Good analogy about Vince. Hartlett had the world at his feet and he got told that so often he thought he didn't have to do the work. Great player and can still bring something but , like Vince , he needs to disappear into Melbourne where the only way to get noticed is to either go rogue or put his head down and play football
I think the problem with port's recruiting has been that although they have had plenty of early picks and have drafted and even traded for players with heaps of talent, they haven't recruited for competitive nature. That's something Hamish has placed a premium on and even though we don't have a single digit pick on our list we are in a good spot because we are a team of natural competitors. Port do seem to have a few petulant types that get the sooks on and disappear when it gets tough

For sure. 2 equal players of equal ability give me the one who wants the ball. Give me the player who is not satisfied with training in the required hours but the one who trains when he doesn't have to.

Give me the player who will look as if he doesn't have anything left to give make one more effort then another

So if all the smoke and mirrors about B Crouch are true, who would entertain a trade involving A Francis from the dons? I know it's his first year there but he's an SA Lad with massive potential and can play back and forward. Just a thought anyway...

Danger, Tippett and co have really dented the confidence of our supporters it seems. Let's just trade Jenkins, Crouch and anyone else that an interstate club is interested in because they will probably leave anyway /s
We'd have VB and Mackay left as marquee players... SIGN ME UP!!!

There has been some talk about port trading out certain players to improve their culture and improve their list demographic at the same time. Much like we tried to do in 2013 when we traded Bernie Vince.

Robbie Gray has even been mentioned. Would give my front teeth for 28 year old Gray in our premiership window but if he was offered up I assume he would move home to Victoria and find no shortage of suitors.

Hypothetical: what about Hartlett if he was offered up? He is mentioned often as a gold pass holder who coasts on his talent, much like Vince did. Would you take him? Could you see him turning it around or would a club switch in the same city not be a drastic enough change to shock him into gear? What would he be worth?
Hartlett won't leave port and is contracted!

This is the world the players asked for. Clubs are employers, fans are customers, the AO is our place of work, WH&S, CBA's etc etc.

I no longer feel a scrap of attachment to any player*, and long gone are the days of posters on walls and numbers on duffle coats. It's their profession and they don't want restraint on the ability to practice.

That's fine - but in this world a player is leaving until he's not, and that's how they have set up the industry. Good for them, but the change for the fan is loyalty only to the jumper, the person who fills it is just another number. If they stay well and good, if they go - next man up.

* maybe Rat:p

Now that Thommo has had a rest and the world didn't implode, I wouldn't be too surprised if he goes around again with a plan to play about 15 games. I think we'll upgrade 2 rookies and even if we were going to use our 4th rounder, we'd only need 5 spots in total. Jaensch, VB and Grigg seem certain, leaving only 2 more. Lowden is likely IMO. We would then only need Hendo to leave via FA or a fringe player for a pick or an upgrade and we've got our 5, leaving Thommo on the list. If Hendo stays or an extra rookie gets upgraded it might get a bit tricky. But we'd need only pass at round 4 to cover for one of those scenarios occurring.
Pretty close to what I was looking at only believe our 3rd and 4th round will be used on Jarman at this time he playing good enough to be a 2nd rounder.
Also reckon Thommo will get a rest for the Essendon game, gives him a good run to the finals
If Hendo and Shaw Leave we need to ensure Ramsey is re rookie listed.

Francis is a Bomber fan and like most young kids, I doubt you'd get them back to Adelaide once they've been in Melbourne.

No source or anything.

Freo will do anything to keep him. Hope I'm wrong though
I said it earlier in this thread and I'll say it again. Triple M in Melbourne said its 100% he's gone from Freo and they have very strong mail he's headed back to Adelaide.

I'd be happy with Neale. Not to the stage we should sell our farm, but he is an upgrade on a few of our midfielders.

Neale would be a dream pickup
Would compliment our midfield quite well, seeing his main strength is a bit of an Achilles heel for us right now.

Plus it'd see Wayne's-World melt.

It's a yes from me, but i wouldn't sell the farm.

He's an absolute gun. Would be a huge get for us. Fingers, toes and everything crossed that he's defo leaving and we land him. If we got him and both Crouch bros were healthy our midfield would be up there.
