AND NEGATIVES:

Couldn't see a thread on this.

Positives:

Rance: Easily our best player and is fast become our most valuable player. With help from Grimes, Newman and Moore when fit, our backline will cement itself around Alby.

Edwards: Easily his best game to date for the RFC. It was only him, and Robbie Nahas who were ballsy enough to take the game on and play on, breaking lines.

Deledio: Towelled up Embley today. Had 31 possessions and kicked a beautiful goal that shows us why he should play as a wingman, or as a high Half Forward.

Miller: Say what you want about the bloke, he did his job today. His marking was superb today and should really have had 3-4 goals. Played his role much better than Griffiths at this stage, and deserves his place. He actually ran hard and chased players, something the rest of the team should take an example from.

Tuck: This game highlights how many games we could have won when we had him in the middle. His clearance work and contested ball work are easily the best on the list.

Negatives:

Farmer and McGuane: Absolutely dumb footballers. McGuane is easily the worst player on our list, Farmer not too far behind him. Need to replace these guys as soon as possible.

Umpires: The main factor in the result being what it was. When we get r*ped by a difference of 12+ free kicks every single week, surely it is suspect. I cannot understand how we can be so undisciplined, and our opponents super disciplined. Protest at AFL HQ, who's with me?

Ruckman: We have got to throw everything we have at an established ruckman. Graham played reasonably after quarter time, but is still too slow.

Pressure: Our pressure is absolutely non existent. We do not shepperd, our tackles do not stick, and we do not chase. It is an indictment on our team when Brad Miller applies more pressure than our midfield.

Sums up the general attitude of some on here :p.

Whilst I like the idea, why did you include your negatives in the thread entitled - Review: Positives. I agree with what you've said but it'll just give people an excuse to bitch in this thread as well.

- I thought Lids was great, whether he's being wasted off the HBF is still a question but he's playing good footy.

- Rance is showing great signs that we'll have a defence to build around with him, Moore, Grimes and Batchelor all playing in the same lineup

- Nahas I think is having a good season, his pressure is generally fairly good.

Yup. Glass was clamped down on him all day, he's one of the best defenders going around. But Jack still did some nice things, set up a goal or two, at least made a contest and provided a target, finished with 4 himself. :thumbsu:

Good effort from Jack. Can consider himself unlucky not to get a few shots at goal from frees, Glass is a gun but a cronic scragger and some how gets away with it.

Edwards was just as bad as Farmer.

Rance is the biggest positive for the year, if only the others would follow in his footsteps.

Vickery shown a bit!!!!

I like Dea playing to get experience for the future
Dea didn't look out of place, but did have 4 kicked on him.

Rance- God I hope he gets his just reward on best and fairest night. What a lion hearted performer.
Deledio- just a cracking player though I agree forward of centre would be great.
Tuck- it's embarrassing.
Miller- We all know it's short term but if effort and work rate can be demonstrated to younger teammates then he's the man.
Jack- love that he didn't drop the bundle

Negatives.
Grigg- what must Tuck think?
Mcguane- holy shit.
Martin- He's kidding himself defensively
Farmer- Disgusts me

To be fair about Grigg, i really don't think he is suited to the half back role. His best games for us earlier in the year were when he was in the midfield. When Grimes and Moore come back, he should be put back in the guts, to do what he does best.

Being in Sydney I didn't get to see the game today but was Nahas good? I listened on the radio and was specifically listening for Nahas (dream team reasons) and to me he didn't seem like he was in a whole lot of the play, not that he did anything wrong, just not in the match too much to warrant a positive response.

Saw enough today to think there is plenty of upside to our team - Riewoldt, Vickery, Deledio, Nahas, Rance..... still a few to be delisted but with 2/3 of our best back six out I thought we hung in there pretty well for most of the game.

postives:

Tucky. should of played all year!! (rfc shpuld be ashamed)
rance was pretty good (just needs to eliminate some bad decisions)
Deledio

Negatives:

too many missed tackles

Brad johnson (one of the commentators) said after wce got a free kick. tucky was the only one to run to defence to help (but good on tucky)

I see the BIG PICTURE and I'm happy with it.
Losses like this in a development year don't bother me in the slightest!
Not expecting to make the 8 next year but realistic with where the youngsters are going. No shortcuts - All good! BTW It appears Hardwick, Benny and I are in the minority as we're happy with Reece Conca as he is school age!
Sweet Dreams Amigos - Off to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack indicated a few things that suggests a bag is just around the corner.
In the first half I thought Jack looked lame. Looked like he didn't seem to be able to get much more than a trot going and looked labored doing that. Came good after half time, but I wonder if he had a pain killing shot at half time. If nothing is wrong with him, he needs a good kick up the bum for his first half effort.

The developement in our youngsters is looking positive.
Rance, Dea, Grimes, Batchelor, Astbury, Gourdis in the backline.
Conca, Cotchin, Martin, Helbig in the midfield.
Vickary, Griffiths, up forward.
Post next year I expect to take the next step(only 20YO).

When Schulz was traded, I didnt care who we got in return.

I figured you get 'nothing' for 'nothing'.

But as seems to be the usual it ended up as 'something' for 'less than nothing'.

We are down an average of 2 frees per game - we're down about 40 over the whole year. The only 2 games we have really suffered were the Darwin game against Port and on Sunday. Mostly we are +/- 3-4 per game. We are not being screwed by the AFL - and the quicker we address the problem as to why free kicks are given away, the better.

What is interesting is the main culprits - Graham (undersized ruckman told to jump into his opponent - bound to give away a lot of frees), Jackson (needs discipline) Mcguane:rolleyes: and Grigg (how does that happen?!?!?). Our main ball players Deledio and Cotchin get a good run, KPFs Riewoldt, Rance, Vickery are about even.

Looking at last year, Jackson, McGuane and Graham were still bad, Rance was OK.

So it becomes a question, can we afford to carry Jackson, Grigg and McGuane while they give away so many frees? For all Rance looks a bit unco, his free kick ratio is pretty good for a defender. The problem with Rance is while he has a basically neutral free kick ratio, he is involved in a lot of free kicks. So far this year, Rance has been involved in 50 frees (26 for, 24 against), while Glass has only been involved in 25 (11 for 14 against). Almost all of the other main KPFs (Rutten, Fletcher, Roberts-Thompson, Morris, Dawson, Jamison etc) have been involved in much less 'free-kick' contests. I would prefer a KPF just to nullify the contest, rather than give away or earn a free every time. So Rance has to work on that. If he can't bring that number down, it's a worry.

Good players earn free kicks - bad players give them away.

Firstly it's good to see a thread that is not about how bad we are and how the world is ending. I thought yesterday's game was our best for 2 months (not that that is a huge accomplishment).

I liked the fact that some 'second tier' players showed a bit.

Glad OP mentioned Shane Edwards. We've all had a go at kicking the bloke so we should acknowledge when he puts in a good performance like yesterday. Broke the lines, ran and carried, disposal pretty good......

Even Thursfield (another who gets crucified on here) was pretty good. Strong marks in defence etc.

Still seeing overpossessing of the pill in defence but less often and also seeing less passes to a sitting duck which is good.

Good to see Dea in the team I hope he stays there for now.

Take away the 2 goals they were absolutely gifted in the 2nd quarter and maybe 1 or 2 of the others that were contentious and it's a 6-7 goal loss instead of 10 and that is easier to swallow. I still don't think it is ok to lose or to instill acceptance of losing but realistically it wasn't that bad. Defensive pressure was poor though and seriously needs to be addressed - IMO this is due to selection issues we are all familiar with.

Longer term, another preseason into Cotchin, Martin, Vickery, Conca, Batchelor, Grimes, Helbig, Browne, Nason, Nahas etc will make a huge difference in their ability to play out an entire game instead of 3 quarters like has happened so often this year.

Oh yeah and Deledio's snap from 50 was pretty noice too.

He did some nice things, read the ball well at times and tried for four quarters. He seemed to be all over the ground in patches.

Definitely played his role

Jack played a more free flowing & team oriented game. He was rewarded with his opportunities on arguably the best FB in the AFL.
Tuck was himself. Honest and hardworking clearance king. Stick that up ya jumper match committee.
Thursfield - much maligned had his best game in 2 years
Deledio played and beat Andrew Embley, who is in career best form the lest 3 weeks.
Miller played his role and created opportunities.

Best till last - Rance. Has put his hand up and demanded that the backline be built around him.

Special mention - Dimma at the press conference asking the tiger faithful to attend the next home game and help the umpires make proper decisions ;)

Big picture - Forget about the scoreboard, WCE were gifted several goals and the defense need a bit of maturity -but there's a lot to look forward to with a full list next season.

May have already been mentioned, but I'm certain that was the highest score kicked against WC at Subi this year. With only 34 inside 50's that's a fair effort considering WC pride themselves at home on just shutting teams down in a big way this year.
