Well:

1. Alex Silvagni - if only our other senior players played with his courage and desire.
2. Only two more games left in our season
3. I didn't get sledged for being positive tonight. And I was able to be positive for all of thirty five minutes too!
4. Surely Pav, Sandi, Fyfe, Mundy and anyone else with a niggle gets a rest - this means we get to see what the fringe players have to offer? Maybe now we will see Schammer get a farewell game?
5. Seppo and the Vic cheer squad - you guys and gals never gave up cheering when we did something good, and although that wasn't often, you kept the volume up loud, great effort.
6. Grover's 200 games - well done old chap, shame we turned on a stinker like that for a club veteran.
7. Hinkley had a chance to show his wares again, and no-one can say he hasn't had opportunities.
8. Silver showed he can play up forward as well as down back.

That's it from me. I suspect it will be a short thread this week...

I see you haven't got many takers for this thread.
One positive is that my dog didn't pee on my carpet like another supporters cat did on his.

Not to contaminate my own positives thread with reality or anything, but I thought he was poor tonight - didn't man up on Goldstein enough around the ground, and was out of position too often. Far from our worst though.

Sandilands had him for most of the time that I was watching.

I agree Sandi had Goldy for more of the game, but when he had him Zac didn't get near him much. It was more obvious at the ground - Zac was not positioning or sticking with Goldy well enough. That said, Zac's tapwork was good, and he will keep learning the positioning thing with more game time I hope.

Umm sorry but your wrong their mate. Goldstein was Sandi's man as Sandi is our number 1 ruckman and was taking the majority of the centre bounces. Plus Clarke had a better game then both Aaron and Goldstein. Zac was fantastic and him and SNOS are the two players who have actually committed to the games. Zac had 24 disposals, 12 marks, 13 hitouts and 5 tackles. For a young, skinny developing ruckman that is a brilliant effort. Not that I always follow Tony Shaw's commentary but he sang his praises and said he will be an All Australian ruckman one day and possibly the number 1 ruckman in the comp.

I don't think I have seen Zac under pressure once this year. When he has the ball he is always composed and has athletism to side step all the better midfielders in the comp. I was a little bit concerned about his development but he has blossomed this year and will be a best 22 regular.

I'd agree with the OP on most of that. Add:

1. Clarke will learn the craft of the game more as he goes, but I am so impressed with him. He actually showed some skills which most of the other players left at the hotel before the game.

2. Elvis smashed Pietre which we shouldn't underestemate is in ripping form - but was expected to do that as another poster stated.

3. SNOS needs to get another mention. His courage and determination - what a gun. Was murdered by the umps on the last knock he took too.

4. I know this is a strange one to some because he looked a bit average especially as the game went on, but put a few killos (not too much) on Pitt and a bit of experience in his legs, and I genuinely saw signs that he's got the goods.

5. Early in the game I thought we looked OK, You could see what a difference a fully fit Mundy/Barlow/Pav/Sandi combo would give us ... of course they all faded/conked out.

Mundy was excellent .
Clarke continues to develop. kicking let him down a bit, but jeepers he looks promising. LOL at those talking about trading him for a 17yo.
Silvagni was good...but shouldn't have been sent back on as he was clearly concussed. WTF is going on with our medicos?
Elvis beat Petrie.
Fyfe did some great things. not his best day, but at least looked dangerous.
Mayne is not playing well, but I was pleased with his effort. Pederson sprinted from full back to full forward to kick a goal, but at least Mayne chased him the whole way. there's a few guys in our forward line that will never do that.
Johnson wasn't too bad.
As others have said, the Melbourne based cheer squad gave 100%.

nEGATIVES : I'm over the excuses made for Ballantyne, Hill and Ibbotson - y does he have the kick in gig? he doesn't seem that good at it!

sorry forgot it was the positive thread.

I was pretty happy with the way Mundy and Barlow combined early in the game - it was only for lack of outside damage from our second stringers and out of formers that we didn't capitalize on that. actually you can tell there is something wrong strategy wise when these guys and Fyfe can do brilliant plays and then turn the ball over in the next minute - it reeks of not knowing what the game plan is....

McPharlin and Silvagni were good. Zac Clarke had a very good game and Sandilands were solid.

1. Mcpharlin contiunes AA credentials
2. Silvagni courage
3. Clarke growing into the role, did some good work around the ground at times
4. Pitt = game time
5. having Mundy and Barlow in the same team, can see both are AA quality players when they get going

That was basically in my 'positives' - overall I think we actually demonstrated some fundamentals that show that we have quality in our team, but the machine isn't quite running right for all sorts of reasons including (but not only) the injury/underdone issue. But no doubt a positive is that the raw goods are there AFAIC.

Fyfe is just all class.

Agreed. I have seen this more than a few times now this year. Fyfe will go up and take a magnificent mark but then quickly plays on and coughs it up. Fyfe quickly handballs it away to either nobody, an opposition player or he misses one of our own players. I'm not sure what's going on here but I'm guessing it's because everyone is so damn confused with our game plan, like you said.

Anyway...

The biggest positives of the night were definitely Silvagni and Clarke. These guys have been our heart and soul during the past month or so and without them we'd be more stuffed than we are right now. Suban's rage at the umpire giving away a 50 was actually pleasant. Good to see someone else care. Also well done to McPharlin as per usual.
