And I think as a supposed non destination club with salary cap space we will benefit...
Would much rather be a destination club that can palm off its Mackay mistakes to other desperate clubs....
This is true. But it only takes a Kennedy and McGlynn trade to be the catalyst to becoming a destination club in the future.

Why? He is an absolute ball magnet, clearance king, similar skills his body will be beastly just like Thommo.

His ceiling is Thommo he may or may not reach that level but your assertion Crouch has a much lower ceiling than Thompson is ridiculous considering his exposed form.
His ceiling is closer to Tyson Edwards. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, given that Edwards wasn't an inside mid, but he's the closest I can come up with to make my point. Edwards was a really good player, but he was never in the running for the B&F, nor was he a Brownlow Medal contender (Thompson finished equal 4th in 2012), nor was he ever in contention for AA selection.

I'm expecting Crouch to be a good player, who has a long and health AFL career. He's just never going to be in that top echelon, the way that Thompson was at his peak in 2011/2012.

I think the point is at the same age you could copy paste exactly what you're saying about Matt into a conversation about Scott v Riccuito. You cannot know how Matt will develop already at such a young age.
And I wouldn't say that Thompson was ever as good as Ricciuto, even with the benefit of hindsight.

Roo >>>>>> Thompson >>>>>> M Crouch

You can not predict the future. His stats don't lie; they are superior at the same age.

Geez he is only 20

Thommo stats at 20 were not half as good as Crouches. You love writing off players before they turn 24 dont you. If they havent played 100 games by 24 then they cant play. Its getting tiresome hearing the same old dribble coming out of your mouth.

awfully early in his career to be making those sort of outlandish claims. I would have said the same about thommo in 2004/05

Get used to those weird deals that Sydney were just involved in...
"Destination Clubs" needing to offload decent players for a bag of peanuts to clear cap space...
With 2, possibly 3 players nominating to come to the Crows this trade period, are we now a destination club?

They said the same thing about Thompson for years, he was always classed in the 'not quite A grade bracket'. Then late in his career he finally took it to the next level. Not saying Crouch will be the same, but players can improve. Rather silly to be so definitive about his ceiling after his second season IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I think Matt Crouch is an excellent young player for us and will turn out to be a fantastic inside mid for us but a lot of his touches at the moment are receiving little 15-20m kicks when he could perhaps spread to a more dangerous position. For his age though he is showing all the right signs of becoming a 200+gamer.

No defensive action in Matts game at the moment. 1 way runner and very unaccountable at contests.
Would be the number 1 thing for him to work on for mine.

I think you'll be proven wrong. I have a gut feeling with a few more pre-seasons Matt will be Kennendy-esqe (Syd) - has a similar body shape and playing style - just lacking the years and muscle strength.

Is this deal happening or what? Cooling off period? Sanders are we reaching par by chipping in off the green?:)
Suspiciously quiet this morning, has been reported as being only subject to passing a medical. I refuse to believe it until it is confirmed

I never said he didn't have talent. I have repeatedly stated that I think he will be a good AFL footballer, with a long AFL career. The point is the comparison with Scott Thompson.

Tyson Edwards was a very good AFL player, who had a very successful and lengthy AFL career. However, he was never an elite player. This is the kind of player that I see Matt Crouch developing into.

Scott Thompson, at his peak, was truly elite. He's a multiple B&F winner, AA selection, and finished equal 4th in the Brownlow medal. That's a level above what I believe Crouch to be capable of.

Brad Crouch, on the other hand, I believe could well and truly surpass Thompson - provided he can get his body right and stay injury free for a prolonged period of time.
