plus we haven't really hit our straps yet..

This is my biggest positive. We're "winning ugly" so to speak. Played better offensively this week, not counting the beginning of the game and there looks to be a lot of improvement to come. When we start clicking, rather than grinding, we could be scary.

Wish Mayne would've stayed out of that. Just about the only thing I wish Chris would have done differently in that game.

Hilly got a clean grab on the ball though didn't he? Just dropped it.

he needs to be playing as a forward pocket, not as a midfielder

There we go. That's what it really is I reckon, more so than any niggle related thing.

I think it's more about being dragged out of his comfort zone, and trying to contribute in a position that he hasn't played before. Look at how MJ and McPhee are playing this year... polar opposites from Balla's form this year compared to last.

Take a bloke and play him in a spot that he can play, and give him some time to work into form and he'll usually shine. Not everyone can do a Fyfe or a Mundy and go straight into the midfield from another spot (and Fyfe was already a mid in early juniors).

Balla needs to go back down mainly into the forward line for a few weeks, with brief spells in the midfield, to get his confidence back. The game against Port when he had that shot on goal, didn't look like missing. De Boer and Mayne have done a great job in kicking goals a couple of weeks in a row now, but Balla in the forward line would turn that from a solid forward line into a dangerous one. Especially with the form that Clarke and Pav are starting to work into.
