We have to make Johnson accountable so that may force to play whoever he is on top play deep.

It's not just Johnson we have to make accountable, it's a whole host of them. I'd expect them to continually take their chances and run off us, and whilst we have to ensure we make them pay back coming the other way, we can't let them stream off us in the fashion that they've been doing so up to date (last year included).

Tarrant - Scarlett

A probable battle, but my worry surrounds the fact that Tarrant will lead far and wide down the wings, dragging Scarlett away from the defensive 50.

Perhaps in the past we could have afforded to let him do so, but God knows how much we need Matty down there right now.

surely not all of kingsley, ottens, playfair, king, gardiner and mooney are going to play along with scarlett, egan and harley in defence

The pies r scarrred.

Very scared - and so they should be.

King and Otto both had good games last week.

Big H showed a bit.

Moons coming back and before his suspension was playing well

Tom.H is back.

Kingsley will be looking for form after a few lean weeks.

Yes, here's hoping but unfortunately looking and actually finding are two entirely different things.

Go CATS!!

last season didak killed us coz DJ forgot that the only foot he has is a left one and continually let him play on onto his left side. he will get towelled again unless he has cottoned on to this.
Didak is actually using his right foot this year and using it fine. He sometimes uses his right foot unnecessarily when in space and then sometimes he'll refuse to use it when he is under pressure and being corralled.

Maxwell is in disapointing form, but you underrate him. A very reliable tall defender who can also play small and has a bucket load of courage.

i was more taking the :D:D:D:D out of charlie gardiner than i was maxwell as a defender.

but they both have that really dopey look on their faces.

maxwell is a top bloke as im good mates with his sister!!! but the might of geelong will be too much for him and the rest of the magpies side. theres only one key match up.....

LING - BUCKLEY

LING - BUCKLEY

maxwell may be a top bloke but still looks dopey and will probably carve us up now that i have bagged him.

buckley to run ling into the ground. ling to be replaced by rooke who shows buckley how soft mr "figjam" is.

No way should we put Scarlett on Tarrant.
Tarrant is not that good.. I've even heard Collingwood supporters say that.

how i see it

kingsley leads from deep, presti will cut him out(well hopefully anyway!)

Ottens/King/Mooney, ie the resting ruckman will be picked up by wakelin, wakes is in good form!!

maxwell will take playfair

chapman ur most dangerous forward of late, clement to cut him right out of the game when he is up forward

ablett = lockyer, lockyer gave him a bath last year

s.johnson is the worry i reckon, heath shaw or lonie to go to him

up our end

cats have no match up for tarrant, he owns scarlett, harley cant go with him, egan will also struggle, perhaps milburn is the only option but that would be a huge win for the pies

harley should take rocca

egan v t.cloke

buckley when up forward will be taken by scarlo

didak perhaps hunt, as leon davis will be too quick for hunt & d.johnson will need to blaknet him out of the game

in the middle it is very even, pies have the edge for pace with quick runners like b.johnson, swan, holland, lonie...also have the clearance types in licca, burns & o'bree

cats very good in close, corey, bartel, ling, kelly, should be a cracking game

hopefully tazza & didak again turn it on to give the pies the points!!

We shouldnt bother turning up then. Put the 4 points down to the woods and ascend to the top of the table.

Cant wait for this one. Collingwood so confident- this will be sweet.

So cocky these filth supporters.
I'm going to enjoy Saturday night immensely.

We will run all over their mob who will be tired from a 6 day break + 9 hours on the plane.

what are you on about??

gave what i reckon will be likely match-ups

how that equates to confidence is beyond me

if you disagree with any match ups, or see any blatant mismatches why not comment??

will be a cracking game

Oh ok.
Either way Maxwell might be fired up as Geelong were thinking about taking him as a rookie a while ago and apparently told him pretty bluntly that he is no good and maybe VFL is his go after promising they'd let him train with them or something like that.

The most important match-ups for mine are:

1 - James Clement: This bloke is one of the best in the business. He can play on a small or tall generally beats his opponent. Not only that, he sets up countless plays out of the backline for the Pies. He doesn't really need much more of an introduction than that. I don't think it's a question of who he will play on, I think we should man him up. Kent would be a disastrous match up for him with dodgy hammy's.

Therefore, I nominate: Darren Milburn. The best utility in the competition, is capable of going forward, nullifying his opponent and kicking a small bag of goals. Not only that, but he makes his man accountable and can be moved (with success) to another man if he's getting beaten. My first choice.

2 - Alan Didak: I've refused to rate this bloke on countless occasions, but he just continues to bob up with a bag here and there, and a few goal assists. Can play taller than his height, doesn't mind it a bit tough and has uncanny goal sense (like Dog Johnson). He carved us up last time, can't remember who we had on him, but our side was totally depleted.

My nomination: Jarad Rooke. Every Geelong supporter knows why.

3 - Josh Fraser: You can call him the worst number one pick ever if you like, but Josh has been playing some bloody good footy in the last month. We really need Ottens and King to fire if we're to win this game, I reckon. We need to give our midfielders first use of the ball from the centre, something we did last week against St Kilda. But there was no opposing ruck last week, so it will be a much different story. I'd like to see Mooney thrown in at some point, just to put the cat among the pigeons so to speak. Plus, he truly is a clearance King when he gets going.

More later.

Think both teams forward talls will struggle to have considerable impact based on the suitability of their opponents and possiblity of a wet night

It will come down to the midfield *shock horror* and which small forwards can bob up and kick some goals to get either team over the line - Chapman/Ablett/S Johnson our big worries vs Didak/Buckley/Davis and also Ricardi/Tenace Thomas/Caracella could have some influence as opportunists

If it's crap weather Scott Burns and Bartel will really come into things
