He's a 1000x better kick…not that I wouldn't want Laird as well.

Saad could easily play up on a wing or simply replace Smith in the back lines (doesn't use his height anyway).

Is he though? Laird is a very good kick usually, IMO.

His defensive skills are much better, he's quick and would be a great get. We've been burnt by small forwards this year.

Laird is good defensively due to heart, effort and fantastic aerial ability for his size. Saad is also very good defensively but in a different manner which includes top end speed (he wouldn't have let Puopolo sprint away from him so easily).

But with ball in hand there is zero comparison. Laird is an average kick of the footy, minimal penetration and just throws it on the boot when under pressure. Saad's kicks are clinical and bullet like.

Given the pathetic defensive effort of our current midfield, if we got Saad I wouldn't mind Laird playing the current Douglas role of defensive mid. I reckon he would get more possessions and actually do the defensive job.

I know you're saying hypothetical but really, no way are Freo doing that deal, not a hope. They are in rebuild and won't be giving up what will likely be No1 pick for a player with 3-5 years left.

My thinking aswell, but apparently this idea has been doing the rounds on Twitter and other social media. Nothing solid obviously but where there's smoke there's fire. Or a smoke bomb...

Do GC need a particular player type in a trade (prob not after all their concessions)…they would just want picks for points…maybe a 3 way trade.
