Speaking of stats, Watson on the boundary line at etihad on th weekend in the last quarter " Here's a stat... In the last 6 minutes Freo has kicked 5 goals and North Melbourne hasn't registered a kick.."

Watson was gushing over our performance for most of the 2nd half. He's usually a pretty straight talker, so I take his comments seriously.

I'm worried still. Pavlich and Macca are still aging and we have yet to find even remotely suitable replacements. In that this regard, selecting Pitt @ 10 might turn out to be a disaster. We needed to get that pick right-it remains to be seen if he will even make it, certainly the signs are not good.

Eh? We selected Pitt at 20.

Unless you meant 10 as in the year 2010.

Get Kirky to take him under his wing.

From the 109 tram:

Sandi: monstered Goldstein (whom was talked up in the Melbourne papers today, with reason). Sandi is a weapon.

De Boer: fearless, consistent, kamikaze soldier. Same applies to Pearce and to a lesser extent, Mzungu

Fyfe, Hill, Mundy: class, awareness and damage -- and Barlow to a lesser extent.

Our defense: solidarity -- Politburo-style -- ruthless and organised. Kudos to acting capain McPharlin, a gem, who's fast securing himself in Freo folklore.

Melbourne based Freo supporters: we've been through too much sh@t that this win, and finals, is such a wonderful thing.

And finally, you guys: being a Freo supporter is like piloting a Blackhwak over Afghanistan. Enjoy the wins, back our boys, soak it up.

Deboer - heart and sole

I may sound arrogant but with a good strong pre-season next year we will be unstoppable. The improvements made in the second half of the season if peformed over a full 2013 will give us a good chance of a top 4 finish.

I think we've earned the right to be a little bit arrogant. Before I get shot down here, I have at least 2 Carlton supporter mates at work who are already crowing about their prospects under Malthouse. I'm just saying we've all seen some pretty hard times with this club and it's nice to get a chance to bask for once.

The 2008 Draft
Pick 3 Stephen Hill - 22 kicks, 6 handballs,
Pick 21 Hayden Ballantyne - 15 kicks, 8 handballs, 4 goals, 2 behinds
Pick 24 Nic Sub-an - 5 kicks, 3 handballs, 2 goals, 1 behind
Pick 37 Zac Clarke - 5 kicks, 5 handballs, 7 tackles, 1 behind
Pick 53 Son-son Walters - 9 kicks, 2 handballs, 4 goals
Rookie Draft
Pick 19 Matt De Boer - 10 kicks, 13 handballs, 2 goals
Pick 48 Clancee Pearce - 19 kicks, 9 handballs, 9 marks
Pick 74 Greg Broughton injured
Total
85 kicks, 46 handballs, 34 marks, 12 goals, 5 behinds, 20 tackles, and 32 inside 50's

That is what I call an excellent post. Good work

A grand final appearance and I'll let go of my fears.

I thought Clarke showed a lot in regards to his potential and geez what a team we are with Sandi and a full strength midfield (less Mora of course) under his taps...

Be careful basking too much - we're still Fremantle.

3+ seasons of sustained success and I'll let go of my fears

Yep same here, but for the first time in Freo's history I truly believe that Freo have definite plans for success (short and long term) and the abilities to make them happen - the club is finally coming of age. Its like we were always pushing only to 50% of what was required to be successful, but over the course of this season, damn - you can really see and feel it all coming together.

Last year I sat down to watch the North game with that awful uncertainty that we might be humiliated, we were.
This year I sat down to watch the North game knowing we would be competitive and fight to the end. Wasn't sure we would win but I knew we were a chance.
Before the Richmond game I started to write, out of habit, a doom and gloom post about how this is exactly the sort of game we'd lost. I stopped when i realised it wasn't true anymore. I knew we would get the job done. We did.
Another pre-season with Ross, Kirk, Stone, Suma, Dodger, possibly a big name free agent, Morabito back, Neale, Crozier, Sheridan, Michie, Forster in the wings. We should kick some ass next year (not that there isn't a bit of ass still to be kicked this year). Not all coaches are equal. Ross is top shelf.

Yeah I'm quite positive about next season and look forward to the boys after a pre-season of refining the game plan that they now UNDERSTAND. Having a few extra tricks up their sleeve and all.

But I think truly eliminating all the demons of 'well thats just Freos luck' will take more than another season for me. I'm still half expecting a run of injuries or some major catastrophe to take place because 'that is Freo'

Its also about the club gaining the respect from opposition clubs and the whole footy community - that will take a few years, but it is starting. And then we shall see more "fairness" in media and a lot of other "benefits" that Freo seem to miss out on (eg more even consideration in fixturing, edit- fairness in mrp etc etc)

You mean like getting stitched up by the MRP before an important game like the Adelaide fixture ?

I let go of my fears the minute we signed Ross Lyon.

I think it was E Shed I was talking to at the very first preseason game when I said history would look back on poaching him as the greatest thing this club had every done, before I'd even seen us play a whole game under him.

It's like they say about man walking on the moon - I'll always remember where I was when I got the phone call telling me we'd signed Lyon.

Definitely the best thing that the club has ever done. This will be remembered in 10 years time as the season that everyone started to take Freo seriously :)

True, and maybe that's a part of my hesitation as well. Being more confident at the point the club consistently gets talked about as a reliable performer and not a basket case.

As others mentioned after this post - Lyon is the key to turning things around.

His hair is long, his shorts are short, and he has nary a wrinkle or stress line on his face. If only he knew how the ravages of time were going to treat him, would he smile with such abandon???

Of course, because he would know ('cause Kirky went back in time to tell him so) that one day he would coach the awesome force that is Fremantle Football Club.

Glad to see you happy Rosscoe Pekoe, now let's get a shot of you with the premiership cup to round out the family photo album...
