

very worthy of the bard himself.
