Squibs like Darling and Redden should be shown footage of him circa 2001 when we were getting spanked every week, he had more heart than anyone I've ever seen. I would bring him back to the club after his stint and teach a thing or two about work rate and courage.
Darling is the one of the softest players in the squad -and he's just been signed up for four years. You have to have serious doubts about who is running this club.
One of the coaches needs to grab Darling by the throat and shake the living crap out of this pea hearted down hill skier.
A disgrace to the jumper

The gift that keeps on giving all year round. If it's any consolation i knew we sucked (Bulls) when we said we needed youth and speed and went and signed Rondo and Wade. Both teams have taught me a valuable lesson this past year.

If walks like a pig and oinks like a pig, then it's a pig.

Oink.
If it's any consolation Puma, my 16 yo son said exactly the same thing about Rondo and Wade. The other silver lining I can give you, is that there is a bottom of the pit experience you have as an employer, like I had a few years ago, and suddenly everything is crystalised in your mind. You then start calling that pig a pig and get it out of your sty. That's the way it needs to be as a head coach as well. There becomes a point where the club wants results and the decisions are made to reflect that. ;) Or they should be.

Things could be worse he could be a Washington Redskins fan to make matters really diabolic. ;)
Ha Ha, at least I can reflect back to the dirty hogs days. The poor kid can't. :(

Anyone else think Duggan could be a complete dud? my ring clenches at the thought
duggo spent a lot of the game hanging off the contest corridor side alone today and failed to impact . Hawks used their spare to DP kennedy .
We didn't get much of a pay off with our spare today

Seeing our list's age profile, and lack of premiership has made me quietly fearful the past few months.
Now that we've more or less accepted that we're not contenders, I'm excited for the opportunities our young blokes will get.

Remember that feeling we all had in 2014 when Gov started getting games?

I'm ready for that feeling again.

Hopefully Priddis will do the honorable thing like Darren Glass did and make way for a youngster during the season if his form continues to regress. The game seems to have passed him by now and he is no longer a one touch player.

So simpson got a question on how many times we turned it over early coming inside and he somewhat agreed saying perhaps we tried too much.

Hell no simmo wtf. It was the right option our skills were just pooo! How else do we expect to score when we simply revert to long balls down the boundary to outnumbered contests. Disturbing to hear this from him

If the team was Japanese I would expect them to walk into the ocean at City Beach as usual after the game, and keep walking. Effort today was unacceptable and some have to be held responsible. We are shit.

Its a mental issue that's got out of control. I don't know how you fix it to be honest.

When JK misses his first shot and later sprays one from 30 out directly in front you know its not a talent thing. When Darling works well to get four goals but stuffs up his only set shot from 15 you know its not a talent thing.

In interviews last week, both Simpson and Mitchell were saying how great the Hawks are and that it is only a matter of time before they become great again. Not sure whether this kind of talk about the opposition leading up to the game is good to help boost the confidence of the players who usually struggle to fight back when the going gets tough away from home.

Read recently that in 1975/76, the pace of Lillee and Thomson affected Viv Richards so much that he had to be lowered in the batting order due to vomiting caused by upset stomach nerves - he consulted a psychologist in Sydney thereafter and end up scoring 1710 runs in 19 innings in 11 tests which set the record for most runs in a calendar year (1976).

Perhaps the club should hire a sports psychologist to talk to the players and may be to the coaching staff as well.

And that sums up exactly where we are right now.

I work with a guy in his 50's who knows his football and is a big Eagles fan. He went and dropped $200 on the Hawks 45 points +.

This result was no surprise really. I even said if any side was going to play the Hawks into form its the Eagles at the MCG.

So what does this mean and what are the coaches and selection committee going to do about it?

I just hope that today was the last straw with aspects of the game plan and also with some players. Time to infuse some youth and enthusiasm, especially speed and defensive contested mindset.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

Here's my wife's facebook post from 6 hours ago - never played the game, but has watched the Eagles since 1987 and has watched local footy all her life. The writing was on the wall, and we can't understand how the commentators and media were all backing us:

I have an awful feeling we're going to run the poos and wees into a rich vein of form, but I hope I'm wrong. Go Eagles!

Like others here, we should have dropped $1K on the Hawks at 45+. Would have made our spending money account for our holiday this year a whole lot better!

Wake up mate. Did you not watch the game today?

We tried McGovern forward and in the ruck. That's not plan A.

We only played one ruck and an extra mid in Sheed. Not plan A.

We swung Yeo on the ball and forward, not plan A.

Simo is trying different positional moves but the team defensive game plan isn't changing and it needs to. We don't apply enough pressure without the ball. Hawks showed us how to do that today.

The game plan is too unaccountable for my liking. Too soft and only works against teams lower than top 6/7. We need to change and that means personnel changes as well, tough ones.
Good call.
I stand corrected as I agreed with the post your referring too.

So I guess we all agree in this thread, we need some dirty hogs! Who is going to help us in that respect? I thought Mitchell might and I was certainly a very big proponent of doing whatever it took to get Dustin Martin a few years ago, when the opportunity presented itself. Anyone else posters' have in their mind that would help?

As much as it hurts to say, our soft underbelly continues... U dont have to be a physically strong player but when things like Barrass getting belted in a cheap shot and flying the flag or going hard when its ur turn- IS AN ATTITUDE. Im not enough of a guru to know how to turn that on w a player only an expectation for a coach and/ or leadership to make it a non-negotiable.
Players- Soooo many times, a player stuffed up or got caught, not a major problem in isolation, only to completely drop their head and not go again or provide confident run.
Top teams have attitude/ swagger whatever the occasion (unsociable hawks?). No us with these players

Was the right option going inside, however there need to be more players running through there. If one player fumbles it shouldn't always mean play has broken down, where is the support from that players team mates to bail him out of the situation?

Anyone else listen to Simmo's presser ? Was asked about players coming through in the WAFL he mentioned Jetta Hutchings McKenzie and then said and a couple others who's names escape me. Well **** me how hard is it to remember the young lads running round at training with ya. What chance do they have of getting a game haha!!!
Says a lot about the coach. Maybe he don't give a shit..... like half the team?

He's not an option to trade for but I'd kill for a Mitch Robinson campaigner in the midfield.

For me it highlighted just how much we do not play for each other. When Burgoyne gave Barrass a rib tickler and got 50, whilst there was not much in it. Not one player made an effort to remonstrate with Burgoyne, now i'm not saying go in there crazy and reverse the kick, but at least come and and at least say something to him.

We truly are a bunch of front runners, who don't like getting dirty. At least we all know we don't have to worry about trying to get GF tickets this year, saving some pennies :)
We have been soft like that for a long time, there was a period under woosh where that was the norm. You could shoot a player and the other players would just step over the body.
No heart, no team.

Excuse the intrusion. Took my mum who is a fanatical Eagles supporter to the game today. She wasn't confident before the game but i thought you guys would win even with the poor MCG record.

Within the first 5 mins the alarm bells were ringing. The Hawks who are slower than Good Friday were running harder into space and to the contest. Eagles game plan - well i don't know what it was? Kennedy was being double /triple manned but yet their was no Hill - Cripps or Le Cras to get the crumbs. Also Kennedy should have been moved to CHF so he could lead to the wings and give them a target. He was wasted at Full forward and by the time it got down there he had no chance. Darling might have kicked four goals but he goes to ground far to easy.

Priddis looked way off it today. Dinky little kicks and handballs that did nothing and he is no speedster. As for Redden he is playing the way he did at my team the Lions in his first two years and we all thought he would be good. Hasn't improved one iota. Never takes a risk with disposal.

Agree with a few sentiments in here with regards to Simpson. He needs to change things up and if he doesn't then he will be out of a job sooner enough.

Eagles are my second side so it sucked sitting there tonight listening to those arrogant hawks supporters gobbing off.

I think my mum will be more disappointed on the flight home than the players!

We are a nice family friendly club and being nasty would be socially irresponsible.

**** me. Jetta. **** me sideways.
We are pathetic, he will just make us more pathetic.

**** me.
