Depends how highly you rate Lyons. Could you ever see Lyons winning the ANZAC day medal (in a Collingwood side)? The answer is not in a million years for me.
I reckon he'd poll higher in the B&F if both given a full season in their preferred positions though.

Two diff types of players that's for sure.

I find it highly amusing that people here expect players like Andersen, Hampton and Seedsman to just come in and knock players like VB and Mackay straight out of the team. None of these players are in the best 22 for their existing teams, which finished lower than Adelaide - yet people are expecting them to kick a 200 gamer straight out of the team? Talk about ridiculously high expectations.

Don't get me wrong - I hope that they do come in and force their way into the 22. If that's at the expense of VB or Mackay, then so be it (and I would be more than happy to see Mackay demoted back to the SANFL). If they can do that, then it means that the likes of VB will have been forced out by competition for their position, meaning that our team is stronger for their replacement.

All I'm saying is that people need to be at least a little bit realistic when it comes to these players, and the likely changes to our best 22 as a result of their recruitment.
You believe that the above mentioned crows players are walk up best 22 in any of those teams either?

Well VB and Mackay got dropped for debutants in Knight and Atkins this year so it's hardly a stretch. Considering the talent it's more likely than not.

So only one thing that's related to his on-field performances (not going to argue that he comes across as a knob) and that one problem is something that hasn't changed no matter who has taken the kick in. Perhaps the blame shouldn't be directed at the players ;)
My thoughts exactly. Some of our kick ins have been diabolical with Smith in charge and no one would say he's a bad kick. It's not so much the kick just the terrible structure and lack of variety.

What you fail to take into account is the players in their teams playing similar roles. Perhaps they are a level above, but VB and Dmack wouldn't be holding them back if they were in the same team.

You could also explain why the club is spending their off season recruiting them, it's obviously not to play SANFL, so which players would they be replacing?

No.. but I never would have picked Kerridge to kick 5 against North Melbourne, or Lynch to kick 10 against GWS either.
I'm just saying when you compare the two both have done very little but one has won the ANZAC day medal which for me makes him worth more.

Lyons hasn't had a dominant AFL performance like that since 2013 against Collingwood when he kicked 4 goals.

Exactly! VB Mackay and Wright have been given passes by someone somewhere. We need to weed out and expel that someone if we are ever to evolve.

Inb4 'Imagine Sidebottom alongside Sloane and Crouch!' :drunk:
The next 'big fish'!

I assume he's contracted, would cost double what we get for Dangerfield, and his manager will be on Trade Radio announcing a 5yr extension with the Pies tomorrow.

It's hard to be dominant wearing green.

I highly doubt VB, MacKay would get games at Carlton, GWS, turnover merchants, to make the finals carrying these two for the majority of the year is a feat in itself.
VB finished 26th in the B&F only beating players that were subs, he's simply not best 22 in our club, MacKay the same.

Also Matthew Wright played the first 18 games this year too, amazing.. Unbelievable, I can't wait to look for the future.

Seedsman is a better player than Lyons. Has a much higher ceiling.

Not saying Lyons is bad, but he's the type of player that can be replaced easily and a high percentage of players are able to play his role.

I'd love Seedsman for Lyons, but I doubt Collingwood would want another midfielder.
