You know just because of a good innings against Kenya doesn't mean his shit innings during the summer are any less shit? He's certainly got back to where he needs to be but the people who got into him during the Aus summer had every right to, he was shit... just like White is now.

Always find it funny when someone who has been copping it on here produces a good innings after a ton of failures all of a sudden supporters of said player think he has 'shown' those who doubted him. Perhaps being dropped would of kicked him back to this form quicker. Good to see him making runs and quickly too. Now if only Ponting, Smith and White can join in!

Yeah I'm pretty sure he was in good form for the last few games of the series against England and all WC matches to date.

There are too many posters here who conveniently just forget his 50+ scores and pretend that he's in this huge form slump.

in 29 matches (28 innings) since the start of 2010 Clarkes averaged 55, strike rate of about 81.5 with a ton and 9 50's. That includes the small one day cricket slump during the first half of the ODI series vs England. That's a pretty reasonable record tbh.

Clarke had a (very poorly timed) slump from mid-2010 to January, following 3 and a half years of class in test cricket. This was enough to see him become a pariah (and the likes of Cam White and Aaron Finch as being better candidates for the side, lol). Unfortunately it's hard to retain consistent class over sustained periods, there are always little form slumps along the way (look at Tendulker, people thought he was done and he came roaring back, Waugh had times of poor form, Ponting, Lara etc, not the Clarke is in their class but he's a good batsmen).

Remains to be seen how he goes in his next test matches, but the over-reaction to an admittedly poor run of form (especially when considering how long the likes of M Hussey and previously players like Hayden, even Ponting have been carried) was amusing.
Not to mention that Clarkes captaincy>Pontings captaincy

Not sure why you quoted me? I never said his best wasn't worthy a spot in the team, just that he had a poor Aus summer. Like Ponting who you claim to be 'carried' he was actually one of the form ODI players going into the summer, I never disputed that.. I was just pointing out that a good innings doesn't make bad ones any better!

It's the mentality in Australian cricket of leaving good players in the side until they find form that has us struggling in my opinion. Ponting and Clarke have been dropped before and came back a lot better in Ponting's case... I just don't see why we have become so precious about not dropping out of form players? I think Hayden and Hussey should of been dropped earlier and with Ponting while his numbers have dipped he has not been our worst up until the latest Ashes, hes just a failure to convert starts into 100's(such as in India).

The issue lies in the fact that Ponting and Clarke are so far above the next tier of players there is no guarantee the replacements would do better, apart from....

I may have been wrong about Clarke's ODI credentials against inferior attacks.

Still miss the Ashes though :(

I vomited a little. And I think Sachin did too.
