Still not one serious mention of Troy Menzel possibly leaving Carlton in the press. He's contracted to Carlton next year.

Anyone still think there is something brewing here, or is the 'talk' BS?
There was the article which stated that Carlton were refusing to trade him, and a few days ago somebody posted a comment from one of those chat features with a person at the Herald Sun (who insinuated that he was going to leave). I assume if by the middle of the coming week we don't hear anything, then it's very unlikely. In addition, I suppose it's possible there has been a significant amount of interest from our side but Carlton might be having none of it and subsequently it may have fizzled out.

Would like to see this round 1

F betts jenkins Cameron
Hf lynch walker menzel
C smith Sloane Anderson
Hb Hampton harrigan lever
B brown talia laird
RR Jacobs Thompson b.crouch
Int m.crouch Douglas Henderson knight

Would have put bennell in too but think it's less realistic we will get him.

Edit. Missed knight!
Possibly hendo out for Atkins

Without having to read the last few pages of crap, has there been any recent rumours of news?
7 pm on a Sunday night?

What do you think. I think list managers would have been at the draft combine today and tonight, they would be having one last strategy meeting.

lunch time tomorrow would be the earliest a deal would be done. IMO

Yeah the more I look at this team, the more I love it. Don't forget we'll have whoever we pick at 9 to add in in the next few years, too. The only players we'll really have to replace in the next few years are Betts, Douglas and Thompson, who can be replaced quite easily (with the exception of Betts). Other than that, this is a team destined to contend :)

When people do next years team, why is Henderson still in it??
Hendo is a very good player who carried a back injury this season. He provides lots of run and carry and long kicking which we are screaming out for. Despite his back injury he was near best on ground in our first final and had a solid season.

He is easily in our best 22 and is miles in front of players like VB, Wright and Mackay thats why he is in most peoples team. Happy to help.

Question,

If we end up with two first round picks and keep them

Get Hampton & Seedsman

Would it be as bad as it sounds?
That's a very mixed result for me.

2 first round picks is a fair return for Dangerfield, and I don't think we can realistically expect to get more than that.

On the other hand, we're losing our best player and supposedly looking to contend for the flag from 2017 onwards. Bringing in Hampton, Seedsman, and two raw draftees, isn't going to move us closer to that goal.

For this trade period to be a complete success we need to bring in some players who will make us a materially better team - and players who aren't good enough to be in the best 22 at their existing club don't meet that definition. That's not to say there is no benefit in trading for the likes of Hampton, Seesman and Anderson, but I will be bitterly disappointed if those are the best players we're able to land in this trading period.

Uh huh. That's it. List managers have forgotten about trade week starting tomorrow because of the combine. Furthest thing from their mind.
You'd have no clue about when they meet and what they discuss when.

Probably not quite as good as you make him out to be, but he is definitely a good 'bottom 6' player when on song.

Yeah fair enough. His major problem imo is that he always has a niggle or injury he is battling. Gets no continuity he really needs a full season without missing games to showcase his talents. Unlucky or a little soft is up for debate i guess.

Gotta feeling we will try draft and build a star instead of buying one....

2 first round picks gives good odds!

Lever at pick 14!
IMO will be a future captain and will be a star (upgraded version of Ben hart)

So I back in whatever the club does
Upgraded version of 4 time all australian Ben Hart? Gee, that's a big wrap mate, I hope you're right.

I love reading/talking football but this site doe send you loopy.

I understand some posters are very passionate about Anderson, but I agree that not everyone has to be into him. And yes, I have read the argument x 50 that until you see him play you don't understand how good he is, but considering he hasn't been on the park that often, you can forgive people for not examining archive footage.

However, two points

1. Injuries are bad, a player that gets persistent injurie is called injury prone, and this is not a good thing. Those posters who keep excusing Jed from playing games because he was injured, please stop. Injures do not protect player value. An injured players value is zero on the field, see Shaw. Also injuries detract from player trade value, see Polec, not worth a straight 1st round due to injury history.

2. Also, the game of trading is not to give fair value, Hawks have a great side because they pick up players in the draft for less than they are worth: Gunston. The point of trade is not to slap down your best and fairest offer first up. The point is for him to declare he wants to go to your club and his agent campaigns while AFC offer sweet FU, finally settling on something mediocre, because the opposition club knows that is all they will get. Or at least that's what happens to AFC.

Oh and 3 for good measure, shock horror if Cats are forced to trade some talent to get in some picks to satisfy other clubs they are trying to fleece, some posters need to stop giving them the excuse they don't have currency, it's up to them to get it, by giving something up.
Love your work Flip. Spot on. There is rarely a trade that both sides would consider fair. It's the ultimate trade off between planning for the future with a draft pick that is a virtual unknown and getting a ready-made player for less than their current club thinks is fair.
