Only way I see we don't match is:

We get compo pick, they get danger
We get their pick 9, they get makay
We get their 2016 first rounder, they get wright.

If the afl and Geelong would sign on that. I wouldn't match .
What you just said is the exact opposite of what I posted.

There is no compo pick coming, there is no utterly fanciful trade involving Mackay, or Wright, anyone else people on this forum want to offload going to Geelong as some kind of bizarre, and thoroughly against the collusion rules, form of charity weight. The only player leaving us for Geelong is Dangerfield. At most, a player may leave for another club - I imagine Geelong would quite like to fold Henderson into this trade as they may not be able to make it happen otherwise - should Geelong need to turn the deal into a three way trade to satisfy all parties, a player like Grigg, Kerridge, or CEY. That's all.

I was replying to talk about not matching, which was bought up by deeztreez which was
David Kings play on Talking Footy tonight in regards to Danger trade interesting...

Crows don't match.
Get compo pic 14
Trade...Crows get Pussies pick 9
Get 1x agrader eg Gregson

Pussies get Danger
Get Crows pick 13
Get 1x cgrader eg. Lyons

So Crows get:
Pick 14 Compo
Pick 9
1x A grade

Crows lose:
Danger
Pick 13
1x C grade

Pussies get:
Danger
Pick 13
1x C grade

Pussies lose:
Pick 9
1x A grade

Although pussies win this, the compo pick is not wasted and a player/pick trade weighted our way goes ahead.
Dunstall argued against the trade side of it and draft fixing but everyone else agreed precedent has been set in past and Afl would sign off on something similar.

Not ideal for Crows but imo this will be similar to how it ends up. If crows match, compo pick 14 is lost.

Make that David Mackay and it might be in the ball park. Lyons is not a C grade talent.

This definitely reminds me of the trade period - when you get one million guesses on what is going to happen, but nothing does. Day after day of "no comment" from the clubs resulting in amazing possible trades in the media.

Then something jumps - a decent trade gets done - and then 3 hours before the end a heap of nothing trades flurry through and everyone is left disappointed !!

There's not going to be a compo pick, it's going to be a straight up and down trade. If Geelong doesn't want to let a player go, then it's going to be a pair of first round picks as the core of the deal, no 1st round downgrades or upgrades, no lumping off players you don't want for fanciful deals that don't meet the test.

All that's happening right now is Geelong trying to find a way out of giving up both of those picks, and/or a player they want to keep, and as Sanders has said bring in a top tier free agent for a wage below market value, for free, having their cake and eating it too. It's not possible for all of those things to happen, and we need to ignore the bleating of the AFLPA until Geelong accepts that, and the real deal can go ahead.
Geelong would have to let a player go to secure a 2nd first round pick

I just cant see who this player would be?

My understanding is that they are unable to trade their 2015 and 2016 first round picks, can anyone confirm?

People who are setting there sights in Bennell should probably adjust there expectation

The strong feeling is that if there is a WA club that shows interest that he will return home to add some family structure to his life

Lyon talked this week about using his Brownlow medalist next year to play more forward to add some much needing scoring power and my reading on this is that this could happen if they add Bennell to their midfield mix.

If a WA club shows interest I just cant see him going anywhere else

Simple equation

We get Geelong's 2015 and 2016 first round selections + Murdock

Deal done
There is a zero percent chance of Geelong agreeing to that deal. Would bet my BF account on it not happening.

I know we'd like it to happen, and I know it still isn't enough value for a player of Dangerfield's ilk, but through no fault of our club, it quite simply isn't going to happen so the sooner people realise this and adjust expectations accordingly, the better.

I'd say the absolute best we can hope for is their 2015 first rounder, plus Murdoch, plus their 2016 SECOND rounder. However, I don't even expect us to get that. I don't think Murdoch will agree to come here a couple of months after signing on for 3 years - it really doesn't make any sense.

I strongly suspect a 3rd club will be involved in this deal, sending either a pick or a player our way. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Murdoch has to want to come, he signed a contract not long ago. Geelong shooting themselves in the foot by publicly ruling out all the players who could potentially be part of this deal.

With Carlton holding firm on Henderson and West Coast likewise playing RFA hardball, the Cats are going to have to suck it up and trade some players to find the capital, or accept they can't get them all.

From July 2015:

IMPROVING Geelong midfielder Jordan Murdoch has become the latest young Cat to recommit to the club, signing a three-year deal.

Murdoch is enjoying the best season of his emerging career and was among Geelong’s best in Saturday night’s disappointing loss to North Melbourne.

“Geelong is my only club, it’s the club I got drafted to, and I absolutely love it here,” the 23-year-old said in a letter to members today

He ain't coming.

Yeah unless Geelong can get Carlton involved in a three way deal with us, they're going to have to give up on getting Henderson, there's no genuine way for them to get him and Dangerfield in the same trade period otherwise. Dangerfield and Selwood is doable, they just won't be able to participate in the first two rounds of the 2015 draft, or the first round in 2016.

This thead is fast becoming another one of not based in reality, bag the club if it doesn't achieve the unrealistic type threads isn't it.
Two first round picks is realistic. Or one first round pick and a quality player is realistic. Not only realistic, but the minimum acceptable. Two first round picks and a quality player isn't.

What about if we send them a slightly inferior player in return which covers the same gap…this would bridge the gap between your 'minimum acceptable' and what you deemed unrealistic.

IN: pick 9, 2016 1st, Murdoch

OUT: Dangerfield, Mackay
