We saw that there wasn't much to get that excited about tonight. But it is the 2nd of Feb, so it doesn't really matter

Sam Jacobs showed that he is capable

Positives:

- A lot of passengers will be replaced by a lot of class when we play Richmond in Round 1
- Waite, O'hAilpin, Betts, Walker and Houlihan still to be added to our forward line mix
- Jacobs and Warnock looked promising
- Grigg played a reasonable game, should cement his spot in our best 22
- Robinson was easily our best forward and was providing a solid leading target
- Bower is a gun, has elevated his game again
- Yarran looked dangerous, just needs to work on his finishing

I loved the look of Henderson. No, he didn't put it together tonight, but he looked very gun-CHF-in-a-few-years like.

Bower looked freaky-awesome back there. He's the new Inspector Gadget.

Robinson showed plenty.

The new kids Lucas and Davies both touched it early and often.

Warnock didn't spontaneously combust.

We didn't try for more than one and a half quarters and almost won.

Agree with most of the comments already but I think Scotland is being rated harshly. Probably because of his two dropped sitters but apart from that I thought he was one of your best.

The biggest positive is the development of Bower, Thornton, Jamison will allow Waite, Henderson and Austin to play and rotate forward.

Or maybe we need to slit our wrists after a practice match?

Imagine how much the media and Essendon supporters would jizz if Bower played like that for the Bombers?

Pears couldn't even match Ashley Hansen on two long leads.

Bower looks a lot stronger through the core after he held his ground against Goodes.

where was simmo tonight? was he just rested? didnt hear anything about why he wasnt playing

Yep, Played a really good game. :thumbsu:

Yeah, was pretty good. Would still like to see him play through the middle more often though. Quite often runs to the wings/flanks and kicks out wide.

Seems to have some of the penetration on his kicks back. I think he may have been carrying some sort of groin injury last year. Looked slow and couldn't kick 40m. Tonight was much better.

These days you cannot get rid of players quick enough. I understand Hendo, Yarran and several others will be cut after tonight.
Yarran is homesick and at the airport...apparently

liked the way jr seemed to run the backline seemed to f**k up a few times, but who didn't, was more than happy with his game!

A slimmed down jacobs was much better around the ground although disposal again

browney was solid and more composed

saw bower but no dear in the headlights, grear game from him

a running jamo & more possession jamo?!

yarrans silk just not finishing

robbo had a blinder

Hendo led up well at times, but couldn't hold onto the pill. I suspect some nerves as I know he is a better mark than that. Kicked nicely from 45 out and had the distance easily.

Warnock - hitouts weren't so much a feature, but he'd have to be the best ruckman over 205cm at ground level. The first Q and a bit he was very clean off the deck and got a few clearances.

Robinson - anyone who knocks WH recruiting needs to keep this one in mind before they start the rant. He is a ripper and put some big hits on tonight, kicked a couple, and before he burnt out gave us a real spark, that apart from Judd, no-one else seemed to have.

Yarran - some very nice work off the deck and made his opponents look silly at times. Needs to start finishing or CP will start a thread on him.

Bower on Goodes - I'm surprised he was able to go with him around the ground all night. Didn't realise he had the tank. Nice job.

Davies looked likely early but faded out of the game after Q time.

Scotty made a couple of howlers but also got us into the game and will be better for the run.

Grigg in the first half was strong around the packs.

Honestly, I predicted a 75 - 50 scoreline our way, and had our disposal been a little tidier I think that would have been pretty close to the mark. We gave them 2-3 goals and probably cost ourselves 4-5.

Yep one of our best looked like the scotland of 2008

I think Scotland was judged very harshly last season. He missed the majority of the 2009 pre-season following groin surgery & it is a well known fact that players who miss big chunks of the pre-season struggle during the season proper.

Scotland looks fitter than he has for awhile & I think he could be another player who pushes forward to kick a couple of goals here & there, as he did tonight.

Last season he lost the fire in the belly early. Seems to be motivated this year and fit. But cost us with those errors tonight

Bear, I like that analysis!

I think the Swans looked good tonight, really really good. Clean on the counter, and found targets inside 50 very well.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing for them or a bad one, however. We had way more of the ball - at least it felt like that - some weekend statistician will fill me in I'm sure...

Scotland was good as he showed his experience and took it upon himself to make something happen.

Judd was good as he played his customary 'make up for someone else's mistake' role, but his disposal let him down at times.

Bower was great. Russell looks comfortable, really attacks it. Davies was pretty good considering he is a first year player. Lucas fumbled a bit but did a few really nice things. Jacobs was good, Warnock good early. Grigg was okay from what I saw. Jamison was good.

Oh and Kouta looked good sitting in the crowd.
