Agree...Brown is the standard so he proved he is our FB tonight. Very very happy with this. With Rance playing FB, Grimes a gun 3rd tall who can play on small or leading forwards...we really only need a tall CHB who can also play on the resting ruck.

I still think Deledio needs to play in the middle and we will become unstoppable. Hopefully Batchelor can turn into an accumulator who can run it out with Houli and Newman because then we would really have a great mix.

Anyway onto the thread title:

Positives
RANCE's efforts on Brown. Really only kicked a couple due to some soft frees.

Vickery being a gun tall forward with amazing agility. Seriously turning that bloke inside out was ridiculous for a guy that stands at 200cm. If only he kicked the goal.

Cotchin getting 30 quality touches as always.

Martin kicking 5. (NEGATIVE was he should have had 6...makes it a mega bag which is shattering)

Houli (great pick up by the club).

NEGATIVES

The umpiring was terrible and not in our favour. The Edwards freekick and the one against Jackson for sticking up for Nahas were outrageous.

Browne was very good tonight imo, but got hammered by Luenburger in the ruck. We need to get a gun ruckman because it makes your midfield look that much better and I think thats all we are missing.

Re: Votes Vs Lions

As good as Dusty was I think Vickery stood up when we needed it to get us back in and keep us in the game.

So mine:

5. Vickery
4. Dusty
3. Cotchin
2. Rance (was good, got great help and a bit of luck with Brown perhaps not at his cleanest in marking)
1. Jackson (great on Black)

Slops didn't stuff up tonight. Would like to see him have a full run at it next week. I've got this crazy idea where he improves and plays the hard nut goalkicking forward role in our next flag.
Thought he did some good heavy work tonight - was involved in setting up a goal within seconds of coming onto the ground. His disposal has improved as well.

Biggest negative was the umpiring, absolutely killed the game as a spectacle. As soon as it started to get free flowing mcburney found a soft free and slowed it down again. It was like watching rugby tonight. As soon as they put the whistle away at the end we got our run going and dominated like we should have done all night.

Houli is a jet.

Miller/Farmer/Webberly are the fat

Spot on.

Webberly was not terrible but not that good either. Given his size or lack thereof if he thinks he can play like that an expect AFL games he is sadly mistaken.

Farmer again shows a lack of respect for his opponents. He was lazy last week in the 1st half and was again tonight. He frustartes me because he is solid and a big kick and if he pulled his finger out he could be very handy.

The only other negative I had was Conca pulling out of 2 contests in the 2nd quarter. The 2nd one was shameful. Can't do that Reece.

Postives - Ty, Browne, Edwards, Rance, Houli and the class of Cotch, Martin & Lids.

Positives.

Hislop was actually alright.
Rance easily beat Brown
MARTINNNNNNN
Vickery causing headaches for Brisbane
Browne wasn't completely killed.

Negatives

Webberley in the forward line, what was that?
Farmer, is the next Dean Polo
Post and Riewoldt, not good enough..

Changes

OUT: Post, Farmer
In: Griff/Gourdis, Tuck/Whoever plays well in the burgers.

Would suggest the only player in danger of being dropped is Conca for a spell. McGuane was pretty poor again tonight but with our lack of fit key defenders he should be safe. We might go in unchanged, though I think Conca could use a rest.

I don't know what you guys were watching but I thought Webberley was dreadful. Every time he got the ball, I cringed. He pretty much just put the ball into Brisbane's hands. The most frustrating thing was that he has been so consistent in the VFL that we just HAD to give him a game. He either lacked confidence or is just unable to play top grade football. I would of much preferred Matthew White to play instead. He just wasted an important opportunity.

Didn't see Webbs turn it over at all. Mainly cos I didn't seem him at all...

But turnovers weren't his problem. Will play better next week. Not a long term option though.

I think Miller should be dropped. Misses easy goals and drops simple marks. He and Hislop would be the only omissions IMO. Webberley and Post deserve another go.

i thought the forward line sounds pretty potent IMO. Roo, Tyrone, Miller, martin with nahas and king roving. *drools*

still a couple of passengers in the team. Post, Hislop, webberly. but then we can't create a gun side like geelong in 2 years, in the next couple when they start having to earn their spot, they might come good.

Agree I only saw one though. The one where he was going back and could have attempted the mark but instead almost ran out of the way and turned his back...Dimma should drop him for that to set the standard...was disgusting. Didn't think he was soft so I was surprised.

Re: Votes Vs Lions

I normally only do a 3-2-1 but I need to do 5 this week.

5. Vickery - Did it all, kicked goals as a forward, rucked in the middle and link man through the middle.
4. Martin - What a freak
3. Deledio - Incredibly damaging with his run off half back, split the game open repeatedly
2. Cotchin - 4 quarter effort, our best pure midfielder this year
1. Rance - Great job on Brown

Honourable mentions to Houli & Browne

Re: Votes Vs Lions

before you give houli any votes please re watch the game and see how many times he loses a one on one...... He simply is to soft. A outside player. Played lose. Looks good and does play the outside well.

3. Cotchin
2. Rance
1. Martin

Surprising Bazzar and the rest of the Browne hating crew aren't in here saying the kid a massive dud, should never play again, etc etc. Competed very well tonight I thought. A lot better around the ground than Graham and will get better with experience. Got lots of praise from the commentators and rightly so. Shame Miller rucked so much against Leuenberger (got slaughtered) and boosted his stats. Browne will keep his spot. Good long-term prospect.

+2. We need to maintain a high standard in terms of determination and guts. It's what has been keeping us going this season. king has made a career out of it. Perhaps conca has been copping it too much in his first season. Might need a couple of weeks at coburg for some confidence and rest.
