Josh Toy easily. He will play every single game this year for the GC (unless he is struck down by injury ofcourse) and he has done well over the pre-season. Has been talked up alot and I think he will make SC'ers a lot of money!

Yeah, I'm not too sure about that. Toy is a gun, but Bluey McKenna has stated many times that he will be rotating the youngsters throughout the year. A more mature body like Stanley seems assured of more game time, and I figure that they'll score about the same as each other...so Stanley for me...

...though I am tempted to put both in!

Stanely was a dud at Collingwood and don't think he is going to be any better at the Gold Coast, will get found out when the real stuff starts. Is going to be playing in the forward line where there will be limited opportunities, socred well last week I believe as he took 11 marks but I honestly don't see him doing that too often in the season proper. Remember that pre season games are more like VFL levels of intensity and I think that is about his standard. Toy is an extremely talented junior, suited to supercoach, similar game to Shannon Hurn. Will be playing in the backline where the ball is going to be in Gold Coast games more often than not and he is only going to get better as the year goes on. Id go Toy even if he doesn't play in round 1.

Is it just me or is there a shortage of midfield rookies? Ive got Swallow, Harris and Heppel on field but from there its starting to looking very thin. Atm ive got Bewick, Lock and chucked in Pittard cause I cant find anyone else. Anyone else having trouble filling their midfield bench?

Atley, Hibberd, Smith, Polec, Conca, Wallis, Libba, Contin, Beams, Martin, Bewick, Casboult, Curnow, Buckley, Fasolo,Christensen, Pittard, Gaff are a few names and I'm sure I've missed a few others as well.

Most of these guys will play and be perfectly suitable for your bench.

Well having three GC players means I need all my bench playing round 1. I have Hibberd in the backline and Bewick & Pittard in the mids. all the others youve named are gonna struggle for a round 1 berth with the exception of Polec who is too pricey
EDIT: Conca and Gaff also may sneak a place but again too pricey for an M9

Three GC (or any team for that matter) in the one position is madness. You'll have to look at restructuring your team.

not true at all all that matters is that they play and make money

It's a unnecessary risk. You'd be going into their two bye rounds without an emergency.

By all means pick up three after their byes but to do so at the start of the season is stupid.

Think outside the square!

It is NOT stupid at all...

There's a difference between thinking outside the square and just not being smart. Why would you have three gc rookies on the your bench in one position when you could have one (or at the very most two) and another couple from another clubs who will get games. This way you're still getting value AND you're avoiding the very real risk of pulling a donut.

I'm guessing anyone with 3 GC rookies in the same position will trade at least one out by their second bye. GC having the Rd 1 bye you're almost guaranteed to have cover for them. It's not risky for people doing this.

is prestia expected to get games? i have him in my fwd line, along with richardson, darling, tapscott and matera.

Is there anyone else I should replace him with?

I've also got iles in my mid bench. Which non gc player should I replace him with? I dont think atley will get many games will he?

I've also got stanley and toy on my def bench. I think they are pretty js?

Tossing up between Pittard and Irons for the last mid bench spot. Irons is cheaper and I've read that he will have better job security but I'm not sure. Atley and Libba are other options but I'm not sure either these guys are going to get many games.

I'm in the same boat, been tossing up between Atley and Libba for a while, it's hard because both teams probably have a few senior guys to come back in which might push them out. Im going to stick with Atley and Irons though, Port seem to like this Irons bloke and the fact that they have elevated him off the rookie list is a good sign that they plan to get him in the mix. Enough for his price to jump up and then we can all just move him on!

Here's my rookies. Includes the rookies i have starting. By rookie i mean under $200,000

Def: Otten, Duigan, (Coad, Toy, Hibberd(
Mid: Heppell, Liba (Swallow, Harris, Prestia)
Ruc: (Smith, M Bailey)
For: Gamble, Richardson (Matera, Tapscott, Darling)

Any recommended changes or better options? Disect them please!

I would spend a bit more on a back-up ruck. That position is going to haunt you throughout the year, but yeah some people are going that way and that's a matter of preference. Maybe consider Spencer ?

IMO you have too many West Coast Players. Pick one of of Coad or Toy. Bring in Lower for the other one.

You realise that Hibberd won't be playing Round 1, so I assuming you have faith in him playing throughout the year.

YOu have Swallow, Harris and Prestia in the midfield. All GC. That's two games this year where you won't have any emergency. What about if in the same week Libba or Heppell don't play. I would at least trade one of them out. I am assuming that you are keeping Prestia in because he is MPP. That's fine. Do you have a MPP Fwd/Mid in the Fwd Line ? If so, I would get rid of Harris for Atley, Gaff or Bewick.

Fowards: Spot on. IMO.

Def: Otten, Duigan, (Coad/Toy/Stanley, Lower, Hibberd)
Mid: Heppell, Liba (Swallow, Atley/Bewick/Gaff, Prestia)
Ruc: (Smith, M Bailey)
For: Gamble, Richardson (Matera, Tapscott, Darling) :thumbsu:

Bailey wont play, but then again not many rookie rucks seem a safe bet

wouldn't go with 3 GC players in the mids IMO defiantly pick harris, coin toss with the other two.

Think i'll stick with Hibberd, hopefully he'll get a game next week..

I need to pick two from Atley, Bewick and Libba..
Leaning towards Bewick and Libba

flip flopped on my mid rookies. Not really happy with them. Had conca in till the last second. Now currently have libba. i found his SC nab scores tempting....but im just not sure. Thinking of pulling the trigger on him. Savage, atley, bewick (put him in my DT side) are all possiblities, but very easy to find reasons not to select any. punted on libba but will probably have to trade someone out if curnow keeps up his form from last night. duno.

Magin from GC17 has been promoted for this weekends game, I had him in my team all pre season but took him out because I had no guarantee he'd be promoted.
