Prediction Possible pick swaps

The Suns have expressed a desire for three picks in this year’s top ten. The Dees could help them do this by swapping picks 3 & 8 for picks 2 & 15. Suns would then take 1, 3 & 8 to the draft. Dees would likely get Noah Anderson (2) and a shot a decent prospect at pick 15. Fisher McAsey perhaps as we are light on for key forward options, or Will Gould, Cody Weightman etc.

Obviously there’s that ‘best mates factor’ to consider between Rowell and Anderson but it’s a swap worth considering for both clubs.
Pretty worth consider.

Was more thinking with our picks 61, 64, 65 that the Demons could maybe move into the middle parts of the draft. If we could package these up for the Demons future third or something perhaps. I don't know. Just hoping Adrian Dodoro in all his mastery (or lack there of) can be creative with pick swaps.
Yeah, there could be as few as 62 picks total in this years draft. As mentioned, those picks are next to worthless.

Lions are interested in trading pick 34 for a future pick. And then still have one more pick than needed among 48, 52 and 55.

Gold Coast will laugh in Melbourne’s face.

Nah. I'm pretty sure we wanted 8 for a reason. We have our eye on one or two that won't be there at 15.

David Noble has said that we are open to trading our selections 16 & 21 to move up into the top 10-12 selections.

Possible options- Dockers pick 10, Hawks pick 11, Blues pick 9, Demons pick 8. Maybe if we throw in our 2020 1st we could move up even higher??

There are a few clubs who have more enticing selections to offer to move further up though eg. Cats 14 & 17, Power 12 & 18, Suns 15 & 20.
As a Port supporter I would do 12 for 16 & 21. Then I would offer the Cats 21 & 29 for 17. Maybe some later pick and future swaps to even things if needed.

End up going to the draft with 16, 17 & 18 then match a bid for Mead. Im probably being bias but ending up with 4 decent prospects adding to our 3 first rounders last year is a good core for a rebuild.

64 and 65 to the saints for 51 seems fair
Again, as per previous comments on this page, picks in the 60’s are worth sfa this year.

There are a few teams with projected picks in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s that are surplus to their requirements.

St Kilda could trade for two picks in the early 50’s from Brisbane for a late future second round pick or early future third round pick.

I don't think the Cats will be adding picks?

Its a good deal but we are already struggling to clear list spots for the 4 picks we have so we wouldnt do that deal. We are more likely to try and trade 17/24/36 for a higher pick this year or a future pick.

Correct. We might do say 17 and 24/36 for 12 though but we'd want to do it on draft night once we know whos there at that pick.

When are pre-draft lists finalised?
Can clubs then take whatever number of picks into the draft that will take their main list to 40?
Are clubs able to trade late picks for future picks before the draft if they can't take them to the draft due to list size?

I'm finding a lot of these pick-swapping discussions are irrelevant until the answer to these questions are known.

You only have a pick available to trade if you already have a list spot for that selection.

Now, you COULD be running a couple short on your list (most teams are), which might give you a pick you're not actually going to use. But they're not very meaningful picks.

Ah... the numbers don't even remotely work on Lions 16 & 21 for Port's 12

pick 12 = 1268pts vs pick 16 1067pts + pick 21 878pts = 1945pts.
That's a difference of 677pts or Rd2 pick no28. Not to mention pick 21 is near start of rd 2 which they say has trade premium due to split dates of draft.

Perhaps a trade could be more like
Port's Rd1 pick 12 1268pts + Future rd3 (about pick 49) 287pts = 1536
for
Lions Rd1 pick 16 1067pts + Rd2 pick 34 542pts = 1609

Port gets a 1st and 2nd rounder in this draft, Lions move slightly up and get back a rd3 2020 draft pick

Sure they do. But they also want three picks in the top ten. Instead of Rowell (1), Anderson (2) and say Weightman (15) ... they could instead opt for Rowell (1), Young (3) and Kemp (8).

Worth consideration.

You are severely underestimating the retention help of them taking 2 best mates imo.

Mate, it won’t be considered for one second. The AFL gave them the extra pick with the understanding it would be used to secure Rowell and Anderson.
