Shouldn't we be making an aggressive play for a 2nd tall forward too? Although, given our obsession with investing time/money in really average players we probably think we have our man in the devoid of physicality Josh Jenkins.

Bernie Vince thread.

Port can't afford Dixon nor would they wanna give up another first round pick after not having 1 for 2 years.
I don't think they'd care to be honest. Dixon is a top notch forward and he's only 24. The question would be would who else do they have to get rid of to fit Dixon in and would Gold Coast demand future picks as well as their 1st round selection this year.

They will have to trade Lobbe aswell, make Ryder a full time ruckman.
Not the worst use of Ryder, he's a better ruck than forward. But you'd hope like hell Ryder stays healthy all year, because without Lobbe and Redden likely leaving, they'd be thin as in that department.

Ryder's flaw is he isn't good enough to be a full time ruckman. I think they will just play Dixon as the designated full forward. He is a monster though. I do think Port are edging on too tall now. They have Westhoff, Trengove, Lobbe, Schulz and Ryder. If they get Dixon and get rid of Schulz I am not sure they have solved their problem. I don't think he suits their list needs.

Port are meant to be $700k above the salary cap this year, they need to be below it next year, Dixon has been asking for $700k from Brisbane, GC and Freo. Port will need to make $1.4m space to get him to their club, that's more than Kane Cornes and Schulz.
What needs to be remembered is Port paid over this year because it had been paying under, and the new rules allowed cap money to roll from one year to the next. (I'm not sure the exact wording).

But I'm under the impression that if we didn't spend the extra this year we would lose it. One can only hope the club was smart enough to use it to front load contracts.

[I doubt he's coming to Port though - its just journo piss talk]

interesting if true, makes the ryder trade look like a big mistake, as Dixon fits the bill for hat they need more so, but not sure they'll have the space after getting ryder. is ryder still included in the cap if he suspended for 2 year ?

If he's open to a move to SA, I'd be surprised if we weren't in his ear big time.
I'm sure they'll argue that he's only coming to Port because he wants to play for Hinkley who was an assistant at the Suns when it started, not because he's open to living in SA or anything.

If the rummors are to be believed and we were heavily in Cameron's ear we would have to have a fair bit in the kitty too and could offer what Dixon wants.... probably not the best move for us.... no use having a gun forward line if we've got no outside mids delivering the ball to them.

We don't deliver it to the forwards, we just bomb it onto their heads. Gotta make 'em earn it.

I hope we aren't after Dixon, averages 12 games and 17 goals a year over his career.
