POSITIVES:
Best game by Mayne for ages - very impressive tonight and comfortably our best player I thought.
Clancee really starting to show he belongs.
Loving the way our backline is working - Well done to all of them, including regular whipping boys Ibbo, Johnno and Zac Dawson. Zac is 2012's whipping boy even though he's been very good in almost every game (the venom and poison he attracts is baffling - Silvagni will come in soon I think, but it's not as if he's been demanding inclusion with dominant performances in the WAFL).
deBoer was lively up forward
Mzungu continued his fine season.
Mundy improved a bit (hopefully he gets better as his fitness improves) .
Zac Clarke hasn't really put a full game together this season, but again he showed regular flashes of brilliance and he looks capable of becoming a very damaging player.
Lachie Neale in his first full game was, (unlike several of our other mids) lively and energetic (but dreadfully one sided - seemingly can't kick with his left foot -hope he can work and improve that).
Liked Roberton's contribution too.
AND WE GOT THE 4 POINTS.

Less impressed tonight with Mick Barlow, who needs to get to more contests and make his possessions meaningful. And Ballas had a very mediocre game IMO.

I know he lacks a little match fitness but thought Mundy was disappointing. Haven't seen replays but he seemed even more laconic than usual.

Thought Ibbo had his best game for a very long time, Spurrs effort in the second half was very good for his first game.

We got 4 points so move on to next week.

Lachie roving that ball at full pace on the half forward flank was just about the best thing I've seen a Freo player do all year.

We are in the 8 and tomorrows games won't change that.

Have to double check, but I'm pretty sure if Nth beat Wet Toast (unlikely I know) then they'll jump ahead of us.

EDIT: Sorry realised where in 7th at the moment, if Nth win will be sitting in 8th.

yeah I had a bit of a play with the predictor and we are a chance to jump a spot or two depending how next weeks games go, WC and ESS play and Gee and ADE play.

Felt very much like a loss, but biggest positive has to be we have 2 away wins in a row. Yeh it was 'only' GC, but it was in a state we have had little success in. I really like Clarke, Neale impressive too, thought Spurr stood up well under some pressure in the last.

He was reminding De Boer he'd squibbed it

You sure about that? Because it looked like Brown gave a cheap shove to Duffield over the boundary line, so de Boer pushed him for it and Brown tried to suck in a free kick.

I cannot believe the Suns actually pay and play Brown, got to be one of the worst players in the AFL, crunching packs doesn't make you a good player. Ridiculously over payed and Hawthorn loss nothing and gained a draft pick for him, massive win for the hawks there.

I thought Brown was letting de Boer know he had squibbed too. Don't like Brown or that kind of thing, but de Boer redeemed himself, and perhaps Brown deserves some of the credit with that little acting stint. Brown is a player looking like his career is pretty much over, so maybe he can go into Reverse Motivational Speaking Tours in the near future.

Zac Dawson says hi!

I think the criticism against De Boer for squibbing that marking contest are a bit unfair considering he was involved in Bock's broken leg contest.

Surely that would put you off for a bit.

We've never been this hard to score against and it's keeping us in games. There's enough positives with the guys who weren't out there last night to think Freo may still be able to come up with a working combination for scoring, and there's every chance we'll still be in the 8 when that happens.

1. We won
2. Mayne's performance was his best this season by far. Led strong, was confident in his marking
3. De Boer's kicking. Nailed 2 set shots and his field kicking is getting better
4. Found a way to win despite playing lethargic and lazy for 85% of the game
5. We have the 4 points
6. Pearce was fantastic the whole game and kept going while others were lazy and/or soft

From Lyons comments in this article http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/134962/default.aspx

"They had nine stoppage goals … we haven't had one kicked against us all year," Lyon said.

"There are some real holes there, which we can tighten up, but it was just inconsistent effort".

"We go away with some really big lessons from this game as a football club about not being an if - if we turn up and if we get effort.

"We want to be an every minute and an every moment and an every quarter kind of team."

He knows our effort was piss poor, will hopefully tear strips off the players and they come out fired up next game.

We have been poor all season in 1st quarters so im hoping bookies know about it and a fired up freo team gets me some $$$.

We are being conditioned to play a brand of football so prevalent in the finals.

Congested, contested finals type football.

Mayne was sensational.
I promised I wouldn't criticise DeBoer again so i won't mention he squibbed a contest big time.
Really liked Clarke's game. Broughton was good.
Thought Ballantyne played well in the midfield (I'll try and forget about the ridiculous 50 m penalty he gave away). Johnson played another good game. Dawson was good (yes this is a serious post). Mundy is getting better each week and Pav pulled us out of the fire when he went into the midfield. Neale looks like he is coming on.
Kicking appeared better overall. Crowley missed targets by foot (probably getting tired). Pearce missed targets by hand ++ (probably mentally fatigued).
Overall, if we weren't playing against a bunch of kids I would have been quite happy.

Is this a serious post

how is it that people who spend time on an AFL board, who clearly watch and support the fremantle football club, can not see past the odd clanger to see all the good work that gets done, fyfe is afforded that luxury, why not Zac?

those saying that dawson is overpair.... he is on the league average!

those saying he gets beaten week in and week out... the most goals he has had kicked on him this year is 2!

He leads our team for 1%'s

It beggars belief and borders on embarrasing..... we have one good area on the ground... our defence, dawson is a big part of that.... and some how, whilst dawson has been aparently stinking it up at afl level.... silvagni has grown another foot, can kick the ball accurately over 150 meters and can use mental telepathy to ensure that the likes of franklin dont get near the ball :o

Mayne played a great game.

Don't remember seeing the De Boer squibbed contest. What happened? Pretty out of character from a guy that generally launches himself head-first at the ball any chance he gets. He broke Bock's leg by letting him kick him in the guts, and copped a fair whack at the same time. Maybe he did squib a contest (would love to see the vision) but he's one of our gutsiest players (except when kicking for goal maybe).

Though De Boer also played really well. Good to see him kick a few.

Clarke showed flashes of brilliance, and is frighteningly quick and mobile for a big bloke. Don't know if anyone else has noticed, but he's usually also a very solid field kick.

MJ was composed and clever, and rarely lost a contest (if at all) the whole day. Neale did some good things, but drifted in and out of the game. Could be a conditioning thing with running out a whole game.

Roberton did some really good stuff. A couple of loopy kicks but generally very good, and a brilliant goal from outside 50. After that performance it'd be hard to omit him... played a good game.

I think Fyfe will be a bigger loss than I'd thought. We were generally pretty fumbly, and not clean at all around stoppages and when the ball hit the deck. Only positive I can think of there is that despite a pretty poor game midfield we managed to get away with a win.

Spurr had a solid (but not spectacular) debut.

We got the four points, and except for Hilly's cork... no injuries.

Oh dear, you didn't see the irony in your post then, shame. I found it an extraordinary comment considering your constant villification of Mzungu/Pearce/Johnson/McPhee/De boer/Mayne, guys who've been very good this year but who you refuse to give credit to even when they play an obviously good game.
