Did you miss his key goalsquare punch in the backline in the last 15 seconds of the game??

He also had a goal assist and set up two other goals with key tackles and handballs.

Yep, Mayne is doing all the things expected of a key forward except kicking goals and providing a marking contest inside 50.

Your definition of "a marking contest" must be extraordinarily narrow.

Mayne has the highest number of goal assists for the team for this year. Yep, higher than Barlow, Mundy, Fyfe, Neale, Pav, Ballas or anyone else on the team.

He is also doing far, far more than Sylvia ever has this year.

Far, far more than that flog Sylvia.

Exactly!
I thought we covered this in the MB already...

Mayne is not a key forward.
Mayne provide zero pressure. Do you know what Mayne is ranked in tackles in the afl?! *facepalm*

Mayne being forced to play as a key forward due to our complete lack of options does not make him a key forward, measuring him up against key forward standards is pretty illogicial.

Since when has logic had anything to do with what pokers writes? Particularly when sylvia has anything to do with the discussion.

opps backfire. In case you didn't catch that thread (and i highly recommend you don't bother), I was poking fun at the crap argument used by the OP in a thread criticizing Mayne.

But this is exactly my point. We aren't being "forced" to play Mayne there at all. We do have options, we are electing not to play them. I like Mayne but he is not and never will be a key forward, and I don't understand why we continue to play him as one. There's certainly a spot in a forward line for a guy like Mayne, but not at the expense of a proper Centre Half Forward.

Every other team in the league plays a 2nd key tall, we play a guy there who is 188cm. And most other teams in the league have better scoring efficiency than us, so it's hard to argue that our way is working.

I'm not sure why you are obsessed with Sylvia. Colin Sylvia isn't a key forward either. I am arguing for Taberner, Apeness, Gumbleton or Bradley to be selected, or for McPharlin to play forward if you really want to throw one out there.

So just to make it clear for the droolers who have zero reading comprehension skills: I am not criticising Mayne. He is good at what he does, which is provide forward pressure and a leading link up target. I am criticising the decision of our match committee to only play 2-3 genuine forwards each week and rely on fast breaks from turnovers to score. It's been obvious all year that we need a tall target inside 50 to kick to in situations where defenders have a chance to get back, which is most of the time.

if that is not what you were doing, time you go back and evaluate your "communications" skill? then maybe the "droolers" can comprehend your posts better ... or you can just brick them

here's one

Pokerspiv your argument has merit and I agree with you about Mayne not being a key position forward and he gets the 3rd tall defender every game , but when you look at the replacements playing for Peel he is head and shoulders above anyone else in the squad . Of those you have named who has stood up and taken the game any game by the throat at Peel or when they have been in the league team NO ONE .
Look at the injury list as well and Kepler is injured after doing a hamie .
Taberner and Apeness had little to no impact and Gumbelton hasn't exactly set the world on fire . Mcpharlin will never play at CHF or FF again ditto for Johnson .
The only player to have an influence up forward has been Fyfe on a HFF when resting up forward , he is not a KPP .
Your argument would have been a lot stronger if you had suggested Silvagni at CHF because in the games he played there last year when Pavlich was injured were top class and if he is ready to go he should be first cab off the rank .
He will put in the hard yards , physical effort in marking contests and run the blocks for Pav to get space and prevent the 2nd defender jumping over or into Pav when he is trying to mark .

Silvagni is gonna have a rest compliments of the report he copped today

Sad, he would have been a solid in against Geebung or the Hawks. I guess he is in the Colin basket then...
