-20 contested possession against a powerhouse midfield of Mitchell,Shiels,Smith,Hartung & Langford

Says it all really

They were the worst contested possession differential team coming into the game, even had like a -50 against the Gold Coast.. and yet we still couldn't even keep it close.

The number of times i saw players jogging along while their direct opponent ran hard and got involved in the play was staggering. Lecras and Darling were prime offenders from my recollection.

Normally I calm down after sleeping on it but I am still ropeable today. When Kennedy calls it quits we are going to fall off a cliff.

Add Wellingham to the list of joggers. He barely got out of 1st gear yesterday.

Who were the inside mids yesterday? Priddis, Shuey, Redden and???
We don't need Inside mids that just jump on the ball that's not a contested ball that ends up in a tackle. We go to the ground way too much other good teams Bulldogs GWS Adelaide try and keep the ball alive by surging a knock on etc etc

Does this mean we cant win the April premiership now?

Im just hopeful that, as a group, they took notice of the wake up call. We arent actually that good that we can coast through the year... any success this year will come on the back of consistent hard work. Which we are capable of.

I hope.

The problem is that as soon as we get back to subi we are superstars all of a sudden and the players and coaches convince themselves it's all sweet again. Our so called intent is fixed etc. next time e play at the G will be a final (if we even make it) in which case we will shit the bed again. Yes we are capable but not at the G. As I posted in the game day thread you could tell the game was over after hawks kicked their second. We have zero self belief. No bad ass attitude, just decent citizens tipified by taking Ven over SPP due to so called better skills and probably better grades at school or some shit. The club needs to know that we won't accept this crap anymore. Losing is acceptable but losing like pussies isn't. How do we get the message to them? I'm happy to rebuild at this point as we can't win at The G = no premierships

That was one of the more disappointing losses but I don't think it's all doom and gloom just yet. We lost because we turned the ball over through bad decision making and ineffective disposal of the footy, too often and when we do that all of the skeletons in the closet come out to play. Some of the disposal errors, often unforced, were just horrendous. Chris Masten killed us and he often does. Just how does this guy keep getting a game? He is a liability.

While he somehow hit beast seagull mode and kicked 4 today, Jack Darling continues to either a)fall over, b)give up due to begging for a free, or c)fall over and beg for a free at the same time. Another that leaves me scratching my head wondering just how in the **** he keeps getting picked. I would like to see him dropped for a month and experiment with a line up that doesn't include him in it. We looked to have much better synergy last week with no Darling.

I also think it's time to experiment with less time on the ball for Priddis. I could honestly take a dump off the side of a hill and it would roll downhill faster than he can move. I don't know what he's towin' but please, can we just lighten his load a bit and relieve him of some on ball time.

At the crossroads now. We've shown we're capable against any team on our day but we lack the resourcefulness and mongrel to grind out wins and compete when teams don't give us space and let us play our own style. We capitulate far too easily, too often. But we're still 3 and 2. Can be turned around. Let's not drop our bundles just yet.

With Darling out last week it forced us to jiggle the line up a bit and I thought it paid off. Would like to see a bit more risk taking at the selection table. We have several guys that have had a heap of opportunities yet they have not been able to consistently perform. Time to make some hard calls.

You realise you guys will beat Freo next week in a cracker of a match.

Doesnt matter. The day that we become the club who takes solace in beating their cross-town rival during a sh*t season may as well be the day where we feel that just making the finals is "good enough". I will turn my back on this club before I see that attitude of failure set in.

I will be f*cken furious if we beat Fremantle next week and the boys celebrate big. After yesterday's effort they should all be disgusted with themselves for a long time to come.

We are playing a horrible brand of football at the moment, and something is wrong with the club. Little things like the playing group dropping their heads too often when a challenge arises, not flying the flag for your teammates, not being visibly angry or upset with a poor onfield performaces, etc. Someone in another thread said that, if a West Coast player was shot onfield, the next guy in line would just step over the body - that is 100% the attitude we are dealing with, and it needs to be sorted out just as much as we need to sort out our midfield issues.

Who were the inside mids yesterday? Priddis, Shuey, Redden and???

These teams only play two max inside mids (Sloane, Crouch for the crows and Ward for the Giants) and they don't have an issue with contested possession. It's more about the outside players being able to play inside and out. Adelaide have introduced Cameron, Hampton and Milera to the mids who can win the hard ball, spread from the contest, chase and tackle. We just have slow inside players who aren't even dominant at winning the footy and slow soft outside players

Robbo sure isn't convinced looks like we are Flat trackers until we win a premiership.....

I'm seeing and hearing so many eagles supporters (even die hard positive one's) say they are starting to lose faith in the club and lose interest in watching the team and are turning on some of the players. Surely through social media and word of mouth this type of feeling/information must get passed onto the eagles heirachy? They don't want to lose their fans if nothing else?

Or does the club just have it's head so deeply in the sand it doesn't see it/feel it? Or they just don't care?

I wonder if all the old timers with memberships respond to the club and say " Why should I pay more for a membership to watch a team I'm losing interest in and will only be witnessing failure?"
You would like to think so but I have no faith in the smug self satisfied Liberal party boys club types who are the eagles hierarchy. The whole club needs a shakeup, starting with the board, CEO and moving onto the football dept.

The sad thing is this clown is right, any heat we cop in the media this week is more than worthy.

Until we can prove the doubters different with actions, we deserve all the crap we get.

Yeh the lack of self belief thing is astounding. Two goals and there were dropped heads, moping around and a 'here we go again' attitude. Theres is noone razzing the boys up and saying come with me lets do something about this. Noone holds their head up, shoulders back and had confidence. Even JK seems embarrased to try kick goals there. Body language is huge to the opposition especially when they know they have something over you historically

First time poster guys. But just curious, do we have a separate game plan for the MCG? It certainly feels that way considering I live in Melbourne and whenever I have the luxury of watching the Eagles live they seem to not have numbers around the ball.

The Eagles players seem to prefer to dance around as their first option, then try to tackle the opposition as the second option. Attempting to collect the ball or tap it on to the advantage of a team mate is almost non existent.

Why do we gift the opposition possession without even trying to take it ourselves? Trust me when I say that this is NOT a speed issue. There are even instances where we are first to the ball but allow the opposition to take it. Sorry but it is frustrating as a Victorian based Eagles supporter to have no faith watching the boys live and be confident of a win...

There is simply no consistency in the way the boys play. I definitely know the boys are capable of winning the ball, I've seen it enough over the past few years with the SAME players in the team. Why not consistently play the way that wins games?

Given tackling/intent seems to be Simpson's KPI, are the boys letting the opposition players take possession so they can lay a tackle to please the coach? Simpson is the one to blame if this is the case.

Nope he is wrong. It's not all stadiums away. It's just the MCG, which leads me to believe it is the coaching.
Yeah totally agree we need to change our game plan considerable for the MCG unfortunately it still doesn't look like Simmo has learnt this. It's not the ground it's intent blah blah it's f#####g both Simmo !!!!!!

Worst thing is we don't get a chance to turn it around with no more MCG games. So we will continue to hear about it for the rest of the year. So prepare for a lot of crap.

Whoever thought it was a great idea to trade our 2015 first round pick for Redden should be held accountable. Now even if we offered our first round pick this year and South Australian Redden (so in effect 2 first round picks) to Port we still won't be able to get SPP who has only played 5 games (some of which were average).

It's inbuilt now and even if they are replaced it will just be like for like.
They make money which is the most important thing for football clubs lol

Many were pretty happy getting Redden, unfortunately he has not produced and it now looks a bad trade.

We are the David Warner of footy, love smashing everyone around in our comfort zone but as soon as we are out of it we look average.

Players we missed due to Redden:

17. Doedee
18. Gresham
19. Burton
20. Fiorini
21. McKay
22. Lovell
23. Cuningham
24. Keays
25. (Dunkley)
26. Collins
27. Tucker

A few good tall defenders that we don't need.
A few mids that haven't done anything.
Gresham probably the best of the lot, but he wouldn't be playing knowing how our MC works.

No on or off field leadership
