The main positive for me was the excellent performance of our backline, which I hope will continue to allow Post to play where he is meant to - in the forward line. We badly need a big body in there quickly. I really hope Griffiths can play.

There were plenty of positives.

We went in hard, especially Connors and Tambling who cop a lot for being soft. :thumbsu:
Cotchin was very good.
Post played forward and looked good, although he and Riewoldt need to start marking the ball.

Tambling is still soft and he shown that again last night.

Cotchin oozes talent and showed us abit yesterday, seems to have plenty of 'get out of jail free cards' when in heavy traffic.
The lockdow in the 2nd quarter was good to see, the new gameplan at work.
I like Post in the forward line, give him more time down there, Nahas needs to learn to crumb him.

People keep refering to Clarkson anf hawthorn and omparing us to them, thre are two huge differences , actually there are more i.e. Franklin and rioli.

Who is our Franklin? Who is our Rioli? and Who is our Hodge?
When Clarko took over the Hawks, Buddy hadn’t played a game, Cyril hadn’t been drafted, and Hodge as decent as he was, was still just a good hard nut half back flanker (Doing the Bowden and collecting heaps of loose balls)

Also in his first year as coach they only won 1 game out of the first 7, and 5 games for the entire 2005 year, and we beat them twice. His second year, lost 7 in the first half of the year.

What will Cotch and Martin be like in 3 years? How do we know Griffiths wont be the next Plugger, Gourdis might end up as one of the best CHB the club has seen. We still havnt seen Taylor, Who knows. I bet in 2005 Hawks in their wildest dreams wouldn’t have thought Buddy would be as good as he is, and Cyril was still 2 years away from being drafted. Anything is possible.

Patience and faith :)

Give me a ****ing break. Some people need to get over their bias against certain players. Tambling is often at the bottom of packs and putting his head over the ball. If you want to complain that he's not getting enough possessions, fine, but why make shit up just because you don't like the guy?

Interesting piece of advice I heard last night, come Round 22, watch the Round 1 match again and compare.

Maybe someone can give us a pretty graph at the end of season based on each season for key factors. Hopefully that will give us a reason to be happier.

I'm over Reiwoldt. I am wondering if he doesnt perform well this year than should we trade him?
Playig full forward for us is like trying to get a root in a nunnery. You just can't win. Riewoldt will be a super player in a better team. He is learning the very, very hard way at the moment and it may just be the making of him. Don't give up on him. The kid can play.

Kicking accuracy is letting the whole team down. The team is starting to 'gel' in some aspects.

I think the biggest headache for Hardwick is clearly the forward line. When we eventually get the ball down there, we only have 2 options it seemed. Riewoldt and Morton. There were stages when neither went up for the pack marks and Nahas had to, NAHAS!. Obviously Post was trialed last night, but he is still young. We need a player like Post or Polak to really take those contested pack marks and create opportunities for the small/medium forwards.

Interesting to read that Hardwick coached from the boundary too, which I didn't notice yesterday.

Hardwick unpredictably coached from the boundary line, saying it gave him direct access to his young charges.
"It's easier with our young guys to actually coach them better (from the bench rather than from the more elevated coaches' box)," he said.
"You can actually empower the guys a little bit more on the bench and send them on with some instructions and we thought it worked reasonably well."

After watching yesterday's press conference, the impression I got was that as soon as Griffiths, Astbury and Taylor (esp Griffiths) are ready they'll come straight in. As much as I like Nahas, he needs to lift his game, he could become very important for us.

last yr i stated nahas was to small and lacked the neccesary polish to keep on the list long term. yeah he performed a role for us last yr and will probably do so again this yr.
nothing has changed though, he lacks polish and is undersized. the sooner someone like hicks or roberts actually get up to speed the sooner we can offload nahas.

It was clear yesterday that our forward was gone, we had nothing up forward. It'll be interesting to see what Hardwick does this week with our forward line.

Will be replaced by Nason. Now he is a small who has the polish:thumbsu: 3 or 4 years and he will a gun mid for us.

I've seen him a few times, and Hicks isn't bigger than Nahas by any means and will always be undersized at AFL level. I don't know that we should get too excited by Roberts to be honest.

This time next year, I'd hope our forward 6 to be Griffiths, Astbury, Jack, Taylor, Morton and a mid. It has size, versatility, and TT and Morton have the ability to offer some magic.

Uh oh, we are in a lot of trouble aren't we? Understand your sentiment but thats a hell of alot of teenagers. We could add the bulk of Robin Nahas or Andrew Collins to that just to bulk it up.
Just like the last 17 years, it appears we'll continue to be a one dimensional atttack with Jack copping all the delivery instead of Richo!
Jack needs a big strong impact forward to help him, not another raw teenager.

I am waiting to see how long Damien stops ****ing around and cuts to the chase and introduces Taylor into the FL.
I am tipping his first priority is to get the numbers up on the inside 50s stat and when we have some kind of competitive number to work with in that dept, i would suggest he might introduce another lead up target to go with Post and JR.
Although i have to say, JR has to start getting busy and start offering himself as a target, instead of waiting for what aint gunna happen. You have to be pro active JR, get the aerobic capacity up and start running your man around and get a break. ;)

We had half as many inside 50s as the bulldogs. That suggests that we've got bigger headaches than the forward line.
Spot on Crum. Then you add to that how it was delivered inside our 50 and you migth be somewhere close to the real problem. Imagine for one second if Mitch and Jack had of been playing for the Dogs with that amount of opportunity and quality delivery.

would suggest that with the way JR goes about it atm, Rocket would have him in the 2s until he woke up and started to play like a HF should. ;)

Positives:

For the first three quarters we gave it to the Dogs the best we could before running out of legs.
McGuane was exceptional - not only 1 on 1, but rebounding from defence too.
Thursfield was really quite good on Hall.
Cotchin played his best game in Richmond colours.
Martin shows real class - and that goal in the third - wow.
Post really straightened us up - even if he wasn't quite as polished as we'd hope.
Jackson's gut running - was everywhere.

But a real negative from mine - Chris Newman's decision making. He's got a great left peg - why doesn't he try to use it more often - especially in the back half - clear it out rather than trying to out finesse the Bulldogs in their own Attacking 50.

Nahas was terrific last year. He will be better when was have some established talls in the forward line where he will receive plenty of crumbs.

We could add the bulk of Robin Nahas or Andrew Collins to that just to bulk it up.
If they are our bulk we are in trouble, how can you say that we can add bulk in Nahas when the simple fact is that it has become apparent that he is too small to compete properly at AFL level. At this stage he looks to be a VFL level player
