Gold coast smashing hawthorn the other week, shows what a team can jump and do, maybe hawthorn jumped up today, and we were unlucky to be playing them at this time. Hawthorn weren't going to play crap every week this year..
Well yes and no. I expected the Hawks to play well and thought we were a good chance to lose (although still tipped us on form) but that doesn't provide an excuse for our lack of intent. The Hawks turned up for sure but we didn't. Losing when we try our guts out and are not good enough, is not a problem. Losing because we lacked intent, is a recurring problem and gets hard to watch. It raises serious questions if the personnel we keep backing in can get us to the level we need to be. I realise we made a GF two years ago but does anyone really think this team is taking us to a GF again? We have some very good players but need to take a hard look at the mix and at certain players that simply aren't damaging enough, often enough/when it counts - and I am not looking at the young players when I say that, they need to be given time and be backed in.

Anyone else listen to Simmo's presser ? Was asked about players coming through in the WAFL he mentioned Jetta Hutchings McKenzie and then said and a couple others who's names escape me. Well **** me how hard is it to remember the young lads running round at training with ya. What chance do they have of getting a game haha!!!

Biggest concern for me was a complete lack of on-field leadership. We were ripped to shreds by letting the Hawks play the way they wanted, and nobody seemed to understand how to deal with that (like every other time we've played them at the 'G). Hurn summed it up by leaving his man in the 3rd, without calling support to guard his own man. Schofield was livid when he got there late. Our defence was an absolute shambles.

Our coaching also needs to be looked at, because there's talent on the field that should have put up more of a fight. Genuinely out coached today.

I'm sick of watching hack kicks into F50 sail to a double-teamed Kennedy, through the hands of Darling, over Lecras' head or just bombed high and extracted with ease by opposition smalls, with none of ours at the fall. Mitchell has already displayed how important quick hands can be in setting up numerous goals for us in the first 3 rounds from the HFF contest. Opposition rebound is such a huge problem on a ground where we can't just line up across HB and expect it to come to a contest; Hawks players were constantly running, making space on the wings and finding targets in acres of space.

The corralling doesn't work anymore, either. May have worked in 2015 at every ground bar the 'G to pressure the opposition to kick down the line to our talls or into a big D50 contest, and we should know by now that the answer to elite disposal and pressing teams like Hawthorn is quick, dangerous ball movement through the centre. In fact, this was the only time we looked threatening against them. Even in 2015 we took far more attacking options, and whilst some of the time you may turn it over and cost a goal, is that really worse than what we experienced today?

Time to change some things, either in team make-up or the way we play. Bar a total turnaround in form ala 2015 I can't see this 22 coming anywhere near a flag, and it's not long before attacking teams like Brisbane and the Saints overrun us.

The free kick was dubious and his intent was exactly what we needed. The commentators talk of "delicate tackles" was just another joke of a call in what was overall a pathetic cheerleading effort for 4 quarters.
It was clumsy at best and looked like a free live to me.

Theres intent yes, but there needs to be solid technique behind it

Has Simmos presser been put up?

"We are disappointed. We tried to force the situation and it got us into trouble." Simpson

"We looked fumbly. From our senior players to our kids. When the pressure was on, we couldn't handle it." Simpson

"I'm not making excuses, but I don't think it's about the ground, it's about intent and consistency." Simpson

We've got bigger problems than playing at the MCG." Simpson (this one stands out)

"We may have lost one or two players. Cripps' ankle is pretty sore, Sheppard, too." Simpson

We need to reflect and review this game before we talk Derby." Simpson

"I thought we lowered our colours in the ruck. We tried to do something different and we need to review it." Simpson

"I don't think the ruck was the reason we got pantsed." Simpson (LACK OF ****ING HEART WOULD BE A START SIMMO)

"Mackenzie, Jetta and Hutchings played well for @EastPerthFC" simpson (OH FFS)

"I went down on the bench in the second half. It looked like we had the intent, but we couldn't handle it." Simpson

"I went down there to see how our players respond to adversity." Simpson ( Couldn't see that from the box? We all saw it from our couches)

"We had periods where we played well, but they broke us in the end." Simpson

"You prepare and get your own intent right. I think the Hawthorn talk was a bit overblown." Simpson on this week's preparation

"It's not all doom and gloom. We've got some work to do there's no doubt about it." Simpson (CANT WIN AT THE GMEANS NO FLAG. BUT IS OK KIDS)

"We've got a Derby this week and we've got to get onto that." Simpson

"It's disappointing, I'm not happy about it, but we've got to respond. We expect more as a club." Simpson (AT SUBI? WE ALWAYS RESPOND)

"I'm sure the members and supporters are as disappointed as we are. They're hurting." Simpson (AND ANGRY. ****ING ANGRY. EXCEPT THE FACEBOOK GROUP. WE LOVE DA EAGS FOREVS)

"We're 3-2 and we've got six days until we play Fremantle." Simpson closes his press conference (BRING ON THE PURPLES. TWO SHIT CLUBS WITH ZERO FUTURE)

No Intensity at all. They look like they have just learned to play when they play at the G. Just cruise around looking lost.

Our ball movement sucks and the G amplifies this. You heard the commentators saying wheel and go wheel and go. We dont do that enough. Do none of our players know the leading patterns in the next link in the play? As each player needs to consider their options to pass and it makes us so slow and never breaks open the defence. We try pin point passing all the way for that to breakdown and result in a bomb to 2 on 1.

Leadership non existent and Hurn looks like a tired captain trying to overcome these emotional scars that run so deep they are visible.

To top it off, just need the club this week to follow up that earlier email about whether we are prepared to pay more for membership at the new stadium.

Mind you win the derby and all will be forgiven until our next MCG embarrassment.

Just got off the plane - was in flight during the game - and was shocked to see the scoreline. WTF...... Can't believe that! I was sure we would get the job done.
Back to the drawing board.
I will have to read back through the game day thread to see what went wrong here.

Sucks!

Yes. Go the Falcons/Cardies. Some things have to be enduring or where would we be.
I'm rambling. A mixture of despair and alcohol.
You know what Seadog, I 'ken hate the sparrows from Joondalup, but I 'ken respect them because they come out and fight every 'ken year. :thumbsu:

The eagles need to learn something from this. ;)

Let me just say i love this club with everything i have and i will ALWAYS stick by them through thick and thin.....however i've been waiting for such a thread to appear.

I didn't want to jump on here over the last few weeks and spread my displeasure, firstly because i couldn't be bothered, secondly because i didn't want to hear some glass half full optimistic bull shit.

Luckily for me i'm all liquored up and i never drink...... that's what this club have turned me to.

So get ready for a meltdown to compare all meltdowns to from here on out.

Firstly our 3-1 record to date has been nothing but an illusion for all delusional sycophants to cling to, it's still 4 points isn't always the comfort blanket some would attest to.

If North had kicked straight in the first quarter of round one i am rather confident in saying we would have found ourselves in a hole we would not have been able to climb out of.

If we take four quarters to beat St Kilda at home without Nick Riewoldt then alarm bells should have been going off but still we carry on 2-0

Making Richmond look good, wet weather or not is incredibly hard to do and yet we made it look rather elementary. Thanks for that West Coast, the wank fest in the media about Richmond since has been awesome, especially living in Melbourne.

Round four we only just manage to beat Sydney, considering they were missing 5-6 starting 22, started their pre season a month later than most, had Buddy on one leg, had more debutantes and rookies playing in one game than we roll out over a four year period and we only just get over the line playing at home was it any wonder we would play Hawks into form today?

We have been deplorable the whole year to date, if anyone can describe to me exactly what our game plan/style is i would love to know because i can't deduce a ****ing thing from this train wreck.

We're slow, have too many players that refuse to run both ways, can't execute the simplest of handballs, turn the ball over on a regular basis in the midfield and more often than not without a modicum of pressure, can't deliver the ball into the forward 50.

I swear we must have the thickest lot of footballers going around today. This lot love to handball to players about to be tackled and outnumbered like they're accumulating frequent flyer points for doing so. Don't get me started on going to ground, they all love to jump on a pack like an oiled up wrestler. Our favourite play is hold the ball for too long, then kick it to a wing and hope it gets knocked over the line, thus making it someone else's problem. We couldn't lay a tackle and stick it if they're hands were covered with super glue and our opposition were witches hats.

This pack of hipster players have no heart, no grunt and no desire to take the game on. It's like watching musical chairs. Get rid of the pill as soon as we can and make it someone else's problem. No accountability whatsoever.

I preached last year that Simpson is a dud and the genius was Pyke. Watching Simpson scurry down to the bench during the third quarter, as if that was going to make a shred of difference was enlightening. Does Simpson realize that changing Plan A to Plan Ab makes no difference regardless of where he sits?. Shit, he could have been sending directions from North Korea and it would have been communicated with as much clarity as his efforts today.

We are lost, our list is is in serious trouble and as others have pointed out we refuse to blood any young talent and instead prefer to let them linger at East Perth until we de-list them 7 years later.

Weak from the head down our club has become, we were once strong and proactive now we are nothing but reactive. The quintessential boys club.

Hard calls need to be made but as long as we turn a profit we couldn't give a shit. There is a saying in the NBA, some clubs will do anything and everything to become and remain a contender whilst others are content to fill the stadium and make a buck.

Nisbett is the Jerry Reisndorf of the AFL and we are the Chicago Bulls.

For once i would like to see a strong statement made but that's not to happen.

It's a shame that Jetta wasn't playing, it's going to make the token changes all that much harder for the match committee this week.

Still there are a few positives.

I won't have to read a retort from Bond as i doubt he would come in here. Many have made some legitimate points about our list and lack to blood players and our selection process over the last 5 years.Whilst at times i appreciate his insight I swear that bloke reminds me of the Information minister of Iraq during the last skirmish. That bloke wouldn't take a backwards step if molten lava was cascading down the mountain side towards him.

Now if you all will excuse me i have a bag of Doritos supreme cheese and half a bottle of wild turkey that require my immediate attention. Whilst i am concerned about the mix and subsequent ramifications i face tomorrow i feel somewhat at ease knowing it pales in comparison to our mob presently and that i won't have to stomach that particular mix for another week.

End rant.

Ok, better get the usual stuff to melt about out of the way:
* Sack Simmo (Moose1414 will provide a 500 word essay on why).
* Drop Masten, LeCras, Redden, Sheed, Priddis, JK, Butler, Nelson e.g. to the WAFL and replace them with youth who certainly aren't ready.
* Take the captaincy away from Shannon Hurn.
* Sack the entire coaching and recruitment stuff for this loss.
* We won't win the premiership, are too soft, won't make the top 8 e.g.
* Pessimstic attitude for the next decade.
* Ask ndot to pick our next coach.

That should be about it, now to the real stuff.

******* Hawthorn always getting favoured by those campaigners for umpires, ****ity **** ****.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to smashing Freo next week, hopefully it'll be a good game.

If I was going to do it I'd do a lot better than 500 words but I'd just be repeating myself. I had my melts a year ago when it was actually relevant, damage is done now. Thanks for the shout out though I'm finding it hard to motivate myself to post anymore.

No-one likes to see a bloke struggling so much in his job he has to be sacked, the media is starting to turn on Simpson now and once that blood gets in the water its gets ugly and I'll probably end up doing a 180 and defending the poor bloke. My genuine hope for Simpson is he's got a mate out there who maybe puts in a call this week and says something along the lines of this: "2 years from now do you really want to be just another failed coach lost to AFL footy? Do you think when push comes to shove the board is going to stand by you the way you stood by your under performing players all these years? They won't. Its a tough business. If you're not making the tough decisions on peoples futures that are necessary then pretty soon someone's going to be making those decisions about your future. You're not going to look back at a career after it goes bad and say "well at least I had all those blokes backs and was popular with the playing group." You'll be saying "Why the **** didn't I just drop those useless campaigners so they couldn't disgrace the jumper and embarrass me out of a job"

Ironically Clarkson's probably the only mentor Simpsons got who could or would say it. Carey gave it a shot during the week I think through the media but didn't hit the mark by the looks.

I actually don't care about who's playing or who's coaching or if we are winning or losing, I just want to see people held accountable for their performance. Nothing is shitter than supporting a club thats completely stagnant like this, you adapt or you die. Just sad to watch really. Sport is entertainment and entertainment is built around new stories. Hence I'll repeat my take away from today. Loved Nelsons game. Enjoying Barrass as well. 400 words is all I got. Bring on the derby.

For me it highlighted just how much we do not play for each other. When Burgoyne gave Barrass a rib tickler and got 50, whilst there was not much in it. Not one player made an effort to remonstrate with Burgoyne, now i'm not saying go in there crazy and reverse the kick, but at least come and and at least say something to him.

We truly are a bunch of front runners, who don't like getting dirty. At least we all know we don't have to worry about trying to get GF tickets this year, saving some pennies :)

Our new training facility will have two grounds.. one the same size as the G. I don't think it's the shape. I just think it's mental which in itself is kinda mental lol.

Can only laugh about it now really and cop the shit that performance deserves.

With respect, I think the width of the MCG is a problem. It makes it a lot harder to corral and stop the switch

Only thing I liked from Simmo's post game presser was that he confirmed they are trying new things in regards to flexibility (i.e - Giles dropped, extra runner and Gov and JD as support for Vardy). Rest of it was the usual Iraqi information minister stuff.

Worsfold, Cousins, Judd, Glass, Hurn.

Pick the odd one out. His captaincy exemplifies our playing style. Not enough heart.
And it really does some up our teams lack of mental toughness because when I try to think of a player that would do a better job than Hurn I pretty much come up blank. Shuey is the only one that even comes into the equation.

Reality we need guys who can stand up when the heat goes on not just play zones and guard space see football get football pretty simple game, We looked scared to be honest and couldn't regain any momentum. If that doesn't change get we are going to be whipping away for the finish line without getting the chocolates.

Ha ha ha, sorry ThePuma #9 you have rolled from a Bulls capitulation to this, haven't you? My son, not sure how, is a Bulls fan and has been venting since yesterday morning and now he is going on about the eagles too. :p

Seeing our list's age profile, and lack of premiership has made me quietly fearful the past few months.
Now that we've more or less accepted that we're not contenders, I'm excited for the opportunities our young blokes will get.

Remember that feeling we all had in 2014 when Gov started getting games?

I'm ready for that feeling again.

The sad thing is how predictable and expected this was. If only i didnt have the balls of a west coast eagles player i woulda dropped 5k on a $3.10 certainty.

We are just going to get the same old tripe message. Public condemnation from coaches is required and an enough is enough final straw message.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me five times well ur just a ****en mongo for putting up with it and you are being made to look like a peanut.

And that sums up exactly where we are right now.

I work with a guy in his 50's who knows his football and is a big Eagles fan. He went and dropped $200 on the Hawks 45 points +.

This result was no surprise really. I even said if any side was going to play the Hawks into form its the Eagles at the MCG.

So what does this mean and what are the coaches and selection committee going to do about it?

I just hope that today was the last straw with aspects of the game plan and also with some players. Time to infuse some youth and enthusiasm, especially speed and defensive contested mindset.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

The gift that keeps on giving all year round. If it's any consolation i knew we sucked (Bulls) when we said we needed youth and speed and went and signed Rondo and Wade. Both teams have taught me a valuable lesson this past year.

If walks like a pig and oinks like a pig, then it's a pig.

Oink.

What if they don't blood those kids Jootube ?

Things could be worse he could be a Washington Redskins fan to make matters really diabolic. ;)
