Alrite im peeved off but i will do my weekly assesments on the player performances and my suggestion for next week. I will put whether i liked their game or hated it next to their name then comment.

Joel Bowden- Avg. Very suprised to see him bench for most of the 3rd quarter but other than that just got his low 20 disposals but didnt have a good night in my books.

Nathan Brown- Good. Happy with his game cause he proved that he can kick goals with our style of play and at least give us hope.

Wayne Campbell- Good. Best game of the year so far i think in the way of clearances. He was pretty good at them and got his 22 disposals.

Mark Chaffey- Good. Great mark he took did everyone see it? Other than that his disposal was better than last week and gave us a bit of run but not as much as last year.

Mark Coughlan- Happy. Im happy with cogs game at least he showed some form of his last year when he was jack dyer medalist. He is still injured but his best game of the year so far IMO.

Aaron Fiora- Ok. Hard to some up his game. I thought he did alrite on haynes. Got a few lucky marks one he juggled with his feet and kicked a goal on the boundary fiora couldnt do anything about it but i wanna see fiora push up the ground more and run off haynes. Nice goal though.

Darren Gasper- Bad. Very disapointed. He is not in form so i dont know what to do with him. Graham kicked 4 before changing with hall. Then gasper played out of the bloody goal square the rest of the game what a pethetic move. Why not put zantuck in the forward line and gasper back or morrison forward and gasper back.

Ray Hall- Happy. Did his job. Took his name off dud to average player and kept graham to 2 goals. Very lucky goals though in my opinion. Better forawrd IMO

Brent Hartigan- Very Happy. My god this kids good. What did we get him at bloody pick 72 or something? Thats awesum. He is still 18 or so and gives us plenty of reason to look for the future. This kid doesnt stop trying and his balance and poise under pressure is getting better and suited to AFL level. I think he got 16 disposals in his 4th afl game thats not bad.

Chris Hyde- Average. Didnt see that much of young hyde. I think he might have to be dropped next week just to find the ball again. Like what we did with rodan.

Kane Johnson- Ok. Not that game i wanted kane johnson to play. He was heavily tagged all night and found it hard i hope he has a blinder next week vs the crows.

Andrew Kellaway- Ok. Clearly not a forward either. I dont get it why frawley plays gasper and kellaway forward when they are both AA backs. Why not play Morrison and hall up there? Or even zantuck?

Andrew Krakouer- Happy. Very nice game and graet skills. Showed some great poise under pressure and good disposal. Will be great in a few years when he gets really fit and puts a bit of muscle on.

Ben Marsh- Happy. For a backup ruckman Marsh did more than what vardy would of done last year so therefore im happy. Took a few good marks and yeh will only get better.

Shane Morrison- Ok. Presented well but a few kicks at his bootlaces wouldnt of helped his confidence. His 8th AFL game and still young and once again can only get better. I would of played him back just to see how he went for games in the future. I think he injured or was cramped during the game so was on the bench for a bit.

Chris Newman- Did ok. Started well and finished well just the middle period he didnt do much. I think he tagged joel corey who didnt really get touched at all. Question is do we bring in Fleming next week as he can shutdown mcleod? Was good tonight and by the way saints won yay.

Brad Ottens- Happy. I didnt see him punch it forawrd once and i saw marsh do it twice. But still ottens got his hands on teh ball and sometimes effective. Kicked 2 goals which is better. Still needs that mongrel in him that staff has

Kane Pettifer- Average. Didnt see much of him at all. Should of kicked that goal but other than that can only remember him taking a good contested mark and then later on trying to fly for one and gave away a free. Maybe a drop for next week.

Tommy Roach- Happy. love dis kid. Him and hartigan will form a good bond. I can just see it. Love his dancing feet and his ability to use both feet. I think he needs penetration in his kicking but he will get that when he puts on muscle. Very happy though

Jay Schultz- Ok. Didnt do that much really. I saw in the last quarter he played back and he did well. I can see him filling in the CHB possie. i would play him there the whole game next week.

Greg Tivendale- Happy. Very nice to see him getting that laser left foot on target for most of the night. Got 32 possies and nice work for him.

Ty Zantuck- Ok. Did alrite on kingsley i thought. No other comment.

Side for next week.

B: Zantuck Gasper Shultz
HB: Chaffey Hall Kellaway
C: Fiora Coughlan Hartigan
HF: Tivendale Morrison Krakouer
FF: Rodan Brown Roach
Foll: Ottens Johnson Campbell
Int: Marsh, Fleming, Newman, Bowden
Emg: Hyde, Tuck, Pettifer

In: Fleming, Rodan
Out: Hyde, Pettifer

Wrenny mate ... we got flogged by 50 points. You only have 1 or 2 players as having had bad games or something. Why dont you try about 12 and then youll have a better understanding of why we lost to the bottom team by 50 points.

Our big problem with richo out is our half forward line just can't take marks. This week and last week we were getting turnover after turnover as there was no one there to mark the bloody thing. Thats why we **** around with it and turn it over in the midfield. Need richo back so he can take some of the **** off Morro shoulders. He trys his hardest but when your one big target is a player thats only played 8 games your in trouble. Have a look at the game again and see how many times the ball made it to the half forward line and then got stolen and returned for a goal. Richo makes us kick long without him we chip it around while we wait for a target to present. The tigers are 4 to 6 goal better team when plays.

There are probably &frac12 a dozen players that did better then OK.

While Geelong were kicking them out of there arse a bit, especially early on, we did manage to get more possesion than them. I'm not sure of the final figures but I think it was about 30 more touches.

Now given that we got flogged by 8 goals against the bottom team, this means that we are probably the most inefficient side going around!

Firstly, I would not be bringing Fleming back in. I think that maybe his race is run. Given that Newman is the main tagger, he will probably get the job on McLeod.

I also think that Hyde's race is run too. I hope there are some midfielders putting upward pressure from Coburg to enforce a change.

We need to find players who are capable at the top level who can relieve the class onballers. Hyde isn't one of them.

In the end, I was disappointed with Campbell. His safety first attitude in defense is a disease that seems to spread all through the team.

How was that point that he rushed? Did he not lift his eyes at all? Ray Hall was all alone with no-one within 20 metres of him at the true CHB position. It would have been an easy pass right out in front of him; he would have been away and pumping it long forward.

Schulz didn't get much game time up forward. This was disapointing and probably has shot his confidence. Double that with Morrison spending so much time on the bench and you really wonder about the coach's faculties.

When you are playing without a dominant forward (ie Richo) all you want is your big forwards to provide a contest and bring the ball too ground where the likes of Krak, Brown and Rodan (oh yeah! he was back at Coburg) can work hard.

If the ball is kicked to a predictable spot EVERY time (ie 30m out from goal, directly in front) and a contest is provided there, then said clever small players know exactly where to run to every single time. Given there was no consistent structure there, this stategy could never ever work.

Which is why we struggled to kick goals and why we got flogged.

Techno Roach did OK. Very OK for his first game. Give him another 2 - 3 games then send him back to Coburg for a couple of weeks. He is too light to be a consistent AFL player though he does seem to have the class. Don't burn him just yet!

Hartigan should be due for a spell at Coburg. This kid will be a good long term Chaffey/Newman type player for us but he needs a spell.

He did some smart things but he also made a lot of mistakes. This would probably be the pressure showing on him. Again, don't burn him yet. Give him a few weeks to relax (relative term) at Coburg then bring him back in.

More than anything else, we need to play our best players in their best positions for as much as possible.

I was listening to 3AW throughout the game (mainly to listen to Terry Wallace). It was pointed out so often that it became a running joke that we had 2 of our class players on the bench AT ALL TIMES.

Now I understand the need for rotations as not even the fittest player in the comp can run in the middle for a whole game. This does not mean that they stilll cannot rest across a half forward flank or in a back pocket for 5 minutes at a time.

We are not Port Adelaide or Brisbane. We do not have the depth in the midfield to fill 2 teams. When we remove our best players and replace them with the likes of Hyde, then we are going to hurt.

Find a way of rotating without taking class off the field. Or make them fitter.

Players aside, another thing that I think is rotten is our work ethic. While I was critical of our run out of defence last week - which did improve this week - there was not sufficient run through the middle of the ground.

Without our dominant forward, a winning score was going to have to be kicked by the midfield. Take a look at the goals we kicked. Brown got 4 (all as a small forward), Gaspar got (a lucky) one, Otto got 2 which left precious little from the midfield pushing forward.

We have no semblance of stucture up forward. Geelong's 'talent' up forward was no better than ours but they played in a manner that was predictable to their midfield. For the most part, they had 4 players standing in the goal square who started leading once the ball started coming forward.

Whatever plans we had early on where shot by Schulz and Morro being dragged (and hello to TJ and his comments about the coach's lack of faith in the game plan.)

There was nothing wrong with our endeavour. We won a lot of the ball in the middle. For the most part, we were OK in running the ball out of defence. But we never had the structure in place to enable us to place any pressure on Geelong.

Another thing was that our initial matchups in defence sucked big time. Gaspar is struggling at them moment, but even when on the top of his game has stuggled against Ben Graham.

This is mainly because Graham is 198cm tall and probably 15 - 20 Kgs heavier than Gaspar.

Now consider than also in defence, we have Ray Hall who is only slightly shorter than Graham and only slightly lighter. He is also probably quicker off the mark. Given that Hall kept him to 2 goals after his hot start would suggest that this is sound.

That Gaspar picked up Graham to start with was a disgrace, especially coming from a coach that played as a Full Back.

If Gaspar had picked up Kingsley to start with and Hall on Graham, then Geelong may have only kicked 4 - 5 goals in the first quarter instead of 7 and it may have been a whole different ball game.

Instead, it was game over by quarter time.

The Tigers should be a 4 to 6 goal better side when he plays, but we still kick 10, 11, 12 regularly whether he does or not.

Biggest positive T. Roach by a mile. Hartigan was a goer again and Krakouer is growing in stature each game. Morrison would have been close to our best if some of the marks had stuck. Was unlucky tonight but looks set to take charge of CHF soon.

just watched the 5th qrt from what i can tell the players disposal was a joke especially in the first quarter, kicking it to opposition players on their own, ball being kicked and hardly travelling through the air, handballs completely missing team mates.

one thing i did notice in one of grahams goals was 3 richmond players went up to spoil and the whole lot fell over and graham got an easy crumbing goal while the 3 stooges laying sprawled out on the ground, it was a real good way to sum up that our players have no brains.

Roach, Schulz, Newman, Coughlan, Krakouer, Hartigan.. these blokes had second efforts. If they had made a mistake, they would go after the ball again. Smothers and one percent plays are what these guys did basically all night but the more experianced players didnt go in after the ball.

That was a positive but also a negative that the older, more experianced guys, didnt go after the footy for second efforts.

Constantly did Geelong have loose players out on the wings - even my sister pointed that out.

Notice when we did go down the middle (mostly because Tivendale, Coughlan and Fiora did so) that the play opened up. We were on fire early in the 3rd Quarter and even had a chance to come back. Ottens dropped a mark out on the fifty when Tivva speared one into him. After that Ottens was moved back into the ruck.. what the hell for?

People say our guys are worried about making mistakes, I think Danny can be put in the same boat. He's scared his job's gone so hes trying to play safe football.
