Loved Palmers game........can see why Harvey wants more from him defensively.....but in the second half i thought even his defensive work was great.

If he continues to gain confidence it will be a real bonus for us.

Many of our out of form plkayers looked better today. Johnson Crowley Roberton Pearce Crighton Mayne Looked better.

Confidence is only ever one game away.......now to do it again against tougher opposition

*Palmer getting back and looking good
*Johnson was better
*Mzungu looks the goods
*Way less passengers
*Team looked hungry and ran harder

Yeah it was only Port but it was fantastic to see our fringe players do so well. Palmer, Ibbo, Crighton and Lower were all very good. Not so convinced on Johnson though. I think he was the biggest beneficiary of Ports ineptness.

Does anyone else notice that the last couple of weeks Chrichton has started off really well in the first quarter and gathered a few touches. But then he drifts out of the game which may just indicate lack of fitness.

How was Fyfe's run down the wing???? Showed plenty of confidence and dash. Would of been great if he nailed the goal!

Best positive is that while Pav and Mundy were servicable the rest of the team were not passengers in this game.

De Boer is showing that he is gonna be an ultra important team player for the rest of his career.

Oh Yeah, and for GOD'S sake we need to re-sign Fyfe ASAP to keep him from GWS; just incase.

I think thats his major weakness. In almost every single WAFL game he gets a lot more possessions in the first half and drops off almost like clockwork in the second half.

Some critics of Crichton's ball use on here need to chill out. Crichton was at 75% efficiency. Sure thats 25% of disposals that didn't hit the target but Fyfe was at 53% and Pav 58%, both fluffed quite a few kicks as well. It happens.

Pav Did well in the Midfield and defence.

Still won with 25 available players.

Won very well despite some turnovers early on.

Half of our Squad were 1st, 2nd and 3rd year players and we still won.

I reckon the biggest positive is that there should be more than 25 fit players this week.

Apart from not converting all his goals in no way, shape or form has Mayne been out of form. He has been playing absolutely terrific football.

Yes I agree with you.

I was amazed when I heard media people saying he was in ordinary form, what the ...... !!!!?. I think the media were being muppets, not doing their own research, checking the facts.

Hate to bring you down in a 'positives' thread but:

1. Pav was OK in midfield but what I would call average to quite poor anytime had to do some genuine defending (1st 15 minutes aside which I've still not seen).

2. I wouldn't count on our availability list growing that much. Frodo didn't look too good at the end there and Sandi is a real worry. On top of that there is news of a couple of injuries out of the WAFL too to factor in (eg. Walters).

I'll give you the other two though.

Another positive, watching Richmond beat Essendon tonight. They were relentless and brilliant. Makes our effort with an undermanned team a couple of weeks ago look not so bad. Richmond have serious talent at both ends and a superb midfield.

We've won as many games at AAMI as we have at Subi - and we've won both our games at AAMI by bigger margins as well (2 at AAMI, 2 at Subi, 1 at the GABBA)

Good team effort and will do wonders to our confidence - especially individual players like Palmer, MJ, Crowley etc. who have been down on form and confidence lately

Rhys Palmer ..& hats off .. was very good.
Hopefully this is a the new Palmer , much like the Australian cricket team saw a new Steve Waugh after they dropped him.

Gold Coast have fared better at aami aswell

Richmond were crap. They got a rolled gold garbage ride from the umpires - and that thug Jake King will get what is coming his way soon enough. His head high off the ball behind the play hits were pathetic, truly dog acts that only Richmond (or Carlton) would tolerate.

Richmond were not only not brilliant, they were a dogs breakfast at clean skills and without multiple free kicks and 50s they wouldn't have even been close to what was a second rate Essendon side. Put Watson, Hocking and Hurley into that Essendon side, and trot out three half decent umpires who were prepared to be neutral onto the field, and Richmond would get thrashed.

They are a hugely over-rated side that consistently gets their way by flopping for frees and sea-gulling off the packs instead of going hard at the ball. Martin and Conca are the only players in the forward half who are prepared to go in hard without flopping for the free kick, and Foley and Newman are the only ones in the back half who don't feel the need to flop for frees. Reiwoldt flops and chucks a tanty every time he doesn't get his way.

Watch what happens when that joke of a side comes up against fully fit top sides.

Hard to tell from that game but there are certainly some positives.
Palmer! Great to see him running and backing himself. His decision making and disposal was as good as it's been since 2008.
MJ, best game for the year. Duff, Crowley, Broughton ditto.
Grover & McPharlin continue to do the job.
Chrighton, Roberton & Pearce showed a bit.
4 points & a bit of percentage!

Palmer was much improved - shows why he needs to be played in the midfield, and why we need to also play Lower in the guts.

MJ was very much improved, needs to play forward though I think.

Duff did well, as did Broughts in the second half, but lets face it neither was ever really put under pressure by Port. I would like to see both deliver repeat performances against St Kilda before I declare that they have turned the corner.

Roberton and Pearce both played well, and Tendai was good when he came on.

We shut the Port crowd up (hardly a crowd, 16,000 is just pathetic) and we coped fairly well with the swirling breeze when kicking for goal.

We kicked 21 goals for the first time in a fair while.

We kicked well when kicking for goal.

Fyfe's outstanding bouncing run was a highlight also - how good will he be when he is in his 20s??

Palmer was impressive.
MJ played his best game this year.
Lower is a star.
Mzungu looks the goods.
Crowley was also good in his tagging role.
Fyfe in AA form!!!

Good way to rebound :D

Agree with all of that - now we need to maintain it into the next 4 weeks...

What a difference a week makes hey?

Plenty of positives, although we have to keep in mind that was an extremely poor effort by Port, particularly in the first half. We can't expect to encounter that complete lack of pressure in many other games this year.

Fyfe = almost the best player in the team already.

For me the most positive aspect is that a lot of guys down on form seemed to kick up a gear today (thanks Port!!!):
- Lower, who had been on the verge of being dropped, played a cracker;
- Palmer, looks to have run back into some form
- Crowley, few brainfade bombs and got a lot of it
- Johnno looked okay
- Crichton used it well
- Broughton got a fair bit of the pill after being down on form most of the year
- Ditto for Duffman

De Boer really seems to have stepped it up a bit this year also. Getting more of the pill. Using it really well.

Very true. DePig was low profile but very effective.

My only worries are the injuries to Sandi and Mundy - but in a way they are also positives as we won without huge games from Mundy or 211.

Memories will not be able to post this week ;)

True that, but no doubt Pav and one or two of Mammaries troll aliases will find a way to post still...

Hopefully we will be able to go at least part of a week without threads calling for Harvey's sacking.

And if the wegirls lose we might even see an admission that there are two decent sides in WA...

Oh, and wasn't it great to see us playing up the corridor again instead of engaging in round the boundary circle work!??

Just adding to BPG's rant - Essendon are pretty undermanned too. Conversely, the Tigers have the least injuries in the league. It make a difference, don't kid yourself.

Now that's an analogy I hope plays out.

Please take this rubbish to the bay. Something I would expect from a Collingwood supporter.

The Tiges are playing with the same, if not more intensity than we did last year. They're earning their hard fought wins. What's more is that they'll guarantee to cause more upsets throughout the year. You can't serve that up, the way they're playing they can beat anyone on their day at the moment. Tonights game was incredible.

Palmer! I know it wasn't a quality opposition but the kid went back to the WAFL, performed first game and then came out and busted his guts.

Mzungu did some great things.

Mundy down and the kids stepped up.

MJ...I'll give him credit played a better game against a poor forward line...Needs to back it up next week, another week game and the knives deservedly should remain out.

I thought it was a good effort by the boys who have been under the heat lamp for a few weeks now.

I think MJ looked far better forward and I thought his endeavor was better than it has been for a number of weeks.

Palmer looked much more hungry and engaged throughout the entire match. If i had to point a negative out in his game it was in the 2nd qtr. He was standing just inside the 50m arc Pav had the ball and imo should've dished to Rhys to have the shot, but Pav took it upon himself to pull the trigger (like any good captain/ notable goal kicker has the license to do) and unfortunately missed... Rhys was quite peeved and had the hands on hips and steely glare at Pav. Now Im not saying its a bad thing that Rhys was pissed that Pav didn't pass it to him to have the easier of the two shots but it just didnt look good.
I am all for demanding more from one another and the likes, and I think Pav had every right to take the shot, but Rhys just needs to be mindful that he hasn't been the most reliable shot on goal thru his career and Pav with the ball in his hand 50m out has a far greater chance of kicking the goal than Palmer atm.

Positives- a great return to form by Rhys Palmer and Tendai playing his first quarter of AFL football were my favorite highlights. Better games by Duffman, Johnson and Creepy were also positives, as well as Nick Lower's performance against his old side.

I know it was only Port and we did lack a little pace today, especially with some of our decision making, but a win on the road is great for confidence building.

Negatives - David Mundy was a bit down today. Stephen Hill, something is wrong there.

And Lurch getting "turf toe."

For me - Crowley - great game some wonderful link up play

Palmer - Wonderful to see him step up

Mayne - Provided some great leads and work his ass off

I must disagree with most people about Johnson though, I was still disappointed with his game, he played marginally better, but with his talent and how he finished last year his effort yesterday was poor, it was just better than the crap he has given so far this year, but still poor - maybe 40% rather than the 33% we have been getting. He still needs to keep improving if he wants to stay in the team when the likes of Snos, and Mora come back

Just can't agree with this sorry Sammy, Pav's accuracy has been god-awful this year, even Palmer has been better than Pav. Pav need to give that one to Palmer or to Mayne, who was also free. Very poor by Pav, sadly not the first selfish play of his for the year.

Agree that MJ needs to keep improving, but I do think we need to also give him credit when he plays a solid game, which he did today for the first time this season.

MJ was better than useless, but don't kid yourself, he wouldn't get a game with any other club (bar Port & GC) based on yesterdays performance.

Crowley, Lower and Palmer were the positives for me.
