Gold's best is AA and he's about having a career best season to this point

I would love to know what the game plan was for the first 3 Q’s. Our ball use was sh!thouse. Especially going inside 50.
we seemed to want to hang onto the ball for a lot longer and then bomb it aimlessly. Those 2 things don’t go together.
Kicking to BBB was shocking, but he doesn’t seem to do himself any favours at the minute.

Papely has more chance of being the AA Ruckman than Goldy.

Gawn and Grundy could sit on the ground and scratch their arse and the media would still fawn over them and put them in front of him.

I was watching the GWS game and there was a young kid they pointed out who several times who lowered his eyes and didn’t go straight to Cameron, to get another lead and shot at goal

Meanwhile we go long bombs to Ben

Xerri at least showed a bit of fire. Had a go. Not sure Durdin has that and McKay I am completely unconvinced about. Larkey is a giant loss. Disposal into the forward line was laughably bad. BBB gets knocked off his line far too easily. JZ was appalling with his disposal and his being out is currently a bonus.
 
On reflection, I hate to single out one player, but I would go as far to say that the loss could pretty much be attributed to how shitful Ziebell was.

As soon as he goes off we look a different side. That’s twice now, a pattern is emerging that our Captain is a liability.

I did watch the footage and all I saw was a ruckman being played out of position. You were as critical as anyone over our pre-season. Yes he took some contested marks, but structurally we looked horrible. Again he is a RUCKMAN not a forward.
A McEvoy/Xerri comparison is completely irrelevant. Some ruckman have more versatility than others. Some ruckman with experience are capable of covering other positions. A 22 year old McEvoy would not be playing CHB.
Preuss showed great signs for us in the pre-season also. How did that work out for us and Melbourne?
If by some chance Xerri proved at VFL level he was a capable forward, then by all means give him a shot. He has never done that, so until then let’s play an actual forward.

There is no one. Wood plays like he sleeps with the light on and Larkey is injured. Comben has been injured and wouldn’t be ready yet, so who do you put in place of Xerri?

We need another tall option and he is it for now.

If you watch the game he actually presented quite well, he just didn’t clunk his marks. But the big positive was he provided a contest and brought the ball to ground. If only Brown did the same, then we might be talking about a lucky escape.

It happened in 2 of the preseason games too.
The elephant in the room continues to grow.

Is it wrong of me to be glad that the elephant has been hobbled?

He has become so obsessed with using himself as a battering ram that he has forgot to actually play football.

When he focuses on the footy he has played his best footy, he has brought into the hype of being a physical presence at the detriment to the rest of his game.

Regardless of the result I would have the same opinion. I have been critical of bringing in Xerri each week, with a lot of people wanting him in. It just doesn’t work structurally in my view to play a ruckman as a permanent forward.

I would have stuck with wood or given Hosie a shot. Hosie has shown bucket loads more as a forward at second level than Xerri. I would have even preferred McKay be given a go.

Based on tonight I would drop Brown in favour of Xerri. At least Xerri competed. Brown was a useless as **** on a bull tonight.
