We're shit, lets face the facts here no amount of barracking is going to get us over the line against the Dockers ( hating their dominance ) but signs are there not all is lost in the medium term I believe. We have good rucks coming through and decent tall forwards, need some luck next weekend because I'm so sick of the cockiness of the purple supporters irl.

Negaitves

Lecca looks miles off what he used to be in front of goal.
This might sound odd but I reckon the busted arm is affecting his drop of the ball

He's missing a lot right of the target

Just an opinion

Ok positives

Lycett and McGovern 6 goals between them.........4 weeks ago that's six goals we wouldn't have had

Rosa and Hurn ..he's been very good since his return and took some good marks under pressure

We had a very similar game v Carlton led easily and got run down ...I suspect if we had Lycett and McGovern in this form that day we wouldn't have lost that game

Negatives ....players not wanting to take the shot on goal from good positions and making stupid passes

Me too

92-94-06

I text this to my freo mates after each loss and I don't respond after that

If they do hassle me ...I send back 2014 freo choke in gf

Then be quiet

They have the midfield dominance over us

I suspect they will try to press up and then slingshot leaving ballentyne one out running forward .....I reckon play a loose man and try to clog up space ...we can't beat freo by trying to outgun them ....

Negative: hutchings sucks by foot.

I like cripps but his field kicking is atrocious.

Positive. Gov looks great and hurn was excellent.. His kicking is second to none
You hear people say Suckling or McKenzie are the best. They are nowhere near Hurn in terms of accuracy over short or long distances. Being left footers with a soccer kicking technique means they can often grub the ball along the deck or float them (Hodge does this a lot too). Hurns technique is almost perfect.

plus= a win
4 points
the governor
lycett
NN playing into form
we barely have a midfield

minus= cripps (a bum day)
an ugly win by 4 goals against a bottom side.
unsettled-general lack of player telepathy?
freo then sydney

the bermuda triangle =
we're an unsettled team playing ugly most of the time, but every now and again possibly depending on who we match up against, which players are in or out, or the coaching, we suddenly gel and look like a real team.but you never know which team comes to play?
some coaching decisions are mysteries, making things even more confusing. persisting with 3 talls was one. bennell as sub was another?
from game to game different players rise up, and others fall away..few are consistently good...rosa..................................hurn......................................................priddis. (;
the players seem to be buy into simmos plan, and mention a longterm view, with more consistency happening in next half season. we can only hope.

Negatives - We are just an average team. I just wasn't excited in this game at all and it was pretty close.

We won't get near the dockers next week.

Positives
  • Gov
  • Lycett
  • Hurn
  • Mackenzie once again dominates Riewoldt.
  • Lecras had 16 contested possessions so he obviously isn't afraid of breaking his arm again.
Negatives
  • The big one for me is the "unselfishness" of our forwards. Kennedy, Lecras both giving off balls to each other under pressure rather than taking the shot. Also in the last quarter there was a loose ball in our fwd50 with Kennedy, Gov and a Saints defender. Kennedy was in front position and could've picked up the ball and run into goal. Instead he tried to shepherd the Saints player and ended up blocking McGovern, allowing the Saints player to gather and run off.
  • There didn't really seem to be any structure or solid game plan today. We were very panicky and we went long bomb, hot potato hand pass all day and got away with it. We can't do that against good times, we will get chopped.
  • I didn't really see NN jump as much as he has been in the previous 2 weeks. Didn't have a great game by his standards. Still won the ruck pretty easy. He still had 7 tackles (equal game high) so his pressure's still there.
  • Bennell as the sub was a bad move IMO. He could've really helped curb Billings' influence at the start.
  • Despite Rosa getting much of the ball, I swear his first instinct seems to be to slam it on the boot and get a nice high ball. Still want him to work those Rosacopters out of his game.
  • Chris Masten giving a free away to the Saints when Gov was taking his shot. You could see it happening a mile away with the Saints players trying to get in our players' faces. Darling could've easily been the one giving away the free kick too. Need more discipline.

Positives;
A 5 goal win on the road is nothing to be sneezed at albeit against weak opposition.
Darling's best game for 8 weeks.
Continued development of McGovern and Lycett.
Very good in contested possessions after quarter time.
We won a final quarter. 'raaaayyy!

Negatives;
In general, too many unforced errors. Some real brainfarts inside F50.
Lack of discipline from Shuey (will cost him a week) and Masten.
Gaff's lack of physical presence is getting worse rather than better. Some of his squibbish efforts ended in shots at goal to the opposition.
Bennell as sub? WTF was Simpson thinking? The result, a first year small forward kicks 3 in the opening term.

positive - I actually feel like it's possible that someone will take a contested mark inside the forward 50 now

Negs:

Had this discussion with my dad after todays game - who would get a game at hawthorn on footskills alone

Was a very small group. We came up with ellis, hurn, shuey, masto, mcgov locks and shep, bennell in the squad but not best 22

That sucks - that sucks badly - our foot and handball skills are so shit its not funny - albeit priddis' skills were a lot better than usual yesterday you cant have priddis and hutchings in the same midfield.

You cant have that many spud kicks in this one team. I remember when i used to bemoan ben cousins as a pretty poor kick of the ball - he would be one of the best kicks second only to shuey in our mids now

The dockers will have a field day if we play like that next weekend.

How the **** do you drop lycett for cox this weekend - seriously how?

Positives

Turbo clunking marks - how long do you reckon they are going to give him third best tall - sheisse if he keeps clunking them in front of goal how long will he get 2nd best - and if these things happen darlo and kennedy get of the leash more - if we can improve f50 entries .........

Lycett

Rosa bog

Priddis kicking out of packs a lot shorter and seeming to hit targets - wont have as long next week so we will see

How good does our forward line look with shurn spearing wormburners in there
