Players aren't going to ask to come to a club without having talked to their future coach about how he sees them fitting into his team, what role he thinks they will play.

We don't have a coach, so no player at any other club has had this talk with our coach, so why would they declare they want to come to our club.

The fact that Curtley Hampton declared he wants to come to our club, without knowing who his coach will be is a massive win for our list management team.

Toumpas apparently off to Port now too. Again we play second fiddle in the market to the Power.

A second rounder in an apparently average draft for a kid with Toumpas' upside is a steal.
Port are losing relevance after a pathetic year so they're leaking any good news stories they can get. Adelaide have been keeping tight lipped on pretty much everything lately so how about we just assume that Jay Clark doesn't know every single trade move that'll happen in a couple of weeks.

We should worry about who we get for our needs rather than who wants to go to Port.

This board needed HRT when Polec went to Port and there have been comments now on Toupas and Dixon going to Port over us.

Don't forget we recruited Betts and I'd say King Eddie is better than that lot put together.

Eddie is a genius and coupled with what Charlie will learn from him this was a recruiting masterstroke.

Or we could just...you know...think hes a spud.
21 year old who played in an SANFL premiership, captained his state in the Nationals and got picked up at pick 4 in a decent draft.

Then got recruited by a dud club with dud development history in another state.

He plays a role we have nothing reasonable in.

And can probably be picked up on the cheap.

So much potential upside in his home city for next to nothing.

I'm sure you could compile a large list of players who after 4 years of doing nothing come out and become highly valuable.

But I'm more confident that there is a long list of those who took 4 years to do nothing, and then continued on doing nothing.

We've traded a few into the AFC from memory.

Yes and I'm sure that's totally how people would be reacting on here if he was coming to us. He absolutely wouldn't be Tambling mk2...

The issue I have with this is as you say his history says he was a gun but then you say we could pick him up cheap now??

If he's a gun or has gun potential he won't come cheap.....and if you say that we could get him on the cheap then he probably isn't such a gun??

Sorry - you don't seem to be mentioning his hip issues anywhere here? You know, the ones that make many people think he could be stuffed?

Sounds like Richard Tambling to me.

He's an inconsistent outside midfielder who has little inside game and goes missing frequently. He's not that good. My one and only "inside" source related to recruiting saw this lad HEAPS as a junior. He didn't rate him highly pre-draft (which surprised me at the time given the wraps on him) and still doesn't. Nothing since then has indicated that this person's call was wrong in any way though.

Discussion around fringe/young player - Adelaide supporter: No, don't want him.
When Port are linked to said fringe/young player - Adelaide supporter: Why doesn't anybody want to play for us?!?!

:(
Classic isnt it.
I swear half of our supporters care more about Port failing than us winning.

And yet they are still able to retain players and attract others. Says a lot doesn't it.
We'll see how they go retaining players when Wines and Wingard start wanting 800k+

All it says is that they didnt make the finals with all the retention and recruitment they could handle.

Toumpas like Polec also grew up supporting Port Adelaide.
Him wanting to come back to SA is an interesting one. He told me personally a year ago he was very excited about the prospect of Goodwin as senior coach. Haven't spoken to him since, but his family has alluded that Paul Roos and the Toump didn't see eye to eye and another year with him was enough to send him home.

I've actually been a fan for a while.

Obviously I would want us to do due diligence on the hip issue and if it falls through on that then so be it.

The main reason I am inclined to give him an opportunity is because of the environment he has come from. An upgrade from Melbourne's development team to Adelaide, or probably any other club, is enough hope for me to consider the risk worth taking.

Tambling came across as a 24/25 year old, he was toast. He didn't come as a 21 year old.
