I asked ODN the same thing a while ago, and that was the reason the post count was removed. Too many posters were just typing any old thing just to get their post count up.

It is sad that people actually care about how many posts they have, having 10000 posts doesn't get you anything all it shows that you are a sad SOB that doesn't have a life.
