A few of our veterens are going to be retiring the end of this year. Apparently McIntish and Rivers are done (I've heard Rivers has a bad knee but I can't find online sources), can anyone confirm this about Rivers? I'm pretty sure I heard Enright will be going also possibly others too. Would've liked to see Enright go on longer as he could imo.

I can see quite a few deciding to hang up the boots as you mentioned Rivers Macintosh Enright Kelly Bartel Johnson plus two young bois all of sudden 8 new players to find not good for the club I can see Mackie, Stokes and Lonergan pushing 1 more year

I think to force the MC's hand - Stokes, Kelly and Mackie are must goes.

If we need 11 players in the draft we are consigning ourselves to a bottom 4 finish and also puts in to place going after Dangerfield would he come to the club, troubling times for the club in reality

don't forget the likes of Cowan, Menzel, Vardy, Simpson

happy times over the next few seasons

We can't lose 10 players. Who are we going to replace them with. Picks 110,111 and 112 from the draft.
Players gone are Hartman, McIntosh, 2 of Cowan Menzel Vardy and atleast 1 of Enright Johnson. That is 5 players already. You shouldn't lose more than that in a year.

How deep can we recruit into the national draft? Sounds like we are replacing 15 players this season if things go badly. Does anyone have any information of how well picks 100-160 have gone historically? I suspect not well!

Looking at last years draft it looks like teams started passing at 57, the 60 odd, then plenty in 70's. Final pick was 86? Though we got Cunico at 59 and he looked a handy player before getting hurt.

I wonder what Wells and company could do if they had to bring in several players. What great stories they would uncover. We might end up with a bunch of basketballers, cricket players, high jumpers and a myriad of punts.

im sure geelong isnt the first team to delist/retire 10 players in the one year

i wonder how many teams got rid of only 5 players last year? none??

2 free agents, 4 national draft picks, 1-2 desisted free agents = 7-8. Can't see any more retirements than that.

Hartman done. Then in order of likelihood (gut feel):

1. McIntosh
2. Enright
3. Rivers
4. Menzel
5. Kelly
6. Simpson
7. Cowan
8. Stokes
9. Johnson
10. Vardy
11. Bartel
12. Lonergan
13. Mackie

A lot of water to go under the bridge though. Any LTI to Simpson, Menzel, Vardy or Cowan is curtains. Hard to judge mindsets and physical willingness of veterans. Some we may want to stay may feel another season kicking around the bottom third of the ladder isn't that appealing.

I reckon we will more than likely see 5 or 6 of these guys this year and the same again next year, I understand that Enright may be considering one more year which would be good, particularly if Rivers retires.

If Boris stays - and I don't think he will - it just means another vet must go. We do need to turn a few over this year so they don't all go next year or the year after.

Carlton lost about 10 players last year - including a couple of rookies- but picked up a couple of players from GWS via trading out their first pick (7). It's not all about using picks >100- though I probably shouldn't have used Carlton as an example of how to do things.

Geelong are masters at shuffling their draft picks. We just need a handful of them for Wells to work his magic.

I actually wonder if Menzel will play any footy this year as it seems there has been no news on him, I love the guy's ability when fit but seriously if he isn't going to play then he has to go, we have carried all these injured players for far too long and its just clogging up list space when we could have fit backups available which is really hurting us this season.

Should free up a fair chunk of salary cap space.
Need to go hard at available free agents.

I think Rivers will go this year making way for Kolo, then Lonergan and Boris next year with the club hoping Delaney will recover from his foot injury.

My thoughts...

To retire: mcintosh, SJ, Kelly, enright, Hartman.

Delist: blease (don't think he has many fans in the MC), Cowan (same injury history as menzel but without showing any menzel-like talents. Perhaps to be re-rookied).

Trade: walker (just no room for him with Clark and Hawkins). Hopefully for Carlton/WB/Bris second pick. Probably pick 28-35.

I would keep menzel and vardy for their talents and if they are expected to be fit for 2016 preseason, why cut them now after all the hard work. I'd keep Simpson as backup in our rucks.

That's 8 players gone.

Wish list:

Get danger as a FA, trade in one of Carlisle or Henderson, upgrade luxford. Use 4 picks in the draft (3 mids and a medium pacey half forward flank).

I'm sorry, but owing to new BigFooty protocol, you apparently now need a medical degree to make such pronouncements.

I actually think it is quite tricky.

For me Kelly is the only definite.

Enright is definitely playing well enough to go on but with 300 games hopefully passed this year and little chance of a Premiership he may call time and go out while still playing superb football.

I have Bartel and Johnson on the same level. Still good enough to play on and key players for us, would be a bold call to chop them. Interestingly they are same age now as when Chapman was moved. Maybe one will be pushed and one kept?

Mackie I would not get rid of yet. Definitely keep.

Stokes I want to see more of in remainder of year before I judge.

Rivers and Lonergan should play on.

Macintosh and Simpson are gone by more delistings than retirements
