I can't believe North are throwing away first rounders like this. It's almost Geelong like, North need to think about 5 years down the track, do they even have future list management planning.

They will be woeful in a few years as well as Geelong.
Anderson has 10+ years ahead of him. It's hardly throwing the future away if you think he is better than whoever you would get at 15 this year. We will all applaud them if Anderson plays 200 games for them. I wouldn't give up our 13 for him myself though.

If Hawthorn end up with a pick before ours I'll be so mega pissed.... they lost Anderson and 2 draft picks and we lost Dangerfield! What kind of equalization is this?

Paladin does make a couple of valid points, about the rookie upgrade situation.
  • Neither of the media releases explicitly states that the player will be upgraded to the senior list.
  • There are precedents, albeit at other clubs (not Adelaide), for rookies to be given multi-year contracts while remaining on the rookie list.
That said, I still believe that both players will be upgraded, even if it means making only 2 "live" selections in the draft.

While it is not explicitly stated that they will be upgraded, it is implied. The club has never given a rookie a multi-year contract without upgrading them. As the Laird media release shows, the club does not always announce these things at the time - Laird's contract was announced in August, with confirmation of the upgrade coming in October.

The club made these decisions early - July for Kelly, August for ROB. Compare that with Ramsey, who hasn't yet been announced as being retained - he just wasn't on the list of delisted players.

You can play semantics all you like with the wording of those media releases, but at the end of the day it's almost certain that both players will be upgraded to the senior list.

Which is no different at all to the Kelly/ROB situation.

The October announcement would have coincided with the post-trading list lodgement. It's at this point that they have to lodge the paperwork indicating their intention to upgrade the players.

There is no reason to think that the club ever had any intention, other than upgrading them, just because it wasn't explicitly stated in the original media release.

North Melbourne giving up pick #15 for Anderson suggests two things: (1) They were very keen to get him and (2) Somebody else had made a reasonably high offer to force their hand. Maybe it was Carlton at #20 or Brisvegas with #17 or #21?

It also suggests that they're in desperation mode, wanting to win a flag before half their team retires.
It also suggests that they really don't rate the talent in this year's draft, given that they would prefer a player who can't make Hawthorn's team to pick #15.

And just like Port will, they will be at the AFL's door, cap in hand asking for handouts and priority picks. Disgraceful.

Well then, kiss goodnight yo your career Anderson...

North development of young recruits has been absolute dog shite the last few years. May never see the true Anderson at this rate.

15 is a lot to give up, but seriously disappointed we missed out on this bloke :(

Think it goes to show I'm not the only one that rated him that highly, give what Hawks were asking for and what north and other clubs were willing to give up.

North need to get a grip on reality. They’re not that good and most of the good players they do have are old. Unfortunately, they fell into a prelim last year (and got deservedly smashed), and this year on the back of an injury depleted Swans outfit, and now they still think they’re flag fancies. Go North!!!!!
