Mate I wanna be excited about Lamb and Jackson, but from the little I saw of Duggan I think he will be average and not elite. I tipped us to win last night as I have Carlton below us on the ladder come seasons end, Bontempelli excites the hell out of me and this is the kind of player we require to add to our list to compliment our excellent spine. We are still "FTB" and we need to knock off either Freo or Port to improve past this and become a serious competitor for the 8. If we hit the Port game in a month's time and have 4 wins under our belt I will be impressed, 3 means we lost to Freo and beat up GWS and the Lions with the jury will still be out in my books.
What margin? I wasn't confident, I only tipped by 12 pts. I do see your point on Duggan, but let him develop a little and see what you think then. Dougy Hawkins rates him highly I believe.
Don't worry, we're not contenders this year, I'm not saying that. I like the draft we had last year, but that has been a long time coming and I can only presume it is the coach influencing the recruiting decisions. Have you read Simpson's comments in the west, especially about contested football? I like the cut of the man's jib. ;)

Losing to the Bulldogs last week by 10 points is not looking too bad at the moment.
Well, I did ask my son after last night, how did Richmond only beat the Blues by 27?? :$

There will be plenty to keep us positive this year mate, so long as we don't get too hysterical over the inevitable off weeks.
Just as long as we know you're on standby, we'll be fine. ;)

Dogs were very good today.
Would have been great to get the win over them, but they look a FAR better team than last year which is amazing considering who they've lost.

Good team to watch.

Funny how people are realising that the Dogs are a half decent side now that the emotion is taken out of it.

And therein lies the problem. We struggle to beat half decent sides and above and people make excuses for it. Who gives a shit if they are or aren't, we should be able to beat anyone anywhere with no excuses.
As soon as a side becomes half decent our club goes into a "oh well they are half decent".

Old Fremantle mentality #34 has taken residence in our club. Had a gutfull of excuses from our supporters.

So your complaint is that we are not the best team in the competition.

My post was a response to the nuffies who didn't watch the game (or didn't pay attention) and say 'well the Eagles lost to a bottom four side, they will go close to the spoon", and trust me there has been plenty. Last week was as gutting a loss as any we've had for a while but I'm not sure how you can argue against the relevance of how well the Dogs played as being a factor in assessing where we are at.

We are an 8th-10th range side, and neither this week nor last week's performances have suggested any different.

My complaint is people make excuses for our losses like they are a half decent side.
We lost the game because our disposal is shit and we are slow.
Any team that can expose this we lose to which is and half decent side. The dogs exposed this in us and its about time we dealt with it.
I don't expect us to win every game but the issues at our club have been the same for seven years and the excuses wearing thin.
We don't deal with the reasons we lose.

Um, the reason we lost is because the Dogs are a better side than us and will probably go close to the eight (if they can sustain it). That's not an excuse that is a reality.

Point totally missed. Never mind.

Your point was weird. The club wasn't making any excuses, a few fans merely pointed out the Dogs are good side which is absolutely relevant in the context of the loss.

Has there been anything to come out of the club to suggest they are making excuses? Cause I really don't think a few fans making observations reflects the attitude of the club.

If I say Fremantle are a better side than us is that making a pre-emptive excuse for the weekend?

My point wasn't weird. We are flat rack bullies. Anyone above flat track we lose to because we cant lift as a side to match or better the opposition. Its not hard to understand.

Yeah, I don't like flat racks either, they should be banned.. :D

Not sure what you want us supporters to do about it.

Haha, we weren't even discussing the term 'flat track bully' so it's cute how you just gave me a little definition for it then said 'it's not hard to understand'. Thanks for shedding some light.

Yeah, this may definitely end up just being remembered as one of our typical "flat track bully" moments unless we beat some top 8 quality sides. Carlton looked absolutely terrible after 1/4 time, although Rosa's brilliant effort on Judd may have had an effect on the margin, but Judd alone, wouldn't have got them anywhere near a win.
Impossible to judge the rest of the season or change your opinion about where we'll finish, based on this result. It was good to see JK get 10 and secure 4 points though, but it'll be still be a long, tough season ahead.

So you're saying that we beat teams below us and lose to teams above us... I'm gobsmacked.

Seriously though, I don't see anyone making excuses, just responding to the many assertions that were made a week ago that losing to the Bulldogs would put us in contention for the spoon. Their performance this weeks suggests that it doesn't put us that low. Noone said anything along the lines of the loss being OK or that we shouldn't be working hard as a side to win the close games.
